I'm a cosmetology grad from 10 years ago, and finally have my priorities in order to practice for the Cosmetology State Boards in MI. Watching this video made me realize I need to get out of the books for a day, and actually put my hands to work for the practical portion. Thanks for the inspiration!
Gurl it’s never too late I took state board ten years after I started beauty school to I’m licensed and passed and it really is all about studying and putting the work in for state bored I have the videos for the state board still saved on my phone where my instructor demonstrated the entire state board if your truly interested I’ll send them your way they were the reason I passed !!
Beautiful! I remember when I was a young girl. The BRIDES getting their hair done… they’d go the day before their wedding… get their set done and come back to the salon for the “unveiling “ of their style. These videos are simply amazing and creative! Thank you!
I’ve been roller setting my hair for years and its never come out the way I’ve wanted. This is by far the best roller set I’ve ever seen, I’m going to try your technique and see how it goes thank you so much for this video it was so helpful
@@StylistLee1I second that. I have very curly hair but all videos ever have straight thin hair so never understood some parts. Thank you so much for this video!
I’ve always set my hair from the top down, rather than from the lower up. Going to try & see if it makes a difference. I take too much hair in a single “bite.” Your set is perfection!
Yes, I find working from the bottom up to be easier. Thank you so much for viewing my content. Be sure to let me know how this technique worked for you.

Hi Lee! As you can see, I have been obsessing over this look for 5 months now, and have come to the conclusion it’s the only hairstyle for me. Like Forever. Would you be able to give me a quick summary of the existing haircut on this mannequin, so I can relay them to my hairdresser in hopes of achieving this❤️🥺
Absolutely beautiful.❤ You make it look so easy with those darn clips lol The clips & pins have always given me trouble. You're so gifted. Thank you for sharing😊
My hair texture is similar….curly but thin. I use a light mousse (foam), something that is volumizing. Gel or creams are too heavy and weigh my hair down.
@@jodiehardy7220 A brand called Shea Moisture has a good mousse called Frizz-free Curl Mousse. It’s formulated without harsh ingredients and works really well. It’s almost a cross between a mousse and liquid, but doesn’t weigh the hair down. There’s also something else called Lottabody, it’s a blue liquid, that is meant to be sprayed on hair before you roller set it. It has great hold and very reasonably priced. You can find both these products in the black or ethnic hair care section of Sally’s or any beauty supply store.
Amazing roller set, you are a very talented and skilled professional… thanks for sharing your expertise… I wonder if it would work on fine thin 1-2a texture hair…
I've been trying to learn more on curling my hair cause I'm just board with straight hair and teased crown. I literally just got Velcro rollers and came across this video..do you like Velcro rollers for this style or the ones your using? I have thin long hair and tease my hair for volume..which would best benefit me to achieve this look?
Hi! Great question. I have tried both and to be honest I prefer hard rollers versus Velcro. However, I do find that a-lot of my Caucasian clients like Velcro. But being that you have fine/thin hair, I would not recommend. If done incorrectly, Velcro rollers could be a disaster. I find that you can achieve the same beautiful results using har rollers without the pain or tangling of Velcro.
I noticed that you said to only use about 3-4 (at the most 5) pumps of the setting lotion, but on the mannequin I saw that you actually used about 8 pumps. Is this right?
Yes of course! It's all in wrist and the tension. When you are doing a roller set its best that the hair is fully saturated with water and little setting lotion to allow for a great grip around the roller. Once you roll the hair at 180 degrees begin to slightly pull your roller at 90 degree angle, while continuing to roll the roller to the base. You should then see that your hair is smooth and the roller should look very stabile. After, apply your clip. Hope this helps.
You will not get the same results by air-drying. A hood-dryer produces endothermic heat. Excessive heat damages hair. You will need to adjust the heat settings on your dryer to accommodate your hair texture or type.
Unfortunately, you will not get the same roller set result with air drying. The heat from the dryer helps with sealing the hair cuticle and setting the curls in place.
Not necessarily, however the wetter you make your hair, the more noticeable and defined its curl will be. Just note you will need to dry hair for over a 1hour
Does anyone know how long the mannequins hair was? Also what were the size of the rollers??? Im trying to recreate keke palmers hair in her latest photoshoot !
Women's and Dominicana Republic 🇩🇴 can roller set their hair with their eyes closed 🤔 I've been watching my great-grandmother, grandmother, my mother roller set with hard plastic rollers and bobby pins since I was a baby. If part of our Dominican culture.
Many Caucasian women in the US used to do this. The trend was losing favor as the WW2 Generation women were passing away. Baby Boomers and Gen X really didn't get into it because it became an "old lady" hair style. Now younger women are rediscovering it and it's becoming popular again.
That is Dominican style roller set 😁 Dominicans been doing this type of roller set technique for centuries 🤔 it's considered part of the 🇩🇴 Dominican culture.
She is such a positive Stylist giving tips of a style. Why are you referencing where it may have originated from..? Put your negative energy somewhere else.
Girl the majority of Dominicans are mixed race lol Its a whole joke in the latin community that Dominicans refure to accept that. Ofc yall were doing what every black women were doing in the 60s around the globe, it was a trend that worked specifically well on permed hair, although it also worked in natural straight hair

You can get rollers from Any Beauty supply or Sallys Beauty.

This. This. This video❤❤❤❤❤

Can this be done on 4c hair?
Yes, but itvwill look more like a blow out.

Can we use this procedure for long hait
Great Question! Absolutely you can do this technique on long hair as well.
is there a wrapping lotion you suggest.
Girl so much body so much VOLUME in the hair it's beautiful,GORGEOUS 😍🥰💋
Thank you so much!!
Can I use these rollers on dry hair after rough drying it too? Thinking about buying magnetic rollers
Rollers should be set on "Wet Hair". Attempting to roll on dry hair will not give you these results you see here.
Wish you mentioned what base it was
Please ma'am, what is the name of the pin you used.

Can you do that roller set on a braid less sewin with the same side part?
You sure can, as long as its on 100% human hair
Do the hair has to be drenching wet?
