I just got my lamy dialog cc in medium nib, I own a lot of fountain pens, this is BY FAR the smoothest, fanciest, best quality pen I own, I mean WOW!!!
that's my favourite pen! I was freaking out the first moment that I received the pen, since the nib unit wasn't screwed fully, and for that reason the mechanism wasn't working after removing it and searching about how to put it back on (the first time I was pushing it since I thought that the unit was friction fit and that screw is INCREDIBLY long, I thought that the whole thing was broken!) now it's working again. I hope that I haven't damaged the pen, but right now it's a pure joy to write with!
Brian, I thank you for your expertise in disassembly and cleaning and assembly of the Lamy Dialog CC Fountain Pen. It's quite a unique pen construction and a design of some intricate parts. I have the older pen, but find the newer pen without the clip seem more appealing. I guess I will budget for the 14Kt one, as I like smaller pocket sized pens. Oh.. Turkey Hammock. LOL.
You cannot imagine how helpful and encouraging this has been because I have grown frustrated with how the blue Lamy Dialog CC I have is never write ready. Aesthetics are just as important as function to me, so I will live with this quirky pen and follow Brian's advice as per usual.
Thanks for the video! The Dialog 3 was one of the first (maybe the very first) gold-nib pen I bought, and I really like(d) it. As I got more pens and had them all inked up, I didn‘t use it so regularly and discovered this issue with the drying out if not used frequently. At the moment, it is uninked as I slowly move in the direction of a certain D. Brown (but I‘m not going to the radical extent of only allowing myself 3 pens!), but it will come back into the rotation at some point. I would rather have the CC, but I don‘t really see paying a healthy chunk of money for essentially the same pen. Reason does at times win out over my emotion.
I have been more of a fan of the pilot pens, And in regard to Depends drying out they just don’t that often. The Vanishing Point Capless just just doesn’t seem to dry out. I have several and they are just very consistently great. It would be good to compare the two in so far as the nibs drying out in the pens. I am tempted by the CC law. A much higher price and the vanishing point.
I absolutely love my Dialog 3. Glossy finish, lovely feel, super weighty and satisfying, smooth nib. But is there any way to lubricate the mechanism? Mine has been used daily for the last 7 months and is getting a bit gritty (I clean it out and let it dry thoroughly every few weeks).
I like the Dialog design but, for some reason, I've found my experience with both the Dialog and the Pilot Vanishing Point to be somewhat meh. Perhaps it's related to the combination of small nib and my being left-handed. When using either of those retractable nib pens, it feels as if the nib is scratching across the paper, rather than flowing. I get a similar feeling with "traditional" fountain pens with steel nibs. I have a much better time with "traditional" pens with gold nibs such as the Pilot Custom 823, the Visconti Homo Sapiens, the Diplomat Aero (with a gold nib), and even with a Montblanc 149. The Cross Townshend, too. Those all glide across even the cheapest paper (although the experience is much better to more-suitable paper). OK. I went a little off-topic. Thanks for the demo, Brian. I truly enjoy your videos, the instructional, the conversational, and the reviews. I find them all to be very informative.
thanx for the video, ı ve bought a lamy dialog 3 and ı want to ask that if ı can use it with the refill, which comes with the box already because ı dont want to put an ink in it etc.
I tried one and the wiggly nib being lose on there made me go insane The little cover Mechanism is amazing tho I wanna see how it opens and cut it in half!
Turkey Hammock! This is the video Drew was talking about in the pen cast where you hadn't cleaned out the pen and the ink came out blue/black instead of brown 😂 I thought you had to refilm it? Or am I totally wrong?
I also had the opportunity to see two Dialogs in the wild - side by side - in a university setting. The couple that were taking notes with them were pretty loaded.
I have been a fan of Pilot pens, And in regard to Pens drying out,… they just don’t, Except rarely.. The Vanishing Point Capless just doesn’t seem to dry out. I have several and they are consistently great. It would be cool to compare the two in so far as the nibs/ink drying out in the pens. The softer nib in the CC is tempting, but the price is giving me pause. A much higher price than the Vanishing Point.
I love this pen. I bought it in white and liked it so much I got it in blue, too. I've never done anything like that before, not with a pen this expensive.
I like the CC design because I'm left handed, and having a clip in the way of my grip is deeply unhelpful. I wish the Pilot Capless was available with just a rollstop, like the Majohn A1, and, in fact, as it was available in the past, I was surprised to learn.
This may sound off but are you sure the cleaning shell isn't meant to also allow you to refill the pen with the nib installed in the body? If you are careful not to submerge the body some may find it faster/more convenient to just remove the back to access the plunger knob and not remove the whole nib.
Easy to trust a guy with a rubber band a a wedding ring ☺ at least he's honest about how serious his sales pitches are. When it fails at least youre not losing anything serious like body parts, only money.
Looks like a lovlely pen. I just have to ask myself if I need gas, groceries, rent, utilities, and food this pay period, or a pen? Sadly, the mundanities of life must come first, and this pen may as ell be made of unobtainium. But it is a thing of beauty!
I have a dialog 3 and unfortunately it has let me down a lot compared to my two VPs. I've had to manually adjust (bend) the clip because it wasn't seating properly in the slot when extended, and I've had to add teflon tape to the threads of the nib unit because when it was fully extended it had become noticeably off-center to the clip. It dries out appreciably after 2 days of not being used, and the nib unit design makes it impossible to flush out with a bulb syringe. All this said, I do love my dialog 3, but it did make me more skeptical of dropping money on future lamy products :\
Interesting. I prefer the Decimo because this one gives me the impression the nib sticks out at an awkward angle. My nib flows naturally from the tapered hood. This the Lamy doesn’t seem to have the same gradual tapering and the nib looks longer. I think I just prefer the Decimo to their first vanishing nib because it’s slimmer. Just a preference-but I might add one to my collection because it might be great for carrying in my bag.
The writing color doesn’t look Topaz to me It looks like the Obsidian one! And Lamy Crystal has the dark blue Azurite! Brian doesn’t know a blue colored ink! What is happening! 🦃🌲🪢🏁🪢🌲
You beat me to it! Then again, Brian said that he was filling it with Topaz; never said anything about writing with it! Or maybe, the pen had some leftover ink which mixed with the Topaz.
I always figured that the extra piece is so that you can clean it with the nib door shut, allowing you to clean components that aren't as accessible with the door open.
Lamy having fundamentally the same gold nibs across all of its range (with the exception of the hooded 2000s) - as well as the same plastic feeders for everything, ranging from their entry level Safaris to much more expensive models like the Dialog CC here - really turns me off high end Lamys. If an entry level gold nib Lamy (like the Studio) is going to perform identically to something 2-4x its price, its hard to justify paying the premium for the form factor...

