Interesting fact: the CFL or LCF (in Quebec) started its life as a rugby league that served rugby clubs in Canada. The first ever Grey Cup was awarded in 1909 to the Toronto Varisty Blues (which are still around as University of Toronto's main team).
Love watching the IFL. I don’t live near enough to a team to go to a game but they have all their games streamed to RUclips so it’s easy to always follow my Quad City Steamwheelers.
You forgot about the AAFC which ran from1946 to 1949. This league brought us the Browns and 49ers. There were some other short lived ones like the MFL that operated from 1935-40 and the AFL3 that survived from 1940-41.
The Arena Football League had a very good niche. Fans were on top of the field and it was exciting as teams were always in scoring position. Six of the eight players were required to play both ways, which kept cost down and the tickets affordable. Markets that could not support an NFL team, could support an arena team. One of the nice things was watching a good match up, then on the change of possession, you got to see the same match up with the roles reversed. When they got rid of the two way requirement and started putting teams in large markets with NFL teams things began to go downhill. Larger rosters and more teams meant higher costs and teams that were doing fine began to lose money, and teams that were just trying to break even began losing large amounts of money forcing them and the league to fold. They should have stuck with the original business plan.
I'm honestly interested in a remake of this or something in the aftermath of XFL 2.0, XFL 2.5, USFL 2.0, now the UFL, and all the new arena leagues (some of which have gone much, much, MUCH better than others). Also maybe including leagues missed in this video. Like even if it was super long ago, I'm surprised the AAFC wasn't mentioned, especially with KTO being a Browns fan.
@aaron4094 _ I was a huge USFL fan and attended many Philadelphia Stars games as a teenager. Walker was good, no doubt, but Kelvin Bryant from the Stars had a much bigger impact on the league (he led his team to all 3 championship games). And don’t forget Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Reggie White, Sam Mills, Bobby Hebert, etc.
I played in 3 of the leagues mentioned. The AFL, IFL, and LFA down in Mexico. Your assessment of the AFL and it’s issues was spot on. Love the videos man, keep it up 🙌🏼
I've always thought of the CFL being the harder leauge to play in. The field is bigger with less downs, and more defenders, there really is no run game to fall back on.
@@DoubeEdged7no the d-line is one yard off the ball but sacks and pressures are still very common, on punts and kickoffs a defender cannot be within 5 yards or closer to the returner upon the returner catching the ball or scooping it off the ground if they are it’s a penalty called “no yards”
If the AAFC of 1946-1949 was included, I would call it A Tier. It was not only the original league of two current NFL teams, the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers (and also the first versions of the Buffalo Bills and now Indianapolis Colts), but it forced the defending NFL champion the Cleveland Rams to relocate to Los Angeles, and broke pro football's color barrier after 20 years, while Paul Brown and his Cleveland team completely redefined the game as we know it.
@@howardbaxter2514 They said that about the AAF too. I disagree, an NFL partnership would be the ruin of the XFL as a unique product. they're better off working in parallel
@@hagamapama problem with the AAF is that a partnership with the NFL was their SOLE goal. The XFL needs to build an identity first, and then they can start negotiating about a partnership with the NFL.
I’ve been to arena games. I went to one in San Diego when they were the riptide. And I do follow the Arizona Rattlers and will be watching the new IFL expansion team in Prescott.
Oh yes, I remember the days of Frankfurt Galaxy so very fondly! It's what sparked my interest in Football (I'm from the Frankfurt area, so the Galaxy was originally literally the only game in town). That Kurt Warner was the Quarterback for Frankfurt's main rival Amsterdam goes to show that the quality of football on display wasn't too shabby either. So sad that they couldn't keep it going.
The XFL (2020) was the greatest start up league after the NFL in my opinion. The brilliant new code of football added a lot of excitement to the game. I also loved how it was presented. Watched every game until COVID killed it. The worst? The XFL (2001). I was 18 during the leagues inaugural season. Mixing wrestling culture with football was cringe enough without the bad teams with stupid names and uniforms.
As a TRUE FOOTBALL FAN I have attended many of these other Leagues Games. I went to many of those Sacrament Surge Games and I attended many IFL Games. WE NEED FOOTBALL ALL YEAR LONG.
There is a new European league called the European League of Football with some of the former NFL Europe names such as the Berlin Thunder, Frankfurt Galaxy, Hamburg Sea Devils, etc!!!
