Sounds great. Preach on about raising the tension to get more low end: Without fail, when I want more low end from my kick, what works is tightening the lugs 1/8 of a turn.

Yeah I've seen these "speaker-mics" DIY style before in studios, pretty cool showcase. That tuning trick was awesome by the way!

I built my own in an antique loudspeaker case and it looks dope and sounds great. Just buy a speaker, figure out a way to mount it and wire it to an XLR in reverse with an attenuator (pad) to make the signal not peak with 0 gain.

Pretty impressive how good the moon mic is keeping the bleed from other parts of the kit out of the mic. My friends and I always wired a speaker backwards to use as a sub kick mic and it actually works great, this moon reminds me of that in some ways.

Thanks for demonstrating the effectiveness of this mic on the floor tom as well! Awesome demo with full mix / no moon mic / isolated moon mic - very helpful

I don't own a moon mic But I own 2 lofreqs from Solomon mics
One on the kick and the other on the bottom of the floor tom
    Sub mics are frikkin awesome!

Thanks for mentioning the diy aspect of this mic ( speaker with a guitar cable soldered to it) it looks like a great product the moon mic, but i think its really important that people know just how easy these are to build for themselves, so big ups for mentioning that in a product showcase!

I'm not really a fan of subkicks for several reasons
    1) More stuff to set up in the session == more stuff that can go wrong
    2) Just like any double-micd source, two inputs mean you must be very aware of how the blend ends up phase wise(it''s not just flip it 180 and you should be good to go), there's micro adjustments and, hey, bare in mind, many times, the inside mic will have a specific pitch angle(say point towards the beater for example). All I'm saying is beneficial multimiking comes at a cost, it's not plug and play. Also I never seem to dial the low mids with these blends, that's because that's where the x-over usually happens.
    3) You may like the design(or not), I'm not judging, fact is you can't hide it as easy as other mics, that's why I love earthworks-style mics on toms for example. I looove MD421s on toms but gosh they are such an eye sore.
    4) I just never seem to miss anything with a D112 for more mellow stuff and a D6 for harder stuff, I get all the sub I need there.

It is cool looking and sounding package, but for the price that its sold for, Im quite happy with my DIY-sub mounted on a snarestand and put the money on more versatile mics! ✌️

    Hi,
cool stuff! It really adds a lot to the sound. But weirdly, I thought it sounded better under a floor tom, with the kick drum it was a bit too much for my taste. There the AKG alone sounded better.
And I also fear the day when live-sound engineers will start using these... Probably they will literally bring down the house.
    Good luck with everything!
    BR, M
