Thanks for all you do Dave and a Happy new year to you and your brood.Here is an odd case from northwest Indiana about 60 miles north of my home place.MISSING:July 5th 2015 from Gary,Indiana, 1Female,Diamond Bynum age 21,Male King Walker age 2 yrs Relationship:Aunt and nephew Diamond was diagnosed with Prader Wili. synd.and walked with a limp and also obese.They lived with their grandmother Grandmother stated she lay down for a nap mid morning woke up around noon and they were gone Still missing as of today.This was within 2miles maybe closer to the Calumet rver system and a few miles from the shores of Lake Michigan.
Praying for you, Dave. I know that the circumstances that you are reporting are so close to what you have dealt with during your life with your precious son. I am praying for you. God bless your comings and your goings.
I've hiked that loop. I remember the spot she disappeared at, it's a pretty big scattered rock face and I nearly lost the trail a few times on a calm clear day. If she never hiked that trail before and strayed from it in snowy wind, then it would be nearly impossible to find the trail again. It's definitely the most dangerous part of that hike as well, I remember losing my footing at one point in that area and I slid down a big rock face, felt lucky that I wasn't hurt. This loop is consider the hardest part of the entire Appalachian Trail. Prayers to the family.

Fentanyl is a scourge of our world. It is pure poison and the country that sends us to kill our young people should be punished. I feel very sorry for your loss.
Dave, I have hiked on those trails. Hikers die on these trails often. Full winter gear is needed in November. Always very sad when an unprepared hiker looses their life in the White Mountains.
People aren't even allowed to do mountain climbing in Oregon and Washington in the winter. All our mountain passes are closed when it begins to be dangerous. It happens, that climbers lose their lives, but it's within the climbing season. Emily would probably be alive today, if she were here. Precautions are in place to protect people.
Every time you have a new video, it shows up in my feed. I don't know what RUclips is doing though, to others. But all you have to do is go into "subscriptions" and your videos will be there, for those not being notified.
Love your channel and your heart. Hard to believe this experienced intelligent hiker was so unprepared. But we are all human. And sadly, experience and failure are most often our best teachers. But when failure means death, it’s very sad. Hiking CO trails in 70 degrees is dangerous enough. A little dust between your hiking boots and a rock can send any hiker down and then it’s up to God whether or not you break your neck or your back. Every step is a prayer and you must respect it. Thank you Huck for chugging some water and helping to break the emotional heaviness. I needed that. Dog is love. Be safe out there everyone. And get prepared for this upcoming polar vortex. Why oh why do people persist in going up mountains when it's winter and bad weather is a distinct possibility ? What is the mindset that ignores the possibility of danger ? We get some deaths every year up in the hills in winter here in 🏴,but American wilderness is so huge it's scary
I have hiked this trail. Much of it you are stepping from rock to rock. I remember this event very well as I live in the area. She was TOTALLY unprepared. I was so upset her mother would let her attempt this in this extreme weather!

I live in this area, and have hiked this trail. I find it odd that Lafayette was at the end of her 48 peaks, and she was unprepared. She’d have already summitted Mt. Washington, Cannon, etc. She would have experienced that temps are always 20* lower up top. She’d have known about wind chill. I can only guess that many of her earlier climbs were a breeze, which they can be. She may not have felt she ever could have been in danger. Folks, never be ashamed to turn around. This same mountain claimed another seasoned hiker this past year.😢

Mount Washington in the White Mountains has the highest winds recorded on Earth at 231 mph. It is notorious for unpredictable weather and dangerous hiking conditions. Also it recently (2023) had the record low windchill temperature of −108 °F. As of 2019, more than 161 people had died in the Presidential range.
Dave, I want you to know. You're a major inspiration in my life the last 2 or 3 years, I'm a better person because of you and that's a FACT. You've shown me a different way of looking at life and the inspiration to make changes for my own well being and in turn those around me. I can tell sometimes that you're struggling with something and I think you tend to be too hard on yourself when you're in that place, please know that YOU matter and you ARE making a difference. Weather is NOT weather. I lived for decades in Vermont. Once got disoriented fighting my way through a blizzard from garage to house. Winter weather in NH, far more perilous.

I’ve hiked the mt. Washington loop . Used to do it every summer for a number of years. That mountain truly has one of the most volatile and shifty weather anywhere. You can’t be careful enough up there.