I honestly think the XFL could make an impact on professional sports and that's only because Vince McMahon is ruthless and he has a personal vendetta against the NFL. I wouldn't put it beneath him to scout high school kids and convincing them to sign with his league and bypass a top tier Division I-A school. With the outcry of student athletes complaining about compensation and the age restriction of the NFL, Vince would pounce on the opportunity
I remember going to not one, not two, but five AFL games, all of them with the Austin Wranglers during the second peak of the ArenaFL (the first being the early-mid 90s; I personally wouldn't call the late-90s to early-00s parts of the peaks). Still have a couple programs, inflatable boom sticks, jersey, and an AFL football signed by Wranglers players, coaching staff, and mascot. The last game I went to (that I have a program for at least) was the April 6th, 2007 game against the Utah Blaze where (after looking it up) they won 65-64. I loved the team and I genuinely loved the sport, just as much as I loved Austin sports at the time when the minor leagues were trying the city for a go. The Round Rock Express since '00, the Ice Bats since '96, and the Wranglers since '04, it was a magical time for American sports enthusiasts in 2000s Austin. Then the Great Recession came and the Wranglers and Ice Bats both died in '08 with the Express being sold from the Astros to the Rangers as Biggio retired and Oswalt was raring to leave. Now the Express were sold back to the Astros just as we learn the 'Stros were cheatin' and the best Austin has is the Texas Stars playing in Ceder Park (The team the Dallas Stars relocated from Iowa as opposed to the Ice Bats), an MLS team that nobody in the city really wanted, a USLC team that people only wanted if Usain Bolt was going to be on it, and a college football team whose ego and hubris is slowly but finally eating away at itself. Yet, the closest I could get to proper football in the last few years in Austin is the Outlaws of the Women's Football Alliance and the closest in Central Texas was the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football - which by the way, San Antonio, San Diego, and Orlando deserve their own football teams because those cities are absolutely hungry for the sport. Even though they were around for a few seasons, I miss the Wranglers. Cheap tickets, cheap concession, cheap venue, but the entertainment was top-notch. RIP Wranglers, '04-'08; RIP AFL 1987-2019.
I still think that some kind of Spring or Summer league could make it with the right management and Backing and the NFL really has proven that it does need a Developmental league.
The afl logo (not the arena football league one) you showed is actually for an Australian sport that’s really popular Aussie rules football I know I’m late but it might make an interesting video
You forgot the AAFC which had 3 of its teams admitted to the NFL. The 49ers come from it (going to 2 championships in the AAFC), the Browns game from it (winning all 4 AAFC titles) and the Original (1950) Baltimore Colts came from it.
The AFL always felt like a cool thing for me growing up and I thought that it would still be around today. I watched the Austin Wranglers when they existed and even had an AFL football that I would throw around with my dad. Sadly I never noticed the Wranglers folding as I turned all my football attention to the NCAA and NFL the more I think back on it
I'm from Kentucky and we had the Lexington/Kentucky Horsemen who were a fairly popular minor league indoor team that played in Rupp Arena. Jared Lorenzen played for them after he was cut by the Giants and Colts. They bounced around leagues before getting to AF2. They would've probably gotten all the way to the Arena League, but the team folded after the 08 recession. I went to several games and they were actually really fun.
I did follow my local arena team well as they’re the only pro team in town. However, that is the IFL, not AFL, which is actually expanding really well right now.
Being that you are a Browns fan(some am I, born and raised there), where would you place the old All America Football Conference where the original Browns (now Ravens) and 49ers originated before merging into the NFL in 1950. Could you do a video on that conference? The NFL refused to allow a very solid Buffalo Bisons/Bills franchise move over from the AAFC. That Buffalo franchise would have been a better choice than the weak Baltimore Colts franchise that moved to the NFL in 1950 along with the Browns and 49ers. The Baltimore franchise folded after one season in the NFL. That decision came back to haunt the NFL when the AFL formed and another Bills franchise arose. Great video.
The "F" grade for the World Football League is correct, but the "F" should stand for "Frickin Awesome"! I LOVED the WFL. Wild, wacky, weird team names, and a smattering of big-time players. It was a lot of fun.
