One-Stroke Elements: Roses

- This is a very detailed tutorial on creating a one-stroke rose for face painting. I'll show you a simple design and then break the rose down to it's parts so you can see what your brush should be doing. Using the angled shaders gives you the ability to drag the white across the bud so that you can keep your white brighter and make thin wispy flair lines.
Supplies used:
Custom one-stroke rose with white/red/raspberry
One-stroke leaf cake
American Painter 5/8" angle shader & 1/2" angled shader
Round brushes & white
I have watched and studied many tutorials. This one, in my humble opinion, is the best. Thank you for the time it took to make this tutorial.
Thank you! I appreciate your lovely comment. ❤️
Thank you for this video and showing the breakdown of how to paint these. I have been trying roses for awhile now and have just never been happy with the way they looked
Thanks! I hope it helps. I love doing roses. I always get asked for my card when I do them.
There are so many tutorials on one-stroke roses - but this one is definitely one of the best! And the whole design looks awesome!
Thank you! As you can see from the photos at the end, I don't usually put the buds in a line but I wanted you to see how they are just variations on the same bud.
Ok so.....this tutorial is PERFECT! If you can't quite get roses down (like me)...watch this video and then go try it! It will definitely help you paint decent looking roses and up your rose game! Thank you for posting! ;)
Excellent teaching skills, madam!
Muchas gracias!!!! Perfecta rosas y explicación.
I have watched many tutorials on roses and have never learned as much as i have with yours, you have found a way to explain it so detailed and so informative and i wanted to let you know that I am so appreciative, thank you so much!!
Merrie Tulanko Thank you so much!
Thank you! This is exactly how to make a frosting rose on a cake. I didn't realize it until I watched your video.
atalanta starnight That's pretty funny because I used to be a cake decorator! LOL! Maybe that's why it all made sense to me.
This is the best rose tutorial I've found! My family is going to be covered in roses for the next few days. I love your style of teaching. I just subscribed!
+Christina Pope So glad you liked it!
Lol! My hubby is covered with roses as well.
Thank you so much for the detailed breakdown. Can't wait to try this now.
definately one the best tutorials! Thankyou
I like the idea of using the angle brush! Thanks for sharing!
I really do like the angled shaders. I just bought some American Painter square brushes and they were splitting on me...definitely like the stiffness of the angled ones.
thank you so much denise, i have been having such a hard time with leaves and you helped so much!
cHrystal Utley Good! That makes me happy to hear.
This was interesting I really have a hard time with roses I am going to try using my angle brush
I think you'll be surprised how much easier it is to use. It's like having two brushes in one.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for creating. You do your demo at a nice pace and explain very well. I like the way you show each brush and love the angle brush concept instead of flat. Am excited to try it with the angle.
Great video! I love all the photos too. You are awesome!
Sharon Lippert Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement.
So beautiful, thank you for posting this!
Wow Denise! You just made my roses click! I was so trying to paint the petals. Thanks heaps!!! Now I don't dread the rose!
So glad Lauren. I love doing roses and clients love them. :)
love this video - thank you :0) x
Crystalbead Thank you for writing, I'm glad it helped.
I buy my brushes from Hofcraft because they are almost wholesale prices. They have a great selection of round brushes and filberts and specialty brushes. I also got my Rinse Well there. Then I don't feel badly about trying new brushes because they are even cheaper than coupon prices.
Which petal brush and size are you using? Love this tutorial ... excellent ... thank you!!!
beautiful xx ♥ u sweetie thanks for helping me out
Can you tell me where I get paint like that pre-made
Start with Silly Farm. They have all the brands. Heather also has a whole video tutorial bank that is very helpful.
What is the cheapest way/place to buy snazaroo face paint for someone who is just getting started in the business?
Alexis Ericksen Why Snazaroo? You can buy a few to try with coupons from Michaels and Joanns. Snazaroo is okay for sponging on bases and I actually like getting white for Sugar Skull season but I've heard too many complaints from other painters to buy more than that. The colors are pretty dull and like work difficult with them. I would start with a FAB palette. Silly Farm has a weekly 10% off deal. It's a good hybrid paint that is easy to sponge but still good for line work and they don't stain as bad as DFX or TAG. I especially have some favorite metallics of theirs. I now use almost all Funstrokes from Global for one stroke work but even those, I have favorites. Search Pinterest for me and I have a whole board of my favorites.
thank you
where can I get this flat brush
Can u please tell me what kind of paints u are using? Mention the name.
Mehdi Raza java sorry! Just noticed this. I believe both of these cakes are homemade. Any rose cake that has white on one end and high contrast will work. In fact, a homemade cake with just red and white makes amazing roses. My favorite for girls is TAG Stargazer and for more dramatic roses Dfx Evil Rose is awesome.
do u need to reload at any time??
+Brenda Presil I usually reload after I do the large outer petals and the small buds. You might want to watch my Loading from One Stroke Cakes video to see how to reload without wasting a lot of paint.
+paintedparty thanks, I really appreciate you
I suck at doing these flowers lol
Keep practicing, you will get there. Good luck x :0)
Try an angle brush if you haven't yet. It made such a big difference for me.
Amazing! great detail, best roses tutorial I have seen. Thank you!
Thanks Di VF! I hope it's helpful. :)
EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!
I'll definitely follow your videos, thanks again!