Dave I have watched everyone of your videos from day one. Love the channel. I live in NE Nebraska. A farmer/rancher. Myhusband of almost 50 years and I are out side doing chores and taking care of livestock no matter the weather. No matter the weather our animals come first. Chores get done before we go in the house to take care of ourselves. The cold temps are heading here as well. We live on the edge of the Nebraska sand hills. When we are baling on the fields of native prairie hay in the summer it is wide open with thousands of acres. Through the years my husband has seen the dancing lights on the horizon. We also live on the edge of the Ogalalla Aquifer. So I get it why not many disappearances in Nebraska. Take care

David , so thankful for your kind heart . This was truly a tough one to listen to - very well narrated which made it all the more gripping. Such a giving , talented , intelligent young lady , full of joy and a desire to help others . I don’t know why she went up on such a super cold , windy day - I wonder if that drive to have it done on her birthday pushed her ? She sounds like she didn’t have thick enough clothing for that weather . Just so very heart breaking - oh I wish this would’ve had a happy ending . I did think of one of the strange aspects of these 411 cases you and others have pointed out - the reoccurring detail of evil names and disappearances . The body was found on a Mt. named Lafayette , at the entrance ( head waters) of a stream named Lafayette. Lafayette the fae or the fairies is the French word for the fairies / elves. Mountain of fairies ( elves /demons) , most native Americans believe evil spirits dwell at the mouth of springs . Just makes me wonder . Or it just may have been the terrible weather - that comment by the corner sure did sound cryptic
With all the dangers in this world with evil people, I wouldn't even allow my daughter to walk in the woods, let alone scale a mountain, I feel so sorry for her parents and pray that they can get through this you never get over losing a child. I buried my son in 2016.
The story was unf tragic young lady loosing her life. But I have to change the tempo. When huck started drinking and you looked down I thought I was going to fall out laughing. Sometimes things have a way of providing relief. When I buried my mother a chipmunk stopped us in the middle of the road and had us all laughing

She appears to be extremely well trained to just lay there when you are showing her. She is always so calm. Tell her she is doing a great job! The emotion that you show in your videos shows that you care about the missing people and your advice probably has saved lives and saved many from going missing. I have not had any problem with my subscription and when you release a new video it is always in the number 2 spot when I turn on RUclips. I also hate the ads and they come in the worst times and much too frequently. I will be looking forward to watching you this year and also enjoy your factual news. Keep up the great work!!!
This was hard to watch ! I used to spend a lot of time outdoors in the winter only got too cold once . It got a little dicey and I had warm clothes on . For Gods sake people be prepared when you go out ! God Bless you if this saves one life you’ve done a Great Service!
Happy new year everyone, always buy a survival pack with upwards of 80 pieces . My wife got me one , will I ever use it . Hopefully not , but if I go hunting anywhere in the mountains I will definitely have it on me , comes with all sorts of things . Military shovel ,fishing line hooks lure, fire starter , slow burning fire , wick , survival blanket , compasses 3 knives , one of them survival steel cards , first aid , I put my own lighter in there I think it actually came with one , flash light , lantern , it's pretty damn cool ! And the bag is awsome the straps on the bag can be tore apart and used as rope , there's a broclet that can be used as rope, has a fishing spear/knife that is used with the shovel, this bag is probably 12" x 7" x 8" ... ABSOLUTELY could help save you're life. Supposedly has parachute rope in it as well. But a homemade parachute is not recommended 😂
It doesn't matter how smart you are, common sense was lacking and got her self killed. No knowledge on the territory, no locator, no planning with equipment, no partner, and just plain oblivious. And finally, putting search and rescue in harms way.

My prayers are with the Schelo family as they try to cope with the tragic and untimely loss of their daughter. May they be granted peace going forward. Older sisters have a great influence on younger siblings and I'm sure her younger sister is well deserving of prayers also.

