Doug Henry was a major role model for me during my time as a local amateur, Him & "Junkyard Dog" John Dowd. Since both r from the N.East they would occasionally race district 34 at my home track, Walden MX (Walden Playboys) in NY & those 2 along with local pro Carlo Coen (National #69) always had incredible bar to bar battles! It was incredible to watch those 3 go at it! Of course Dowdy &Henry were amazing, & Carlo having the home track advantage was always able to hang with em everytime. I was so lucky to have been able to be apart of the sport at the time & was honored to ride the same track they were on...our local track at Walden has actually hosted & produced some great riders...Carlo Coen, who held a National # for over a decade, Ryan Mills who had a promising career ahead of him but for some reason his pro career didn't last too long, Mike Leavitt, and most notably 2011 250 SX e champion Justin "Bam Bam" Barcia. I remember watching him kill it in on a 50! Thanks for the great memories Doug!
One of my fav riders ever.. I got to see him at the Houston supercross riding the prototype yz400 when he was the only one riding a 4 stroke.. Legend!!
I raced at budds Creek for years and it's a track that can and will hurt you real quick . I was there when doug got injured both times and was right at the jump on the now infamous HENRY HILL as well as the huge uphill double which he broke both of his arms.I sustained a almost identical severe injury to my back as well that had me less than 1 millimeter away from being paralyzed from the waist down and was told by numerous doctors YOUR RACING DAYS ARE OVER ! SOME OF THE WORST WORDS THAT I EVER HAD BEEN TOLD !! oh and my huge scar is in the middle of my back ,from mid back down to just above my ass about 12 " long .like doug I still ride but no racing errrr, whenever doug raced at BUDDS CREEK, AND DOUG YOU CAN PERSONALLY ATTEST TO THIS YOU WERE BY FAR THE MOTOCROSS FANS FAVORITE RIDER EVERYTIME YOU CAME THERE TO RACE !!! KEEP ON TRUCKIN BUDDY !!! ...
Very classy guy...Watched him as my boy and many others had pics taken with him at this 2014 Atl. Ga. SX. He smiled and talked with all the kids. Not all the riders responded to the kids as he did. So he don't just speak about a good attitude, he lives it.
Use to watch him ride before he got sponsored we all got off the track so he could have it. He was crazy fast and that place was whoop de doo city! Almost as scary as having Scott Summers fly up behind you on that big XR, only other rider I ever have pass me so fast I couldn't even try to keep up LoL!
I can say the same about Scott Summers I got the chance to race the gncc at Loretta Lynn's back in the 90's a few times super fast guys..I rode an xr600 also..
I played and paused that on my VHS so I could write all that down in 2001. It's still on the back of my bedroom door. He broke his back again and has modified a YZ450F to be controlled by hand controls, he still rides so quick and smooth... Does anyone know if he has a fan page on facebook?? Cos I cant find one.
@BADLUX idk about a fan page but i used to work at a go kart track and they did some supermoto there he would start facing the wrong way cause he was so good and i don't think i ever saw him lose there, lol miss that jib got paid to watch races lol, his story is a true inspiration i looked him up because of the xgames i remember his gold back in 2005 then when i herd he was paralyzed i was saddened by such a great rider not able to race anymore but i guess i under estimated his determination
As a former racer,,, Wrong, Wrong Wrong. You don't just heal. Injury stays with you for the rest of your life. You can take the attitude that you will just heal. When you're 60 years old and in constant pain all day, every day,,, EVERY DAY,, It's just not worth it kids. Not matter how famous you are,, or how much money you have. I love Moto X,,, I love what Henry was able to achieve,,, He is one of the best to ever put a leg over a bike,,, I'm a huge fan,,, But, to all you kids out there,,,from my perspective of living in severe pain every day of my life,,, NOT WORTH IT!!!!! You could have the biggest house and the best cars, and a great swimming pool, the most beautiful wife,,. but when your wife leaves you because she can't stand watching you hooked on opiates and in pain every day??? Live ruined,,, Its just not worth it kids. No disrespect to Doug,, He was one of the best of all time. But think about it, after you have had several concussions and a couple of spine fractures... Rethink your choices.

The man who killed the 2 stroke
The EPA killed the 2 stroke in racing, manufactures had to bow down unfortunately.
