- This is a video of me showing you how to use a tiller. It is a full tutorial and I show you all of the basic things that are involved in using a tiller. I show you how to start it, make the tines spin, make it dig in one spot, turn it to the right or left, and shut it off.

Great basic tutorial. Thanks for not assuming that viewers know that much as first-time users. Nice job and super helpful!
I must be the only guy in the world that uses a tiller by moving it in reverse. I’ve had the best results that way. Going forward I’m only able to scratch the surface but pulling it in reverse while it fights to go forward has really worked for a deeper dig.
I like using it in reverse as well. I even yank it while tilting up and it digs really deep really fast
I was thinking that I was the only one.
And I am left handed so apparently I do everything backwards anyway.
Yes in reverse is the way!
Reverse way also assures you're not stepping
/Packing down the work u just did
I came to youtube to see how your suposed to use them because pulling it "backwards" felt so wrong, it works so well though, I watch everyone use theirs on the allotments and then look at the tilths and think i must be the only one here that gets how to use them, it doesn't get excited and start jumping on the first couple passes either and takes far less time to work your ground overall too,
I thought you were meant to drag them like a plough so that's what I been doing but nobody else did it and it was starting to make me think I was being a tool
8 years old and obviously still the best video on how to control a rotavator. I skimmed through 6 or 7 videos before finding this one. A true gem in the dirt, thank you.
This made me confident to start my yard project, great info with no useless filler. Straight to the point! Thank you so much for being so clear, well spoken, and concise!!!! This is exactly what I needed!!
Very good useful video Thanks
Never used a tiller/rotovator and this tutorial is straight to the point and gives all the essential information required to use one. Thanks, a great help!
Thanks
Very informative, just what I needed as an intro for a garden prep project. Thank you.
Super charming tutorial. Love this guy’s easy demeanor. Great content, too. Very helpful.
I haven't used a rototiller in 30 years and needed a refresher course for the new rototiller I ordered. This was very helpful, thank you!
Amazing guide. I like that you kept it simple and didn't just expect me to know anything about it. Even going as far as to explain how to start it. A+
Dummed it down very well. What I needed. Thanks!
Good and immediately to the point! No long talking or unboxing. Thanks.
Fantastic!! Thank you for showing it running long enough to see how hard it jumps around. Very helpful!
Thank you very much. I just bought a tiller, it is of a different brand, a 2020 model, easier to start. Your guidance is valued. Thank you.
Nicely done, the basics clearly explained. Thank you! Nice camera and editing work, too.
Thank you for taking the time to record this. Very easy to understand.

Thank you for the simplicity of using a tiller. Well done!
Awesome video!!!! Very clear and to the point. AND, super clear video quality.
Thanks heaps for posting. How would one of these go for a rocky, clay type soil?
Thank you very much! Grew up on a multi generation farm and my Pa would always get mad when the tiller wouldn't move forward for me. Never could keep it from digging its own hole lol I'll try this out
Amazing job explaining. Very clear, short simple and informative 👍🏼👍🏼
This guy is awesome!!!! I wish he had a video for every tool or anything!!!
Thanks for this video. I was not able to control the tiller. The instruction about control helped me complete the work.

