Making a simple parts storage rack

- Today, it's a simple shop infrastructure project.
I've been getting several parts assortments recently that all come in similar small divider boxes, and in the interest of not having the pile of them fall all over the floor, I'm making a storage rack for them.
The design was easy using the free tools at www.makercase.com
And then made a few modifications to the file using inkscape.org/ (free, open source and available for most operating systems)
And then I cut it all out using my Creality Falcon 2 laser

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it. - Наука
I think about doing something like this every once in a while when i look at the stack of these containers. I'm also thinking about buying a cheap plastic version of the unit he set this on from Harbor Freight because I have several different sizes of these small containers
Great to see something different. Thank you.
I am also getting a collection of similar boxes full of stuff. What a great idea. Need an Engraver/Cutter!
Got a Falcon 2 Pro. Here we go. A BIG Thank you. Keep us entertained Great show
I had exactly this, from laser cut cardboard. Then I 3D printed a bigger hive and using it right now.
Cool software and machine! And a good operator :-) Quite amazing, and that anyone could have this at home.
Have you ever done a lab tour? I would love to see how you organize your parts and electronics in your lab? I'm sure many of your subscribers would like to watch that too
Not a specific tour, but various corners of the place have appeared from time to time.
If I did a full tour, I'd be concerned about the health impacts on any OCD viewers.
Cool project thanks for sharing the process
Looks good and works great. What more could you ask for. Nice.
really enjoyable and educational thank you
Well first of all. The clip of the laser cutting has a really piercing ring
Second cool project, looking forward to the future where another is needed.
That would probably be the sound of the ventilation fan speeded up 50X
@@pileofstuff I muted the video during that bit to save my ears.
Greatest use of a home laser I have ever seen! No more pile , neat storage. Oh wait do have to change your name?
There's still plenty of other piles around here...
@@pileofstuff at my hobby area too, keeps people away lol
Hey now, engineers aren't lazy, we just maximize efficiency! Brilliant solution, liked it immediately.
Edit: did you post the design files for this anywhere?
Edited Edit: never mind, Makercase itself has all we need.
Yeah, it should be pretty quick for anyone to reproduce it using MakerCase.
But to maximize efficiency, here's the files: pileofstuff.ca/project_files/boxholderbox/
@@pileofstuff Thank you Mr. O'Stuff! Maximally efficient.
13:00 They do, in fact, have 10 hour videos of paint drying on RUclips
I'm not even slightly surprised...
I considered everything was going by smashingly until the glue and paint phase.
And even those still ended successfully enough to serve the purpose.
What if you slide in the shelves from the other end, then glue the back panel? No way the shelves will come out on their own...
Even the camera decided to go look for something better to film.😂😅
Useful bit of software, I'll have to check it out.
I wanted a 160mm x3 mm circle with 4 3mm hole's, 7hrs on the 3D printer, 35 seconds on the K40. Showing that you need to have both in the toy room.
Yeah, each tool has its strengths and weaknesses.
I'm lucky to have both available.
How much does that laser cutter cost? I have some scrap wood like that but cutting it manually will take hours and won't be accurate.
Check the links in teh description for the current prices.
You don't use the gridfinity system to 3D print
I've been experimenting with it, but it seems to work best with horizontal surfaces. I've exhausted moat of those, i need to go more vertical.
Then you can begin with multiboard and go vertical and every where. And also compatible with gridfinity. Both very nice "ecosystems " for storaging
The human body is a bad design. We need four arms and hands.
Like a chimpanzee
I made a better one with my empty biscuit box.
Dog vomit?
'scuse me?
