IcantSignin that is terrible advice. Most guitarists will tell you to take it to a proper guitar tech if you are in any way messing with the neck, and to not adjust the nut yourself because you can seriously damage your guitar.
@@aldomarten3222 Well It caused me to sit down and really reflect on how much I had learned and I started to play things without the almost fear that beginners have. That was years ago though so I cant really remember lol.
I build my calluses up real quick playing bass. They always felt unnatural so I'd chew away at them with my teeth, but they kept coming back. Eventually, I got used to them and stopped chewing them. Despite all that I still suck. LOL. I really need to learn music theory and practice my timing.
The EBow is an incredible addition to have to an electric. He didn't go over it enough but it does have a 3-way switch: Normal, off, 1 Octave Up. The normal mode will keep the note at the standard note it's played on but the Octave up, as you can guess, will vibrate that string in a way that i'll jump that note up an octave. I've used it many times and playing it in a way that you can quickly jump a note up an octave, is very cool. Also, sounds best on the neck pickup, with the volume knob down (even clean, with volume up it will sound distorted), and tone knob down about 1/2 way. Many musicians use this. It was made popular by the amazing Phil Keaggy. Another fun thing to do with it is play something like an open Am or Em, move the Ebow across the strings back'n forth lightly w/o touching the strings. Cool effect.
annabelleshaus really?, I bought one, and it worked quite well, but it wouldn’t tighten properly around the neck of my guitar, so would always bounce off and cause the strings to be muted, also looks really dodgily made, and I got rid of it within hours of receiving it

there seems to be a ton of creative possibilities using it... i've got to get one! it's just a shame they only made it in plastic as opposed to aluminium, and also i'd imagine it'll be better if you could adjust the torque for the fretter thingamajig to make it more stable especially when you're banging on your strings.

Lego my ebow !!! ... indeed one of the most atmospheric things you can do on a guitar. The newer ones have a harmonic kinda theramin sound as well as the standard sound. I love em". And you can sweep slowly too !!!. BertyFromDK Is there no due diligence process for advertising in magazines? My initial thought is that it would affect the mag's brand reputation if they let con artists advertise their wares (provided they had cash). I have no knowledge of how that stuff works though
Mac, I guess there IS something like a due diligence process, a least in some countries; e.g. Britain has the Advertising Standards Authority, but long as it is a bona fide product being advertised and it's not an obvious ripoff, I think that should be okay. Like you, however, i'm no expert in these matters either so don't quote me in a court ;) Your thoughts about a magazine suffering damage to their reputation IF they run ads for fraudulent merchandise seems well founded, though, in my opinion. But then again, you can hardly blame the publication if the advertiser goes out of business for any reason, before the ads themselves can be canceled. As you may or may not know, big magazines have production times of 2 to 3 months, so a lot of things can happen during that time.
The EZ Fret does have a potential use aside from beginners. Even advanced players who happen to have arthritis can suddenly struggle playing guitar. My friend who has played guitar for many years has severe arthritis and has had to get several knuckles fused to deal with the pain, meaning he can barely play guitar anymore as it is too painful. I wonder if this "EZ Fret" would allow him to play again in some form.
He did mention in the video that the only situation where it would be of benefit would be for someone with a disability preventing them from playing guitar. Maybe get it as a gift for him
I feel like you were WAY too hard on the finger guards. Basically, they're what Tony Iommi uses to play guitar, but store-bought. What often happens with products designed for people with disabilities is they get marketed to the able community because they fill such a niche that it's hard to make the money back. That's almost certainly what's happening with the EZ Fret, and I'm pretty sure it's the same for the finger guards.

Beautiful reviews of 'em, and I might look into that Hammer Jammer thing, big fan of spider capos (I've also been known to use regular capos upside down to get some cool voicings), and gods above, the Ebow is nothing short of magic, black sorcery, epic win! I was introduced to it via Camel's album Harbour of Tears, what Andy Latimer did with it on that album... I too purchased a Jellifish. I figured pretty quick that it was junk. My problem is, I can’t seem to throw this sucker away. I’ve tossed in the trash twice, but it seems to find it’s way out of the can and into the detritus around my home. Recently I was cleaning up my coffee table/ regular table and found it lurking in the shadow of one of the legs of the coffee table. I also have an ebow. One of the best things I’ve ever bought to make my guitar sound like my violin.
it's a feedback loop, with a tiny pickup and another second tiny pickup in reverse, shaking the string with the same frequency it hears in it's pickup, slightly amplified. btw for anyone hunting for how the ebow works
The EZ Fret is very similar to a device that was sold on TV when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. The spokesman in the commercials was a country music star, unfortunately I don't recall who right off hand. Terrific video, Samurai!
With an e-bow, a first generation Boomerang and a delay pedal, I can do dreamy etherial looping for hours. The e-bow is an essential tool for ambient music and anytime I use it in any genre of music I get positive feedback from my listeners. Like any musical tool, it takes a little practice to get it perfect but its easy to get cool sounds from it right out of the box.