My husband went to kids summer camp at Pemigewassett in the late ‘40’s. He said it was beautiful in the summer. I can’t imagine being there in the winter, underdressed for conditions. May her family find comfort🙏🏼
Dave and fellow villagers, here we are into 2025. Wow! Being born in the 1950s, this is stunning to me. Yet no matter the day, I seek kindness everywhere I go. To give and receive kindness can save us all. My prayer is our country and the world. Remember this while there is still time to do so. Dave, this young lady sounds like an amazing young woman. My heart aches for her family's loss. The deep ache felt at moments like this take a long time to recover from. We all have our own experiences with a moment of loss like this. Now to a conversation about packing for a hike anywhere, any time of the year. My motto is better safe than sorry, so I carry more than I need, just in case. Dave you have encouraged everyone who hikes to be prepared. My father was the same way. On even the nicest day the weather can turn, I'm conscious of that on every outing I take. Plus carrying a backpack is something I always want to be in shape for. So every outing I go on my pack is with me. I'm praying all of the Villagers here today are well. That our united front has a big impact on the people around us. The kindness revolution can and hopefully grows even bigger and stronger in 2025! God bless all of you.
My only question is , like you said , when the weather started deteriorating and by the tracks they found off trail - why did she keep going ...up ? Why didn't she turn around and start heading back down ? Altitude sickness , cold , wind ....combined to disorient her ? I can't imagine what she and her mom ( family ) went through and I'm so very sorry ...I pray God brings comfort and strength . She sounds like a wonderful young woman and this world is a little dimmer without her light !!!

I live in New Hampshire and remember this case well. My husband and I snowmobile in northern New Hampshire and have been caught in some bad weather. It changes on a dime and it can be snowing with poor visibility on one side of a slope and the sun is out on the other side. Heartbreaking story.

People aren't even allowed to do mountain climbing in Oregon and Washington in the winter. All our mountain passes are closed when it begins to be dangerous. It happens, that climbers lose their lives, but it's within the climbing season. Emily would probably be alive today, if she were here. Precautions are in place to protect people.

Love your channel and your heart. Hard to believe this experienced intelligent hiker was so unprepared. But we are all human. And sadly, experience and failure are most often our best teachers. But when failure means death, it’s very sad. Hiking CO trails in 70 degrees is dangerous enough. A little dust between your hiking boots and a rock can send any hiker down and then it’s up to God whether or not you break your neck or your back. Every step is a prayer and you must respect it. Thank you Huck for chugging some water and helping to break the emotional heaviness. I needed that. Dog is love. Be safe out there everyone. And get prepared for this upcoming polar vortex. Why oh why do people persist in going up mountains when it's winter and bad weather is a distinct possibility ? What is the mindset that ignores the possibility of danger ? We get some deaths every year up in the hills in winter here in 🏴,but American wilderness is so huge it's scary
In many states, that's not even possible, like in the Northwest, we close our mountain passes. There is a climbing season.

I have hiked this trail. Much of it you are stepping from rock to rock. I remember this event very well as I live in the area. She was TOTALLY unprepared. I was so upset her mother would let her attempt this in this extreme weather!

This blows my mind. This mountain is risky even in the best weather. I've had friends and family hike this loop with little preparation and I'm shocked they were all okay. So Incredibly sad

I live in this area, and have hiked this trail. I find it odd that Lafayette was at the end of her 48 peaks, and she was unprepared. She’d have already summitted Mt. Washington, Cannon, etc. She would have experienced that temps are always 20* lower up top. She’d have known about wind chill. I can only guess that many of her earlier climbs were a breeze, which they can be. She may not have felt she ever could have been in danger. Folks, never be ashamed to turn around. This same mountain claimed another seasoned hiker this past year.😢

Even if I am only expecting a few hours of ranging the wilderness, I always have a locater, compass, thermal blanket, my K-BAR, canteen, and energy snacks. I think it is wise to keep clean socks as well.

Also it recently (2023) had the record low windchill temperature of −108 °F. As of 2019, more than 161 people had died in the Presidential range.

Weather is NOT weather. I lived for decades in Vermont. Once got disoriented fighting my way through a blizzard from garage to house. Winter weather in NH, far more perilous.

I’ve hiked the mt. Washington loop . Used to do it every summer for a number of years. That mountain truly has one of the most volatile and shifty weather anywhere.

Dave I have watched everyone of your videos from day one. Love the channel. I live in NE Nebraska. A farmer/rancher. Myhusband of almost 50 years and I are out side doing chores and taking care of livestock no matter the weather. No matter the weather our animals come first. Chores get
done before we go in the house to take care of ourselves. The cold temps are heading here as well. We live on the edge of the Nebraska sand hills. When we are baling on the fields of native prairie hay in the summer it is wide open with thousands of acres. Through the years my husband has seen the dancing lights on the horizon.
We also live on the edge of the Ogalalla Aquifer. So I get it why not many disappearances in Nebraska. Take care

