14:33 another detail I like about this game is when you do get exactly the right amount the other miis look at you surprised, that's what makes counting worth it haha
You can actually juke the three players in Poserobics into making a choice, then switching it at the last second. It's a lot more fun that way, so I'd put it in B. Lumber Whacks also has some strategy, where you can throw your log faster than normal to try and make the one player fall off balance, allowing you to actually hit them. Overall, also a B.
I had such an awful traveling experience very recently and being able to just kick back and relax and watch this video felt like exactly what I needed. Thanks for the laughs Mr Bog!
When I was a kid I used to play Wii Party by myself by connecting four wii remotes and trying to control all of them at the same time. Going through this list I can't help but categorize it into "games that sort of work while holding four different wii remotes" and "games that would be better if child-me had friends". Ah, good times.
the sheer amount of joy this gave me anyway my point is the pair minigames are absolutely goated and anyone who dislikes the sheep should be smited on the spot
I wish I lived in a time that this was the most popular game ever. I mean i did but, you get what I'm saying. Amazing video. 35 minutes. Wow! I jumped out of my seat when I saw that lol
RNG (or RNG-heavy) minigames are still good to have in party games, as a catch up mechanism to lessen the impact of skill. This is especially nice for modes where the player in 4th place can choose the minigame, and they can pick one that leaves things up to chance instead of a battle of skill. Jumbo Jump actually has an RNG element to the game, which makes players jump different distances even if they swing at the same time. This is to prevent ties from happening in the game itself, which is more elegant and diegetic than doing a tiebreaker roll afterwards. Dicey Descent at least allows a little bit of player agency, namely in how you can pick if you’re on the same side as certain other players, which can be important in how it can guarantee wins for players in an advantage state. Strategy Steps is a push-your-luck Prisoner’s Dilemma game, rather than a pure RNG game, especially if all players are human. Prisoner’s Dilemma, although still ultimately very random, is preferable to pure RNG. Risky Railroad once again allows you to decide if you take the path as certain other players, which can once again be an important decision to make. It’s pure luck once it’s down to 2 players, though. Lucky Launch is pure RNG. Hide-and-Peek is pure luck, but most players don’t actually realize that the ideal strategy is to have one (human) player intentionally hide behind the horses, which leads to a higher chance of winning for the hiders, which is unintuitive to think about, seeing as the seeker can literally see you hiding there. This turns this minigame into a secret statistics test, which is, well, something, at least? Meet and Greet also technically tests your button mashing skills (since the faster you can pick a door, the faster you’ll complete the minigame), as well as coordination between players to not pick duplicate doors once they’re each just 1 door away, but that’s a very small part of the minigame. And then obviously RNG appears throughout tons of other minigames as well (order of obstacles in Flap Hurdles, puzzles in Puzzle Pick-Up, asteroids in Moon Landing, Mii behavior in Smile Snap, etc.), but that’s not the type of RNG you object to. Smile Snap is actually a good example of a partial RNG game, since in addition to being a push-your-luck game of deciding how many smiling Miis you want to photograph at once, it also tests your reaction speed to even act on the situation. And as my final note, obviously, even amongst RNG minigames, there can still be ways to present them that make them more engaging. There’s a reason that across the Mario Party series, Bowser’s Big Blast is basically universally recognized as the best RNG minigame, and it purely comes down to presentation.
I severely disagree with a lot of these placings, but since Wii party is undoubtedly one of my favorite Wii games, I am just enjoying someone talking about it 😔✌️ great video, loved the fact that a lot of minigames matched their music in-game with the ones you put on video, amazing detail
While it might seem silly and possibly stupid that one of the hiding spots you can see the mii from the seeker screen, sacrificing a single player to force the seeker to "find" that player actually increases the team of 3's probability of winning.
my friends and i have been doing something we call “wii party tournaments” where we play every 4 player mini game in a row and see who wins the most mini games. one of them that i’m really good at is quicker chipper, and yet, by best friend always manages to get 12 EVERY SINGLE TIME. i don’t know how she does it also my favourite mini game is back attack by far
Ain't no way it took you an hour to beat the CPU (what difficulty I didn't pay attention) on Delivery Duel I can consistently beat the Master CPUs on that game
I remember I always used to kick my family’s asses in Follow Your Face and to this day I have no idea how I’m able to keep track of where my face goes so consistently
15:30 If can accurately count to 5 secs after a timer with a rhythm, including pushing the stop button; It'd say you'd be able to perfectly do minigames like this without flinching and pressing the button waaaayyyy too early...