I had an internship with the Indiana Firebirds of the AFL the year Steve DeBerg took over as coach. He thought that since it was a passing league, and he was a passing guru, he could come right in and dominate. He went 0-5 and was fired. The Firebirds put former FSU QB Adrian McPherson in the starting lineup behind interim HC and AFL veteran Mike Wilpolt. McPherson was Rookie of the Year and the team nearly made the playoffs, going 8-3 under Wilpolt. McPherson was then drafted by the New Orleans Saints. The team looked promising for the next year and I was hopeful to land a permanent job with the team, but the owner, who made his money owning a chain of Hooters restaurants in Florida, decided he wanted to sell the team...on eBay. All of this took place near the league's peak; they had expanded several teams like the Philadelphia soul under Ron Jaworski and Jon Bon Jovi and the Colorado Crush under John Elway. These guys had paid something like $10 to $15 million a team to enter the league. The Firebirds sold on eBay to local investors for just a few million. The owners didn't feel like this was fair, so they rejected the sale and the team folded. My two favorite memories from that season were watching Phil Mickelson win his long-awaited first major with the team in the locker room after the game, and also catching a football during the game. The AFL was famous for telling fans "you get to keep the ball", as the NFL was notorious for making fans give stray balls back. The tight nets made sure that several balls a game went astray. Against Carolina, which was quarterbacked by currents Bears coach Matt Nagy, I caught and kept a ball from a kickoff. That ball was kicked by Rob Bironas (rest in peace), who as a Tennessee Titan, set the all-time record for field goals in a game (8). Needless to say I was really invested in the team and the league. But once the Firebirds were gone, I just walked away. Too bitter of a taste in my mouth for losing the team.
Say what you want but the AAF was great for the price and I managed to see Trent Richardson and Blake Sims play again for the Birmingham Iron. Love to see some Alabama alumni that I grew up watching.
Best out of all, but here’s the issue: The XFL doesn’t get money from FOX or ESPN. With baseball season and NHL playoffs those ratings are at risk of dropping, and maybe even attendance. Let me breakdown some cities: Tampa will especially take a hit with the Rays being a playoff team last year, and probably competing for a playoff spot this year, and the Lightning playoff run. St Louis same as the Blues playoff run takes shape and we all know how popular the Cards are. They are NL central division contenders. There is only 1 city that could do well: Seattle, as the Mariners are the same ol’ uninspired Mariners. The XFL chose the wrong cities to put teams in. They should’ve chose San Diego and Baltimore, for instance. Cities with bad baseball teams, that need sports in the spring to get addicted to before they see their, one, a rebuilding home run giving squad (Orioles). The other, a possibly mediocre to good but not good enough team (Padres).
@@sawyertuide7636 good points, but the XFL season ends a week after the NHL playoffs start and just a few weeks after the MLB opening day. I agree that some teams may take some hits in ratings and ticket sales but I don't believe it will be too substantial. Also Vince McMahon agreed to fund the league with $500 million for three years with his own money
Don't forget the AAFC. The Browns, 49ers, and Colts started there and merged with the NFL in 1950. They were in operation for 4 years, with the Browns winning every championship.

expanded too fast in poor regions (poor in terms of fan base not wealth), they should have focused on markets closer to the border and passionate fan base I give you a wild example ..... Fargo ! yes they have a great dome and they're passionate and will never be part of the NFL, XFL 3.0....USLF 2.0 ....
Interesting fact: the CFL or LCF (in Quebec) started its life as a rugby league that served rugby clubs in Canada. The first ever Grey Cup was awarded in 1909 to the Toronto Varisty Blues (which are still around as University of Toronto's main team).
XFL was smart to bring football back to St Louis they should do the same for Oakland
Sa Nu'u where would they play?

The same goes for San Diego too

Love watching the IFL. I don’t live near enough to a team to go to a game but they have all their games streamed to RUclips so it’s easy to always follow my Quad City Steamwheelers.
yo congrats pls beat the Wranglers (Rattlers fan)
My two favorite sport youtuber making a collab, my dream came true
You forgot about the AAFC which ran from1946 to 1949. This league brought us the Browns and 49ers. There were some other short lived ones like the MFL that operated from 1935-40 and the AFL3 that survived from 1940-41.
I miss the Arena League and hope it comes back watching it on TV was always fun
Most of the teams in arena football went to indoor football league because it going to be bankrupt and some teams had arguments with owner of AFL
8:30 My dad told me about that play growing up since he was at that game. Thats the first time I'd ever seen it.
Jim Kelly was a god in the USFL before finally joining Buffalo.
Chris Taroni he may have been good but Herschel walker is undoubtedly the best to ever play in the usfl

No
Reggie White, Steve Young, Jim Kelly
So were Reggie White, Steve Young, and Herschel Walker
@aaron4094 _ I was a huge USFL fan and attended many Philadelphia Stars games as a teenager. Walker was good, no doubt, but Kelvin Bryant from the Stars had a much bigger impact on the league (he led his team to all 3 championship games). And don’t forget Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Reggie White, Sam Mills, Bobby Hebert, etc.
I watch both of your videos and I’m glad you guys collaborated
I played in 3 of the leagues mentioned. The AFL, IFL, and LFA down in Mexico. Your assessment of the AFL and it’s issues was spot on. Love the videos man, keep it up 🙌🏼
I've always thought of the CFL being the harder leauge to play in. The field is bigger with less downs, and more defenders, there really is no run game to fall back on.
