  • From the start of the automotive age, safety was a concern. In the days before seat belts, airbags, crumple zones, well marked cross walks it was dangerous for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. Safety campaigns started to launch public education efforts to reduce the carnage.

Well, considering this Safety Notice was made 80 years ago, I think it was pretty darn good. It made a strong message which highlighted the potential mistakes of the day. It's not so different to-day as it's the need to pay attention to other road users , not just yourself. Cars are much safer now, but pedestrians are still just as vunerable.

There's no such thing as an unsafe car. It's an unsafe driver.

Just looked it up--in 2017 the fatality rate in the US was 1.2 deaths per million miles driven--in 1935 it was over 14!

No sound. I think the sound track was separated from the film and lost. But the graphics carry the message.

Same here. I wish the images of the cars were clearer, but good video with an important message that still applies today. There was a lot of traffic back n those days, just like now.

Damn good video! Things aren't' much different today. I like the idea of putting up those signs where people have been killed. There's a shock factor there that might wake up people and force them to be more careful, both drivers and pedestrians. You could show this video today in classrooms.

Boy the lack of safety in those days must have been staggering!! People in their Cars make their own lane as they drive, probably cutting into each others path. People crossing the roads without any warnings or regarless of safety, and so on and on...😳
