  • Installing DALI lighting controls becomes effortless with modular wiring systems and lighting control modules. In this video, Gordon Routledge delves into the configuration of a typical lighting control system using LCM's and prefabricated wiring systems. Additionally, we demonstrate the swift implementation of a user-friendly lighting control system, ideal for classrooms and offices.

The CP Electronics "room by room" approach is called Vitp-7 and you don't need a commissioning engineer to set up the LCM's (lighting control modules) you look through the pre-set room layouts to see what fits your room layout, plug the lights in to what's shown in that layout and use the CP remote control to send the pre-set number shown on the layout.
    Job done.

Looking into new lighting systems for an open plan office space at my current workplace. As the whole outside edge of the building is glazed I wish to use the daylight gathering feature etc Dali seems like the logically route to go

When I've done DALI installations it was the case you mentioned, of a person from the equipment supplying company coming to site when we had finished with poropriety commissioning device to set each device up. Am I correct in thinking that is not the case with this manufacturer, if so, is it just the IR remote that is used because that would surelly bring the cost down a lot?

Yes that's right it's an out of the box control system for smaller rooms.

Ive worked with Ex Or and CP Electronics LCMs. I have the programmers for both of them. Very good systems. It seems a bit scary at first but its quite basic.

I quite like Dali stuff, but i dont like the driver terminal enclosures, they just arent designed for 1.5mm multicore flex.
Most contractors buy a job lot of pre-wired pligs, all 1.5mm, 3,4,5 & 6 core, and dont look at how they will be connected at the driver, often leaving random sparks, mates, apprentices to connect them.
This leads to chopped cores (cos there isnt an earth terminal, and cos the only leads left were 4 core leads when 3 core (or 2 core) was alll that was required), and cores that are visible outside of the terminal enclosure - and sometimes simply no lid on the terminal enclosure because it was too difficult and when they asked for smaller cables got told to 'just use these up'.
This is a massive bug bear of mine and no-one else seems to care.

Shame that this series of videos had to be sponsored by flex 7, basically just an advert for a system so basic it is pointless. Do a video on Simmtronic, Lutron, Helvar, Zenncontrol or one of the other major systems if you really want to educate people on modern control systems.

All very well until they give problems, then such systems are a complete disaster for maintenance. We've some old Thorn Explorer XP128 emergency lighting systems in work, we can't get parts and nobody wants to work at them. One control panel has died, rendering the emergency lighting setup unworkable, other than knocking breakers off.