David , so thankful for your kind heart . This was truly a tough one to listen to - very well narrated which made it all the more gripping. Such a giving , talented , intelligent young lady , full of joy and a desire to help others . I don’t know why she went up on such a super cold , windy day - I wonder if that drive to have it done on her birthday pushed her ? She sounds like she didn’t have thick enough clothing for that weather . Just so very heart breaking - oh I wish this would’ve had a happy ending . I did think of one of the strange aspects of these 411 cases you and others have pointed out - the reoccurring detail of evil names and disappearances . The body was found on a Mt. named Lafayette , at the entrance ( head waters) of a stream named Lafayette. Lafayette the fae or the fairies is the French word for the fairies / elves. Mountain of fairies ( elves /demons) , most native Americans believe evil spirits dwell at the mouth of springs . Just makes me wonder . Or it just may have been the terrible weather - that comment by the corner sure did sound cryptic

With all the dangers in this world with evil people, I wouldn't even allow my daughter to walk in the woods, let alone scale a mountain, I feel so sorry for her parents and pray that they can get through this you never get over losing a child. I buried my son in 2016.
The story was unf tragic young lady loosing her life. But I have to change the tempo. When huck started drinking and you looked down I thought I was going to fall out laughing. Sometimes things have a way of providing relief. When I buried my mother a chipmunk stopped us in the middle of the road and had us all laughing

She appears to be extremely well trained to just lay there when you are showing her. She is always so calm. Tell her she is doing a great job! The emotion that you show in your videos shows that you care about the missing people and your advice probably has saved lives and saved many from going missing. I have not had any problem with my subscription and when you release a new video it is always in the number 2 spot when I turn on RUclips. This was hard to watch ! I used to spend a lot of time outdoors in the winter only got too cold once . It got a little dicey and I had warm clothes on . For Gods sake people be prepared when you go out ! God Bless you if this saves one life you’ve done a Great Service!

Happy new year everyone, always buy a survival pack with upwards of 80 pieces . My wife got me one , will I ever use it . Hopefully not , but if I go hunting anywhere in the mountains I will definitely have it on me , comes with all sorts of things . Military shovel ,fishing line hooks lure, fire starter , slow burning fire , wick , survival blanket , compasses 3 knives , one of them survival steel cards , first aid , I put my own lighter in there I think it actually came with one , flash light , lantern , it's pretty damn cool ! And the bag is awsome the straps on the bag can be tore apart and used as rope , there's a broclet that can be used as rope, has a fishing spear/knife that is used with the shovel, this bag is probably 12" x 7" x 8" ... ABSOLUTELY could help save you're life. Supposedly has parachute rope in it as well. But a homemade parachute is not recommended 😂

It doesn't matter how smart you are, common sense was lacking and got her self killed. No knowledge on the territory, no locator, no planning with equipment, no partner, and just plain oblivious. And finally, putting search and rescue in harms way.

My husband went to kids summer camp at Pemigewassett in the late ‘40’s. He said it was beautiful in the summer. I can’t imagine being there in the winter, underdressed for conditions. May her family find comfort🙏🏼

Dave and fellow villagers, here we are into 2025. Wow! Being born in the 1950s, this is stunning to me. Yet no matter the day, I seek kindness everywhere I go. To give and receive kindness can save us all. My prayer is our country and the world. Remember this while there is still time to do so.
Dave, this young lady sounds like an amazing young woman. My heart aches for her family's loss. The deep ache felt at moments like this take a long time to recover from. We all have our own experiences with a moment of loss like this.
Now to a conversation about packing for a hike anywhere, any time of the year. My motto is better safe than sorry, so I carry more than I need, just in case. Dave you have encouraged everyone who hikes to be prepared. My father was the same way. On even the nicest day the weather can turn, I'm conscious of that on every outing I take. Plus carrying a backpack is something I always want to be in shape for. So every outing I go on my pack is with me.
I'm praying all of the Villagers here today are well. That our united front has a big impact on the people around us. The kindness revolution can and hopefully grows even bigger and stronger in 2025!

My only question is , like you said , when the weather started deteriorating and by the tracks they found off trail - why did she keep going ...up ? Why didn't she turn around and start heading back down ? Altitude sickness , cold , wind ....combined to disorient her ? I can't imagine what she and her mom ( family ) went through and I'm so very sorry ...I pray God brings comfort and strength . She sounds like a wonderful young woman and this world is a little dimmer without her light !!!

I live in New Hampshire and remember this case well. My husband and I snowmobile in northern New Hampshire and have been caught in some bad weather. It changes on a dime and it can be snowing with poor visibility on one side of a slope and the sun is out on the other side. Heartbreaking story.
