  • In this week’s episode, I’m running the three-man weave with Ben and James. I gave the guys a bit of homework before we recorded. Last month, Ben mentioned in his review of the Rolex “Le Mans” Daytona that maybe we should do “A Week On (An Owner’s) Wrist” reviews every once in a while. Talking about - and reviewing - watches that we’ve recently acquired. I thought it was a pretty good idea (nice, Ben!), so I called him up and said “Let’s do it on the pod!” Of course, I had to get James in the mix as well to keep us grounded in reality (and Seikos). So each of us came ready to talk about two watches we’ve recently acquired. Why we bought them, what we like about them, and what we’d change if we could. We cover basically the entire range of watches, from Swatch to Seiko to maybe the hottest indie around.

    This is a surprisingly good episode. They kept it light and just talked about watches as enthusiasts and less about what's new and what's in the shop. This feels like hanging out with the three of them having a beer on a sunny afternoon.

    Ben what an attitude, he was not listening at all to what Tony and James were talking. He might be living in watch heaven but in this episode seemed as an arrogant dude who had nothing to say to what his partners were passionately talking about normal Joe's watches such as Seiko. When he responded he did in a very disdainful manner. I listened to this on my Friday morning fully, and I really wish I hadn't. It made me feel very bad for the 2 guys (Tony and James) that were trying to light up the show.

      I don’t get that vibe at all? If anything Tony’s making things weird with the different uncalled for jabs at Ben.

    • @Eyephere
      @Eyephere 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Joacimbylehn yeah I commented on that too where it felt like sTony’s nervousness was really being off putting in a peculiar way and i think Ben was mostly responding to that. I like Tony but I think his nervousness got the best of him on this and it came off as unnecessary jabs

    The long term solution is to minimise crown and caliber to the standard lower end Rolex resale plus entry level releases between $500 and $5k for other brands. Acquire Wind Vintage, Menta and Collectability in a super vintage move. Creating a vintage focused competition to 1916. I’m guessing that would have been a lot cheaper and vastly superior to C&C in commercial and content.

    Some constructive feedback. Whilst Ben and James are great guests it’s clear Tony is a bit put off by the big boss being there. The dialogue for the 3 quarters is much better between James and Ben than with Tony. Tony has to keep Ben as a contributor to H rather than the boss, otherwise it doesn’t flow very well. The concept of the show was good.

      Exactly what I was thinking..I don't know the dynamic between Ben and the employees but it looked like he was being a bit too bossy and annoyed by Tony. Maybe it just looks like that and they are always bullshitting around when they're together. But Ben looked annoyed😂

    • @Eyephere
      @Eyephere 4 месяца назад

      Ben did seem annoyed but I think Tony only kept digging himself into a deeper hole every time he spoke on it. Got awkward. I think that just stems from Tony being nervous.

    I like Tony as the new host but his nervousness is palpable and it comes across, at times, a bit rude to the guests in a way that doesn’t quite make sense.
    And then they just kinda try to awkwardly laugh it off. At a few points in this episode, it felt like he and Ben were on the verge or mean to one another and it felt like it spawned from Tony’s nervousness mostly. James kinda kept this together. Anyway, don’t let the nervousness take over and you’ll be great, Tony.

    So the watches you discussed were a couple of plastic Swatches, Seikos, and a million dollar Rexhepi??!! And we, as watch enthusiasts, are supposed to relate to which of the above exactly??!! The Cartier Tortue was the only watch worth discussing although it had just over a minute. Hodinkee with its featuring of a few celebrities that each has all kinds of high end Nautiluses and Perpetual calendars from Patek and every Skeltonised or ceramic iteration from Royal Oak have just done a huge disadvantage to the real watch enthusiasts who are really passionate about watches regardless of their income and social status, on the other hand they did the Swiss watch brands a great service allowing them to increase prices on their high end watches since all these watches get hyped on the grey market and sell for a huge premium. Before Hodinkee, a Nautilus would sell for a discount! And now it’s over a 100k USD!!!

    Hey guys, love to watch your episodes. Even though, I didn't think this episode was that good, weird vibes, no good flow, the last episode with Eric was much better. Focus more on quality instead of quantity, Ben and James must know so many great stories, go into detail, these are the unique things you can bring to the table.