Such a stunning pen! The nib is sooo smooth and the quality is just incredible!
I just got a Navy Dialog cc! I adore it! What a wonderfully designed pen! The nib is outstanding. Great writer 😊

I think the blue CC is on my list.
I love my Dialog 3 piano B&W so the blue will look great.
Thanks Brian

When you bought it did it come with a free converter?
@@T_B1 As I remember (it's been over a year and a half), it did, and the website says it comes with one.

Received my Lamy Dialog 3 Pianowhite today.
Watching your video before filling it.
Gorgeous looking pen love the way you refill it great advice about being careful with the nib when you put it back in the pen
I agree interesting and informative!! Great info on the difference between he two types of converters!! Nice video! Thanks as Always!!
Thanks for watching! - Drew

I use wd 40 lube in it… tinny bits.
Beautiful pen

Thanks! This helped me a lot to understand how these retractible pens work!
Neat pen!!
You've got lovely handwriting, Brian! I don't think I've seen it before 😀

We did re-film it! However we accidentally used the wrong clip! Good catch! - Drew
Drew definitely approves of the treasures underneath the pillow. ;)
You know it! - Drew
It's certainly professional looking.
Oh yeah, the real Vanishing Point :)
I also had the opportunity to see two Dialogs in the wild - side by side - in a university setting. The couple that were taking notes with them were pretty loaded.
Errrr.... no. Just the extra $$$ and a VP wannabe with some pretty rose gold thrown on 😁
Wonderful explanation Sir.

Very useful video, thanks!
Sorry if this is a stupid question but can you ONLY fill this pen from a pot of ink and not with T10 cartridges?
It takes Lamy cartridges
Pretty cool pen, reminds me of a Cuban cigar from the size of it 😂
I love this pen. I bought it in white and liked it so much I got it in blue, too. I've never done anything like that before, not with a pen this expensive.
Whats the ring thing for
@@duckity4320 You mean the thing Brian talks about at @10:27 ? It's to help clean the body of the pen.
I like the CC design because I'm left handed, and having a clip in the way of my grip is deeply unhelpful. I wish the Pilot Capless was available with just a rollstop, like the Majohn A1, and, in fact, as it was available in the past, I was surprised to learn.
Was this the blooper you mentioned in the Pencast, or am I blind in thinking the ink looks a bit blue? 😂💙.
Haha, this is the one! We did some creative editing so most people can't really tell but you're spot on!
I bought the retractable dialogue Lamy
The nib is always dry
So when I want to write
It takes a while until the ink starts to flow
What can be done ??
Great video
Thanks for watching! - Drew
Very nice >>>>>> Thank you

No.
Nice 👍
If i had this I'd just pull the converter out fill it directly so I don't mess the nib up
Very cool and modern looking, but for me, there is no need to buy another Lamy pen, I have 2, and they work great.
What keeps the ink from leaking out through the filler hole?
Capillary action! Hooray physics! It's like filling a straw with water and plugging the back of it with your thumb. - Drew
@@Gouletpens Thanks!
Similar design to the Visconti Pininfarina Carbongraphica.

I have had this pen like forever, but have found it too finicky to use as a daily writer. Still not a convert despite this excellent video.

does it have clip. and how does it work ? thanks.
No clip on this one.
Do you know if the feed is friction fit, like the lamy safari?
I got brave and tried it on my pen. It is friction fit and removes just like a safari.
I prefer the lines on the Dialog 3 as a guide.
Today, I was cleaning my Lamy 2000 and I almost lost the ring in my bathroom. It's the first time I was doing that. My Lamy is new

You only buy more expensive pens for the name and the aesthetics. Past a certain (low) price, they're all the same.
I think, if this Lamy was a human, it would be woman: a very complicated species!
Too much trash talking
Your comment is trash.
