- Doing the second 56 Olds fender section on the 49 Chevy and I run into some issues! Some are mistakes by me and I needed to find a way to over come those mistakes and fix my problems.
5 days late eatching this one. Watching you work metal is like watching VanGough painting, your glued watching every detail. Im so glad you decided to start a RUclips channel. All i can say is EPIC !!!!!
Having the patience to stop and sort out what is happening and how to correct it is what seperates most metal work from great metal work.
You and Karl as well have shown us how to do things right!
Flipping that template to the other side was really smart, lining up with the bolt. Great tip!
Ray Shaleen (sp) out of the Boston area does a lot with templates and flipping them over to get the other side's part.
Fitzee's welding with his right hand @ 13:40! On top of everything else, the master is AMBIDEXTROUS!

The tips were great and it was interesting to see how you were able to put both pieces together after the new piece moved on you. The results show the quality of the work. The headlights are even and the lines flow nicely. Thanks for showing us how it's done.

Custom bodywork at it's best. You are a master at what you do. You explain what to do when you make mistakes. Very enjoyable watching you doing bodywork using the cut n but method.

I was taught to not bend the metal with clamps when welding them together, and it can be a total PITA. Nice to see someone who will tweak it quite a bit while welding them together and get fine results.
I find metal that is pushed down tends to help with warpage as it want to pull up to relax. When you pull metal up to weld it will want to relax downward making tucks in the weld.
@@fitzeesfabrications that makes sense, I never thought about it like that. Maybe it will save me some time on this old Travelall I'm patching up. Thank you for responding and explaining it.

I am a bit of a hack when it comes to autobody sheet metal. The hammer and dolly magic alludes me. While other channel videos try to explain it I am still mystified by it. A video short on YOUR technique qould be very helpful. I always use too much body filler to hide my mistakes. I am always hinged on your next video. YOU are what makes this channel GREAT. None of the drama!!!
@jeffpidgeon I was mystified by hammer and dolly too until someone called it “dent flipping “ and explained that dents cause a wave in the metal. Every low has a high or highs on either side. When you tap on the highs while pushing up on lows it reverses the dent

I'd love to be the fly on the wall when Tony tells the finish body guy what to look out for and where to pay attention for blending the various body curves. I mean, it's just not going to be obvious because the fabrication work is so good. Maybe a walk around with a sharpie adding some circles and arrows?
Can't get enough of the little details that go into the Cut n Butt. Most of them seem obvious, but not until after they are explained. That is one good indicator of craftsmanship - and a great instructor.
I also like it when you screw up and have to scratch your head and think for a moment. Then you go on and prove it may be more work but it's not a disaster.
Great skill and patience - I really appreciated the close ups showing the method used and patience required. this was a sharp contrast to some of the other resto channels where filming from a distance using time lapse teaches you zero. Thanks Tony.
Had to watch the whole video. I know now metal is alive. It has a mind of it's own and it jumps. Nice work as usual. You are so meticulous. I hope the owner of the project sees how well his car is being done.
Another excellent clinic on fitting metal. I learned how you adapt to address the highs and lows. It shows how you have to be methodical and pay attention to what is happening not only at the weld but downstream. Fabulous.
Tough one! There’s so much work in fitting something as large and complex as those fender tops it would want you to be bringing a lot to the appearance of the finished product really. A challenge this one, well done, took a bit of courage to take that on.
Thanks for this video. The demo for the processes you use to essentially combine two different fender designs is great knowledge for us. I remember working on a 1963 Olds Dynamic 88 and realizing the front fenders were not identical. The slopes were just slightly different. You would think that GM would have been able to create identical clay models. But I guess not. Thanks for your top notch work. This car gets better all the time. !

I’ve got one small flathead screw driver sharpened down to a flat point just for sticking in between and prying just that little bit to get them perfectly aligned before the zap 👍

I tried my hand at cutting sheetmetal with a cutting disc today. Got off the line several times. Not as easy as you make it look. Need to practice a lot more. Thanks for sharing your techniques with us.

started holler'n at the tv..."Tony...Check the Clamp". been in and around the trade for 65yrs+.
but...we always learn things "and tips are always good"; from every one of your videos!!!

Looks like you've got some nice warm weather over there in Newfoundland now. It's the opposite here in Queensland Australia, where it's the middle of winter. We've had temperatures as low as 3°C at night, but the days have been around 22°C. It looks like the really cold nights are departing for a short break at the moment, but they are predicting showers, so that will hold up our projects yet again.
Watching you work your magic! Makes me want to go out and start another project !

Hi Tony. I've seen similar fitment problems trying to use pre-made patch panels on a newer vehicle. It was quite difficult to remedy since I don't have your years of experience. Hopefully now, I have a better chance. It is always amazing to me how you make the cut and butt work so well!

Love your videos. In the process of fixing my car and what a difference your advise has given. Ford Focus mk2, Metal is only about. 0.4mm thick. So easy to burn through. Would love to see a one off video where you try a quick fix on a modern car just so we can see how you would get on 😂.

It's because of you that I am making this comment....lol. When I saw you using the long jaw vice gripes on the forward outside radius around the 20:00 mark, I notice the top long flat line getting a long upward arc, and thought I don't remember that happening on the other side. Then when you showed how much it jumped over at the door post end, at not backwards, I got to thinking something ain't the same here. I also got to thinking "What the heck would I do?" The answer was easy, find out if Fitzee ever came across this and what was his solution. Thanks to you and your methods of apply, review, adapt, execute, review, complete, it went from looking like a Steve's disaster to a Fitzee's metal whisperer finessed custom. Love your channel and thank you for the knowledge and inspiration. Cheers from BC.

Really impressed with your cut and butt. I'm sure the old time customizers would have just overlapped everything and called it good enough.
Great example of how two old panels on the same car are never the same. The car has had a life before you get it and many things can happen - replacement second hand or NOS panel, repaired panel damage, different factory pressing and fitment that may have moved / flexed differently over time.....and then you're adding a whole new level of complexity with the tops of two other fenders that may also have been slightly different in their pressings and the life they had on the car they were on. Sounds easy in theory that one side fitment should be the same as the other, but as we know, it's not always the case and its down to us to recognise what the metal is telling us and adapt our technique to get the desired result. Certainly attempt to duplicate the technique from one side to the other, but be prepared to step outside the box if need be.....and keep referencing, measuring, templating so you know which bit needs the attention.
You're a skilled master, my friend. Many good tips - the best one being to stop and look at things, get your bearings, take a deep breath and refocus on the end result. Many thanks for taking us through it. All the best

I enjoy watching both you and Bad Chad. You have different approaches, but I learn from both of you. What blows me away is the difference in followers. Chad has a huge number of haters who show up for EVERY SINGLE VIDEO so they can complain that he doesn't know what he's doing. If he changes his mind, he doesn't have a plan. If he makes a mistake, he's a hack. God forbid that he uses a coat hanger for filler material. Here, people understand the process and are respectful and appreciative. I don't fully understand why it is this way, but I appreciated the atmosphere here on Fitzee's Fabricatons a whole lot more. Thanks for everything, Tony.
Think haters tend to stick around a channel where there is no interaction between the owner of the channel. I read all the posts and respond to questions and interesting statements. I can honestly say I don't see very many haters over here. But what I come to learn is haters make you money as other haters jump in to join the games. Sad but true.