One of the things that make this my 4th favourite video game of all time is how funny it is when you are playing with friends or family and they lose something or something bad happens to them and their reaction is always funny.
I don't know why it never connected with me that you would be playing Wii Party with your miis, and I felt like I was seeing famous people out in the while like the Stoke-on-Trent Steamers getting off the train! Like, I could imagine your mii counting the people on the train and then seeing the some of the team getting out and rushing for autographs! My favorite, including my sister's, was the back attack one and teamwork temple. We loved the temple one so much for some reason XD.
I need to see the stoke on Trent steamers play board game island!! also, for the log jumping one, try moving the remote side to side rather than up and down :)
Christ, how's your foot after that experiment with the football minigame? I bet that hurt. Great list though, there's something quite endearing with a gaming tier list done in the form of a college presentation. Oh, also, just because I made a related comment in the community post announcing this video coming up: 4:47 "I did in fact, end up as a snowball which is the biggest humiliation in Jumbo Jump." Glad to see the origin story behind why Engine Room's skiing trip in Austria gave him that injury to his confidence.
im currently going through a wii party brainrot so i definitely needed this, but thag exceedingly low low pogo stick game rating was NOT what i needed lmao jokes aside, youre actualy hilarious!! it makes me want to do one of these on my own too, except im nowhere near priveleged enough to get all of the stuff i need to record my insane chop chops gameplay.
Funny thing about Hide and Peek, is that it’s actually a better strategy to have one player hide behind the horses in the center. If you assume the hiders can’t coordinate to all hide in different spots, (they’re CPUs, or the seeker could hear human players talking), then if nobody hides behind the horses, the hiders only have a 91/216 (42.13%) chance of winning after the seeker can prove that nobody’s behind the horse. But if one player chooses to hide behind the horses (and they can guarantee that they’re the only one, because CPUs don’t hide there, and you can say it out loud to the seeker, since they’d just be able to see you anyway), then the seeker only has 4 guesses to finding the remaining two players, leading to a 5/9 (55.56%) chance of the hiders winning. Hiding in plain sight is literally a good thing, because it wastes a guess on a spot that the seeker can normally automatically eliminate. If the hiders can coordinate with one another (3 humans all hide in different spots versus 1 CPU), then the odds of winning in each case are 1/2 (50%) and 3/5 (60%) instead. And just to be complete, the odds of winning for the hiders with 2 humans who can coordinate, and 1 CPU that can’t are 4/9 (44.44%) and 5/9 (55.56%) for each strategy, respectively.
I swear to god, any of those minigames (even the “underwhelming” ones) could get tense as fuck in the context of the bigger game it takes place in. Face flip gets real very quickly when you’re one away from a 2 X 3 in Swap Meet and there’s a wild mii on the table.
I have one controller where the shaking doesn’t work for flap hurdles/hurdle hover 80% of the time no matter how fast you shake, and the other 3 controllers are perfectly fine. “Skill issue” jokes aren’t funny if it’s actually not the player’s fault
God, I remember when I was playing Rope Sling/Lofty Leap and accidentally got -181 yards. 181 is the farthest you can go in that game. I think. Good times.
181 is the farthest you can go. Also, one time me and my mom both got 281 in the same round, so 181 literally happened twice in a row. I once tried to get 181 twice in a row by myself for like 30 minutes but couldn’t do it. I got 181 and then 180 several times though. I have gotten 180 probably 250+ times, and 181 probably 25+ times total
