One night, Ren got a phone call from another friend saying that Joe had called to say goodbye, that he was going to jump. Ren lived close to the bridge, so he ran from his home to the bridge, trying to call Joe while he was running. He said that the first few times he tried, he got a busy signal, but about two minutes before Ren arrived at the bridge, he started to get a "number out of service" message. By the time he got there, Joe was gone. There was a volunteer search and rescue team that looked for Joe's body for several days, but they never found him. Ren was able to donate around $20,000 to that search and rescue organization last year, in Joe's honor.

On that first album is a song called "Fire" and guess what? It is fire!

Ren can take such soul crushing heartbreak and make something artistic and timeless from it - I hope Joe looked down on his friend when he performed this and let him know, somehow, that its OK. @@TociReacts I do know. As an incurable introvert, it took a force of will every time I was in front of the camera! The process sucked but I believed in the project, so I endured it. I followed what the director wanted to cover while our sound man made it very clear that he wanted to be somewhere else. The cameraman was focused at least. Anyway, I hate what I went through, and I hate my part in that pilot episode, but I need to remind myself that because I did, dozens of people got a voice to share their most precious memories with the world. I'll not know the impact of that in my lifetime. It's also been one of my opportunities to endure RUclips's troll brigade.
