very well said.. the present of garbage can be put under control quite easily.. but shame on those people who is responsible for the Area hygiene.. the KL greater authority should do something about this place and area quickly and soon..

    Reality explained :
    1. It is on private property belonging to the temple committee. In fact the parent temple is situated near chinatown.
    2. It is still a working temple. Tourists forgot that. They just open their gates for people to see it.
    3. Yes it is trashy after a festival eg ponggal, thaipusam, diwali etc etc. But they will slowly clear it. Sometimes there are 300 tonnes of garbage after a major religious festival. Please give time to clear.
    4. The monkeys and tourists are not practicing responsible tourism (of course not)
    5. I know the stalls and ferris wheel should not be inside the temple, but how else can they generate income? They do not charge entry to main temples. Relying on donation is not enough for maintaining the huge area.
As a local, I understand those challenges. But they do need to add many rubbish bins. Have cleaners to clear it.

      Thanks for the great info!
For me personally, I would prefer the area (or temple committee) to focus on two things. 1) The natural beauty of the caves/limestone mountains, 2) the religious significance of the temples. It's such a shame what they have done inside the caves with bright flashing lights and stalls everywhere.
Outside the caves, I understand it's personal opinion. But for me, I think you can supplement the area with better suited amenities for tourists than what is currently there. Currently, it looks very tacky and trashy, and it takes away from a natural and cultural wonder. But again, that's just my opinion. 😉

There's a reason they're building an escalator as an alternative! 😉

Thanks, was considering this when I go in June; not sure I like the look of it now. Such a shame it’s been turned into that.

Yeah, sadly I was really disappointed. The actual geography of the place is incredible - would be great if Malaysian/Hindu leaders can restore the area somewhat.