Linemen are 5 yards away each other
@@DoubeEdged7no the d-line is one yard off the ball but sacks and pressures are still very common, on punts and kickoffs a defender cannot be within 5 yards or closer to the returner upon the returner catching the ball or scooping it off the ground if they are it’s a penalty called “no yards”
KTO used my video at 0:13 I am honored.
I was a founding season ticket holder of the Baltimore Brigade all three years they played in the AFL. I hope they return in another league

The centre afl logo is from Australian Football which is much different to Gridion/American Football
I went to a New York Dragons game for my 10th birthday. I got a free football and took a picture with cheerleaders on the field before the game.
I think the new XFL could make B tier at best... Still some flaws. Great job with Set the Edge man.
If done properly, it could work in collaboration with the NFL.
It failed due to corona.
I’ve been to arena games. I went to one in San Diego when they were the riptide. And I do follow the Arizona Rattlers and will be watching the new IFL expansion team in Prescott.
HELL YES waiting for this collab!
I’m glad you got Set the Edge on here, dude is a stud, I love his videos. Cool to see you guys collaborating.
The last clip of a KTO video always brings a shiver down my spine. These are really mini documentaries.
Still own my Philadelphia Soul hat
Went to a few games
KTO and Set the Edge was a collaboration I didn’t know I needed. Love both channels.

First. love the videos thank u for uploading all the time
The AFL always felt like a cool thing for me growing up and I thought that it would still be around today. I watched the Austin Wranglers when they existed and even had an AFL football that I would throw around with my dad. Sadly I never noticed the Wranglers folding as I turned all my football attention to the NCAA and NFL the more I think back on it
Missed the AAFL that gave the Browns and 49ers among others
As a 49ers fan living in Northern Ireland I'm eternally grateful to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers for avenging our loss in Superbowl LIV 🏈🇬🇧🇺🇸😂😢
I went to a Chicago Rush game when the AFL was around, really fun
I was just on your channel wondering when you would upload 🤣
I'm from Kentucky and we had the Lexington/Kentucky Horsemen who were a fairly popular minor league indoor team that played in Rupp Arena. Jared Lorenzen played for them after he was cut by the Giants and Colts. They bounced around leagues before getting to AF2. They would've probably gotten all the way to the Arena League, but the team folded after the 08 recession. I went to several games and they were actually really fun.
What if "KTO made what if" videos. 🤣🤣🤣
I did follow my local arena team well as they’re the only pro team in town. However, that is the IFL, not AFL, which is actually expanding really well right now.
Sorry, USFL was head and shoulders above the ‘F’ and ‘D’ tiers. It was seriously good with ex NFL household names and Superstar players
As an Australian fan me
Seeing the AFL (middle of screen) and thinking this man don’t release AFL is Aussie Rules
i am not an aussie and I always think of Footy when they bring AFL to the table
The "F" grade for the World Football League is correct, but the "F" should stand for "Frickin Awesome"! I LOVED the WFL. Wild, wacky, weird team names, and a smattering of big-time players. It was a lot of fun.
the only problem I see with the XFL is people like me who just watch highlights not the live game
Went to a Georgia Force game with my buddies for my 7th birthday party, the AFL was awesome while it lasted
I had just started watching the Arena league just before they folded
You forgot the All-American Football Conference from 1946-49. The Browns and 49ers merged into the NFL from that old league.
NFL Europe has a current successor in the ELF.
You did miss one: the All American Football Conference (1946-1949), the league that gave us the Browns, 49ers and Colts.
This XFL seems to have some similarities with the USFL. And they know what not to do.
The XFL is back and the USFL is back
Say what you want but the AAF was great for the price and I managed to see Trent Richardson and Blake Sims play again for the Birmingham Iron. Love to see some Alabama alumni that I grew up watching.
XFL 2020 Will Be A S Tier
The jusice Leauge s tier is the best tier dude
Best out of all, but here’s the issue: The XFL doesn’t get money from FOX or ESPN. With baseball season and NHL playoffs those ratings are at risk of dropping, and maybe even attendance. Let me breakdown some cities:
Tampa will especially take a hit with the Rays being a playoff team last year, and probably competing for a playoff spot this year, and the Lightning playoff run.
I think they will be A or B but there’s a good chance it could get s
Sawyer92 well they will get money after the first 3 years so I think they will be able to stay afloat with the popularity of the league
I’ve never been to an AFL game but my dad was a team doctor for one of those semi-pro arena league teams
