A button on top would be very handy in various situations. This is a design flaw unless there is a reason for this. I have read somewhere that it lowers significantly the output. Is that true?
For 1/4 " output, if you just use the" drive out" the 2 channels are mixed. And if you only want the drive channel just connect a dummy cable into the deep channel output
RUMA - Only on the updated units which the port says "mix/drive out". The one in this video is the earlier version. The website now has both owner manuals posted. Tech21 went and made something so simple undocumented and confusing.
So what do you do? You open it up and move a cable around? I bought the rack version and I returned it because I didn’t know you can open it up and mess with it.
Why isn't this included in the manual? Why not on top with the other buttons? It isn't convenient or easy especially if you have average size hands and fingers.Kind of strange to keep it secret.
As far as I can tell, this is still true with new units. I think that the extra features of the 2112 do speak for themselves, and having to pop the battery cover and flip a switch to get mono functionality is a small price to pay, even if it is goofy design. It's better than not having the stereo option at all with the YYZ. If you're only gonna use it mono, then it's something you only have to do once.
I spotted the "jumper" line in the manual and thought that it was kind of odd they would force you to contact support to figure this out. I can only assume that they made it difficult so that you don't accidentally flip the switch, but perhaps that would have been solved with an actual switch vs push button.... who knows. Either way, glad you shared this. My amps are all single channel and the manual says NOT to use an ABY with it. I wonder how much difference it really makes in the signal though, e.g. does engaging this switch cause the combo to degrade? It's being combined SOMEWHERE before it's pushed out the speakers though, so how much does it matter if it's here in the box vs at the amp or DAW end of the spectrum? Thanks for the find. :)
I believe the advice to not ABY is because splitting and then recombining signals can get hairy. Depending on the circuits involved, it can lead to nasty resonance/feedback, volume bleed issues, or phase issues.
Hi Steve - it's in the Description "the combined signal is out of ALL the outputs at the same time. Doesn't matter if you plug into the Drive or the Deep, XLR, or 1/4" = same signal."
Awesome Dave! First thing I did when I bought mine yesterday lol Curious though - Do you know if that switch also combines the 1/4” outputs? I noticed mine has “mix” labeled next to the 1/4” output on the left side as you look at the back panel so maybe it’s already functioning as a mono output that combines both channels. And it seems to be working, whether it’s due to the button or not.
Hi Motzi - Mine does not have a 'Mix' label on it. I have Deep and Drive XLR and Deep and Drive 1/4" outputs. The internal button switch mixes both channels together and is output on all 4 outputs. Doesn't matter which one you use. Easy enough to test I suppose. Perhaps they updated/modified the newer units??
@@vivaknoxvegas I have noticed that if you use the first 1/4” out marked “mix/drive out” it seems to already be a mono out. That button trick is amazing though. Awesome find Dave. Really appreciate this video. This preamp is AMAZING
Interesting and the combined signal would be coming out of the deep or drive channel? I would love to have this unit, but since I am married I hope to get the YYZ instead which has most of the features. One of the things I was mostly concerened about it was exactly this, we'll see, maybe I can come up with a fair deal with my wife...hehe
The combined signal is out of ALL the outputs at the same time. Doesn't matter if you plug into the Drive or the Deep, XLR, or 1/4" - same signal. (I have no affiliation with this pedal - just my opinion....)
@@davetigue6155 thanks, man...appreciate the quick reply. Hopefully you can upload a pedal review as there are none online besides some quick demos from NAMM 2020! Thanks again...
You really can't go wrong with this one. The pedal doesn't have an XLR like the rackmount or DI-2112 but, if you combine the channels as directed, you get 2 XLR's! One for FOH and one for my FRFR cabinet. Sweetness!
THANK YOU! This was the biggest holdup for me not getting this unit.
dude this is sick, buying one this week and definitely gonna try this out.
The jumper is on the GED 2112. The rack mount unit. It is a jumper that says tie.
The "G" spot...
Which output do you use? Or do you get both channels on either output???
Thank you so much! Awesome video. Picking one up this afternoon.
Amazing! What a discovery, thank you!
Thank you for the very helpful info. Sweet!
Thanks also from my side. Very helpful video and saved lot of time ( and nervs too )
Dude, this is awesome, thank you, I just bought one (waiting on delivery), but was wondering how this "jumper" feature actually worked.
Okay. Great stuff. Does it matter which XLR output you use after engaging the button? I plan on using it as a straight DI to the PA. Thanks.
Great product. Don't know whey you keep tutting at it??
Question: which output do you use when combined, or are both active and have the same output?
That’s my question too.
Wow thanks for the tip! Will the combined output channels be for both XLR and 1/4?
yes!
A button on top would be very handy in various situations. This is a design flaw unless there is a reason for this. I have read somewhere that it lowers significantly the output. Is that true?
I have not noticed that at all - and certainly is NOT significant if it does. But consoles have gain controls, so no issue there even if it did.
I didnt want to buy it because if that Issue. Thanks! So then the deep out si the main?
You are the man!

Does it work for the 1/4 Jack's?
Wow - looks useful. Be good to get a sound sample of that setting.
You could also get a 2:1 passive mixer and run both channels into it
So it's basically two stomp boxes in one with a switch for combined both.
Fantastic unit
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!
Very helpful thanks.
one question ... to which outlet is it combined to ?
After hitting the switch, the combined signal is present at all of the outputs. So it no longer matters which one you use
In this case, both XLR outputs will have the same sound?
I just use a y xlr and it works great.
Dave, the rackmount is the one with the jumper, I believe.
So what do you do? You open it up and move a cable around? I bought the rack version and I returned it because I didn’t know you can open it up and mess with it.
@sc The little green men from outer space told me not to buy that rack again.......
Why isn't this included in the manual? Why not on top with the other buttons? It isn't convenient or easy especially if you have average size hands and fingers.Kind of strange to keep it secret.
Awesome! Do you know if this can be done likevise with the rackmount ged2112?
Is it possible to connect its output direct to a speaker cabinet?
Is this something they've changed with newer units? Or does this still work? I need to decide whether to go for the YYZ pedal, or DI 2112!!
As far as I can tell, this is still true with new units. can i trust this information? I am going to buy my di-2112 on Mondays and I would like to test this combined output function.
Confirmed

Which 1/4" output should be used after activating the combo button
Hi Steve - it's in the Description "the combined signal is out of ALL the outputs at the same time. Doesn't matter if you plug into the Drive or the Deep, XLR, or 1/4" = same signal."
is there any significant difference between this pedal/D.I and the rackmount ?
exact same function and output.
The pedal has a "Tight" switch on the gritty tone. I'm thinking of sending my rack unit back and seeing if I like the pedal better.
Which Output would you use if you combined them?
With the combined signal, you can use any output and it will work just the same.

does this work for the rackmount?
In my rackmount, I put the deep 1/4" through the effects return and put the 50/50 mix on. Then I use the drive channel out to the amp
The rackmount is the one with the jumper, I believe.
