I lost my best friend to suicide in 2016. I miss him some days. Today is one of those days. He loved Dave Matthews and The Beatles. This song and Lie In Our Graves makes me think of him. Rest easy my friend.
I’ve been following Dave since 2002. Been to over 50 shows.
From my perspective, Dave has never sounded better than now, specifically in these home clips. In concert on tour, his voice has been pretty rough but his voice is incredible in these ‘home’ videos.
Its not only his voice, but his guitar work is the best it’s ever been! His touch on those strings, his dynamics.. it’s literally perfect.
I also find it interesting he mentions missing Roi’s voice on this particular song. The community loves Coffin, but basically everyone agrees that Coffin overplays the sax on this song, especially on the intro. Dave misses Roi’s soul and thoughtfulness on this one, as do his fans.

I think Jeff Coffin is incredibly gifted. No one could ever replace Roi, though, and the band will always sound different without him.
How can you overplay the intro on sax? Isn’t it just three notes over and over?
@@StillBelieve22 if you go back and listen to One Sweet World pre 2008 and compare it to when Coffin plays, you’ll notice and ‘feel’ that Roi plays these notes softly. That’s what I meant by overplayed. Roi doesn’t play the notes as aggressively as Coffin - the note are easier on the ears. It actually highlights their personality differences in my opinion as well. Roi was very soft spoken in how he played the sax. He didn’t look for attention, and most often played in the ‘background’, from his soul.. subtly. It was beautiful.
Coffin is incredible and a much more technical player, but I have a strong feeling Dave is referencing Roi’s voice in this context. He likely misses how soft Roi played it.
@@dude4173 Yes that makes sense. I actually had noticed that Coffin attacks those notes more head-on. I didn’t know what you meant by “overplay”. But yes if you just randomly listen to any One Sweet World, you can tell who is playing sax during the intro. Interesting that other listeners picked up on those subtleties.
I could listen to the opening riff on a loop for hours, such a great live, acoustic version
I practically have done that. Well ok not a loop, but I've played this clip probably 75 times. Gives me goosebumps every time. It's a true masterpiece.
When your guitar playing is majestic but still is only complimenting your voice, you know there is something special. And that my friends is Dave Matthews. A gift to us all.

Dear Dave Matthews, I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil. I’m your fan and DMB fan since 2nd, May, 1996. On that day I was in NYC and went into Tower Records on the 5th Ave. I was looking for some CDs at that time snd suddenly A SONG WAS LAUNCHED ON THE BACKGROUND SOUND OF THE STORE!!! I was totally petrified by that sound and I thought:: THIS IS AWESOME, A MASTERPIECE, I’VE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING SO GORGEOUS BEFORE!!! Then I looked to the store’s front desk and the poster of the CRASH was there!!!! NEW RELEASE!!! I bought it and spent all that afternoon hearing it again and again in my hotel room! SINCE THEN I’VE BEEN BUYING ALL YOUR STUFF, READING MATERIALS, GOING TO CONCERTS ETC!!!!
Last year I went to the concert of the band in Tampa (July 2019). IT WAS SO SPECIAL FOR ME: THE FIRST CONCERT I WENT WITH MY 10 YEAR KID! HE LOVED IT!

"This song makes me think of Roi" So cool that he said that. When I am missing Roi...I listen the Golden Gate Park version of this tune. When he finally comes in on that intro, it's my absolute favorite Roi sound. This song actually makes me think of him more than the song that was written for him.