Thanks from Puerto Rico! :)
No problem from Toronto!!!!!
Great video!!! Very simple and informative. One last thing..... You sound like "Elie Seckbach" the boxing journalist. Thanks for the video.
Super demo! Thanks!
Thank you for such amazing tutorial
This is just what I was looking for. I have to use a rototiller for the first time tmrw, so now I can at least look like I know what I'm doing lol
I hope it went well for you. I'm doing the same thing today and am apprehensive about it
@@dannyd1572 it went great, it's really easy, nothing hard about it. I let my nerves get the best of me, just go slow and steady and let the tool do the work.
@@CtheG420 THanks! Got it done. Old rototiller so the wheels (tubeless) fell off twice! Had to get a ratchet strap, squish them, and air them up. So, I learned a neat trick. Tilling was tiring. My body and arms hurt last night. LOL
I am just searching for one now for our alotments to save some time and me and my wife's back. My only advice from swapping to petrol from electrical that they can be powerful as f..... For ex my petrol strimmer can cut with string through things that electrical was not even able to score. I am open to suggestions about with one you advice us to buy...under 200 pounds.
I always rototill my dirt in my socks lol very thorough 👍
Great tutorial, thanks!
Excellent instructions
That was spot on. Thanks man
Thanks. I have to try my hand at a tiller tomorrow for the first time to break up the sod in my lawn and level it out. Wish me luck!
This is awesome thank you.
Great How To Video!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video thanks!
Very helpful and explanatory
what's type of gas this tiller use. is this tiller use 2 cycle gas mixed like ( trimmer ) or just gasoline use with lawn mower ( push mowers ). Thanks you
A friend picked up and old 1970s Roto Tiller and it had an old trusty Briggs and Stratton 3.5 classic on it , and what the previous owner did was take the muffler off and put a 5 inch bent pipe in there 🎉 , the Tiller works wonders but you can hear it along ways off, it's a belt drive system too, but works great 👍
Great video and info. New Subie and Supporter 👍🤩
Thank you!!! First timer tomorrow
well done! thank you!
Been using and electric one for 3 years now but it's not as heavy as the gas motor ones so had to put weights on it to get depth and it's much quieter.
As a first-time homeowner, equipment like this scares me. I dont have anyone to teach me, so i was so happy to get such a clear explanation on YT with no filler or absurd dubstep intermissions.
Thank you!
Very helpful!
Great video👍🏼👌
Helpful af
Simple, straight and to the point. Thank you!
The ground you are tilling looks very similar to mine, hard and compacted. I saw a few other tutorials that recommend pickaxing first and removing the unwanted growth, but I thought that was the whole idea of tilling, to NOT have to do that. How did you remove the churned up unwanted grass and weeds to ensure it didn't grow back?
I wish that your question had been answered.
I think you have to remove the grass first or at least that’s what I was told.
Depending on your soil you don't have to pick it all the way down but scalping the grass off is preferable. If you leave grass it's kind of a constant battle the first season to keep it from coming back.
Great video 👍
Great, great, great job explaining. No extra personal shit and thorough explanation of the machine. GOOD JOB!
Great video.
thank you :D
Thanks!
Thank you!
I have small rocks in the area. Will the tiller cause the rocks to spit back out at my legs?
Thanks my dude 🙏
What that yellow part next to the gas where you put in is it oil I haven't started a tiller on by myself before but I put gas in multiple spots but I should of put something else now gonna have to put something different in where the yellow part at it looks like a oil can sign though I messed up today but haven't started it yet my brother is gonna help me.
Thank you
Thanks do you explain very well but you’re missing one things what kind of oil we will using for that?
Wow thank you!
Well explained. Just one thing: what brand and what model?
Do these work on roots or will it stall the machine? I have a big property I just bought that is overgrown with vines and thorny plants. Some of the roots are 1-1.5 inches in diameter
What model of rotavator is it as I would like same model
What's the name of that depth thing in the back? How should I use it?
Thank you friend
excellent
Thanks a lot
Dummed it down barney style, thank you 👍
Thanks 😊
Thank you. 🙂
Thank you so much although I’m not using this for “normal plant things” I’m using it to help dig a mud pit so I can take mud baths in my own backyard (hopefully my parents don’t mind as their mature teenager rolls in the mud) lol if they find out that’s gonna be interesting explaining
thanks
Thanks for this video - I'm about to rent one of these bad boys and till my front yard to get rid of lumps and clumps, and hopefully get some nice grass growing there. The back yard is going to be full of vegetables, probably raised beds but I'm going to till it anyway to allow the roots to freely grow. Oh, and I'll be wearing boots! Cheers from Massachusetts!!!
thank you
Good video mate. What’s the horse power on the tiller?
Hi
My tyler is smaller than yours and its making too much noise and in my hand i have a handle accelerator if i dont keep pressing it will stop, also the weels dont turn to turn the soil and its first time for me to use. What do you think would be the problem. Please can you help. I cant go back to the shop where i bought the tyler because that was abroad. Thank you.
Don't know your brand. Smaller tillers don't rely on wheels when tilling, only for moving. For example, one tiller has a wheel in the from, like a wheelbarrow, to move it from one place to another in the yard while the engine is off. When preparing to till, the wheel is rotated up and out of the way, leaving the tiller to ride on the tines. In the video, it didn't state correctly that the pin in the rear is really a drag bar, It's used to set the depth and to slow the tiller down when more of the weight of the tiller is put on it. Also, not in this video, because of the type of tiller shown, it's best to have a tiller where you can adjust the handle bars to no higher than your waste. That enables you to have more leverage when pushing down or pulling up. As for your accelerator, and not knowing the brand, sounds like it's bogging down. Perhaps it is not getting the correct amount of fuel - carb is dirty - or your depth is too deep and you're grabbing too much soil. Go higher/lighter with more passes. Best I can tell you.
Thanks
well xplain'd
Thank you Dr Peterson you saved my yard
