  • This is a video of me showing you how to use a tiller. It is a full tutorial and I show you all of the basic things that are involved in using a tiller. I show you how to start it, make the tines spin, make it dig in one spot, turn it to the right or left, and shut it off.

    I must be the only guy in the world that uses a tiller by moving it in reverse. I’ve had the best results that way. Going forward I’m only able to scratch the surface but pulling it in reverse while it fights to go forward has really worked for a deeper dig.

    • @yousifsaid5
      @yousifsaid5 4 года назад +4

      I like using it in reverse as well. I even yank it while tilting up and it digs really deep really fast

      I was thinking that I was the only one.
      And I am left handed so apparently I do everything backwards anyway.

      I came to youtube to see how your suposed to use them because pulling it "backwards" felt so wrong, it works so well though, I watch everyone use theirs on the allotments and then look at the tilths and think i must be the only one here that gets how to use them, it doesn't get excited and start jumping on the first couple passes either and takes far less time to work your ground overall too,
      I thought you were meant to drag them like a plough so that's what I been doing but nobody else did it and it was starting to make me think I was being a tool

    A friend picked up and old 1970s Roto Tiller and it had an old trusty Briggs and Stratton 3.5 classic on it , and what the previous owner did was take the muffler off and put a 5 inch bent pipe in there 🎉 , the Tiller works wonders but you can hear it along ways off, it's a belt drive system too, but works great 👍

    The ground you are tilling looks very similar to mine, hard and compacted. I saw a few other tutorials that recommend pickaxing first and removing the unwanted growth, but I thought that was the whole idea of tilling, to NOT have to do that. How did you remove the churned up unwanted grass and weeds to ensure it didn't grow back?

    • @danielkluegel9352
      @danielkluegel9352 4 года назад +2

      Depending on your soil you don't have to pick it all the way down but scalping the grass off is preferable. If you leave grass it's kind of a constant battle the first season to keep it from coming back.

What do you think would be the problem. Please can you help. I cant go back to the shop where i bought the tyler because that was abroad. Thank you.

    • @ninemilliondollars
      @ninemilliondollars 4 года назад

      Don't know your brand. Smaller tillers don't rely on wheels when tilling, only for moving. For example, one tiller has a wheel in the from, like a wheelbarrow, to move it from one place to another in the yard while the engine is off. When preparing to till, the wheel is rotated up and out of the way, leaving the tiller to ride on the tines. In the video, it didn't state correctly that the pin in the rear is really a drag bar, It's used to set the depth and to slow the tiller down when more of the weight of the tiller is put on it. Also, not in this video, because of the type of tiller shown, it's best to have a tiller where you can adjust the handle bars to no higher than your waste. That enables you to have more leverage when pushing down or pulling up. As for your accelerator, and not knowing the brand, sounds like it's bogging down. Perhaps it is not getting the correct amount of fuel - carb is dirty - or your depth is too deep and you're grabbing too much soil. Go higher/lighter with more passes. Best I can tell you.
