When I heard they would be making this movie, my thoughts were "ugh.. Another live action remake?" But as with the others, I was still trying to remain open, and figured I'd probably still see it. They started announcing the cast. Sure. that's fine. Images of Flounder and Sebastian "Ermm..." Then the announcement for the change of lyrics to Kiss the Girl to be more sensitive about Eric forcing himself on her??? What????? I- but-....he-...she-...ugh.... And then another announcement about Poor Unfortunate Souls also being change? "I'm done." I don't even care to even try to see it anymore. -.-
I feel seen.
The change isn't even that big of a deal. Its no different than if they cut a song for run time. Which they had already done for the animated.

Sounds like me when I first saw The Force Awakens. Sounds a lot like that experience. People cheering in the theater at points that were in the trailer. Maybe it was just seeing Harrison Ford and Chewie.
Nothing about the plot was cheer worthy. I wished I caught a matinee of Revenge of the Sith instead. They said just wait for the other 2.
No one will admit I was right.
I love how people call out Disney remakes, its a remake and there's only so much you can do when you go to Live Action.. They're like videogame movies... they're not really any good ones. Don't expect Shakespeare or quality. Enjoy it for what it is.
This movie's for fans of the original... basically a Disney remake made in Live Action. Don't read into it too much. 😂
You should def not be alone in this take. Many folks are tired of remakes and this one being the loudest one in years is very exhuasting. Since 2010 we should know what to expect from these movies.
I never thought this or any remake was gonna be any thing more than subpar. And usually insulting

Viewers are entitled to their own opinion of the movie. But they’re NOT entitled to judge the actress for being of color instead of white like the original. No one is entitled to be racist. It’s a sign of disrespect and discrimination.
@@amylee8969 No, people are making far more judgement over the bad CGI, the lighting, writing, new songs and the emasculation of Eric. Using the actress as a human shield to deflect such criticism is the racism of low expectations.
How do you hate it but say to wait until it comes to Disney+ ? If people are gonna hate it they won't want to watch it on Disney+ and if they're like the ones who like it then seeing it in a theater will be awesome.

Well, Chelsey, this was worrying. 😅 For me and my siblings, the most concerning thing has been how darkly lit too many scenes are and, especially, why are Flounder and Sebastian so realistic and not-fun looking? See you in the Spoiler Review.

I watched this video when it was posted and almost let this influence my decision to go see the film. I agree art is subjective but I think we must have seen different movies because most of your commentary came from way over in left field. The movie was visually stunning and a great time!
I respect your opinion but hope you can go see the movie again… maybe advanced screenings were not what is actually in theaters 🤷♂️

I was disappointed by Aladdin. I wanted Will Smith to do more of a Will Smith thing rather than Will Smith trying to be Robin Williams playing the Genie. I have a review on this channel for more thoughts. 😊
Totally see what your saying from the Ursula song clip I've only seen. Ursula's sass in animated form you cannot compare though people are praising McCarthy. The animated version takes the acting to the strongest poses and the live action cannot compare to it as they were probably told not to move in certain way as they are underwater but it ends up having another detrimental effect of making the characters expressionless. Seems similar to the Lion king live action movie where the technology is impressive but not taking the characters acting/poses far enough or doing something enough differently from the original hurts it.

@amylee8969 you don't always have to see a movie to know it's a bad movie. nobody can pay me any much of money to see The Black Mermaid. it should never be made at all. I see The Little Mermaid but not The Black Mermaid it will be nice if Disney wakes up and do a live action The Little Mermaid and Ariel and if they do it right. so far not 1 live action movies is better then the cartoon movies. I love The Little Mermaid and hate the racist and sexist and other bad things The Black Mermaid.

This sounds like a very vapid review. I saw this film and while you are right about some of the actors being to stoic. Halle Berry is not one of those actors and she was charming through out tge whole film
The only thing that is a bit weird is having a black actress portraying a white charcther back in the 80s. But hey we had it back in 1997 and it actually worked. I do have high hopes for this film as I follow Halle's music and she has such a good singing voice.

I thought she did fine but also fell into the “Stone Face” acting. I think she did the best with what they gave her. I’d listen to the soundtrack before I watched it again. Too many story issues.
@@ChelseaRobson I haven't seen the movie, but based off the trailers, she doesn't look like a natural actor whatsoever. She looks hella stone-faced and bland in every shot. She's more of a singer, not actor.

Exactly! Its like she didn't even want to have an open mind when going to see this. She had already had it dead set in her mind she was gonna hate it and she did. And of course got to throw in the "unbiased friend" just to "prove" something. And then gonna talk about her unbiased friend feeling the same. I couldn't make it all the way through. I clicked it off half way through. Just like if you come out saying, ITS PERFECT I am gonna question you, but the same goes for people who say "I HATED IT NOTHING I LIKED", YEAH...ok. whatever.

The people who actually spent money on this are the reason films are crap nowadays.
This film is only good because of the genius soundtrack of the original. Take that away and it’s a terribly written, soulless mess pushing cultural erasure, feminism and black pride.
People who celebrate race swapping make me sick. The more they praise this, the more racist they seem to be. Otherwise, you have to admit this movie is dark, boring, illogical, and missing any shred of real romance.
How about ppl are actual fans of the actress and not necessarily her race, smh..

You’d be sorry they didn’t write a better story, like one set in the modern day, where she could have her own character identity and sport her natural hair and not have to play the black Princess of a story set in 18th century Europe which is absurd! Or make her hair look so God awful!