Now combo the ez fret with the hammer jammer and spider capo
Why would you not use the hammers AND the fret thing at the same time??!!?!
I’ve been experimenting with the hammer jammer and an ebow at the same time
That's like actually playing piano
“One of the only concerts I’ve ever been to where it smelled like perfume, not pot.” 😂😂😂
The spidercapo is by far my favorite. I love it for slide
annabelleshaus really?, I bought one, and it worked quite well, but it wouldn’t tighten properly around the neck of my guitar, so would always bounce off and cause the strings to be muted, also looks really dodgily made, and I got rid of it within hours of receiving it
@@reevesyboy5581 oh yeah it definitely should be wood or aluminum but it's just plastic which is fine for the price. I would pay more for a better engineered version for sure
I have one i love it ive got no problems with mine besides the glue on the felt for the clamp gave out so ive only have one side thats padded
there seems to be a ton of creative possibilities using it... i've got to get one!
it's just a shame they only made it in plastic as opposed to aluminium, and also i'd imagine it'll be better if you could adjust the torque for the fretter thingamajig to make it more stable especially when you're banging on your strings.
"kind of useless kind of cool basically sums up my existence" I feel this on a deep level
EZ fret must be the most pointless thing ever
When i saw the thumbnail i thought it was a sweet capo to change tunings instantly (like the spider capo) and thought it was sick. Then i saw the fucking mistake i made
3:55 that sounds like how i play the guitar
rottingemptiness Well, at least it's better than playing like 4:06 lol
yeah , but i mean the whole thing , and indeed , especially 4:06 , that's 100% me
Anyway , i like samuraiguitarist's videos
The perfume is used to mask the pot.
I'm sure both stink equally in crowds.
I wouldn’t call the EBow gimmicky. It’s a classic that’s been used on more legendary records than I can count.
Like Bowie's Heros.
@@tomz9338 Uh, no, Robert Fripp just played long notes
@@KazBodnar I think he actually recorded three notes of amp feedback and Brian Eno strung them together

@ezcondition In my neck of the woods, we once had a period with some hash that had been inadequately sealed before being hidden in a gas tank for the various borders it had to cross. Unfortunately, EVERY dealer only had access to the same batch!
Maybe if the Jellifish pick was made with nylon strings, it would be better. Just an idea.
I watched some demos of it and it’s actually pretty good but you need a certain technique that they explain
Lego my ebow !!! ... indeed one of the most atmospheric things you can do on a guitar. The newer ones have a harmonic kinda theramin sound as well as the standard sound. I love em". And you can sweep slowly too !!!. Just for fun try "star spangled banner" and sustain the word "free" (for those who know the words)...you'll feel the whole guitar shake as you visualize a crescendo of illumination as the fire rockets soar above to the heavens !!!.
Jellyfish is the biggest waste of money for guitar I've ever made. Completely useless unless it's supposed to sound like scratchy ear death
dcthegreatest24 You'd think the guitar mag would verify its legitimacy as a product
Mac
Unless the mag is offered one for review, why would they care? Ads are an entirely different kettle of fish from editorial content.
Like you, however, i'm no expert in these matters either so don't quote me in a court ;)
Your thoughts about a magazine suffering damage to their reputation IF they run ads for fraudulent merchandise seems well founded, though, in my opinion.
But then again, you can hardly blame the publication if the advertiser goes out of business for any reason, before the ads themselves can be canceled. As you may or may not know, big magazines have production times of 2 to 3 months, so a lot of things can happen during that time.
Yeah you could just use your pick if you want a scratchy sound.
They really missed out on calling the "Hammer Jammer" the "SLAPPer TAPPer"
OMG epico
I need BASS
The EZ Fret does have a potential use aside from beginners. Even advanced players who happen to have arthritis can suddenly struggle playing guitar. My friend who has played guitar for many years has severe arthritis and has had to get several knuckles fused to deal with the pain, meaning he can barely play guitar anymore as it is too painful.
I wonder if this "EZ Fret" would allow him to play again in some form.
Has he tried it yet?
He did mention in the video that the only situation where it would be of benefit would be for someone with a disability preventing them from playing guitar. Maybe get it as a gift for him
I feel like you were WAY too hard on the finger guards. Basically, they're what Tony Iommi uses to play guitar, but store-bought. What often happens with products designed for people with disabilities is they get marketed to the able community because they fill such a niche that it's hard to make the money back. That's almost certainly what's happening with the EZ Fret, and I'm pretty sure it's the same for the finger guards.
Tony Lommi doesn't use finger guards, he uses a prosthetic finger because he lost a quarter of his ring finger due to a sawing accident
@@andrijamitic3434 sliced tip off the last day at the first of his jobs working with metal.. before making the heavier sort... Tried thimble and leather but settled on an iron glove..No! Helios5868 thanks for the sensible comment!
Another cool use for the Spider Capo is to use it as a normal capo on a guitar with scalloped frets, since a normal capo will bend the strings way out of tune

@@felixlewis5581 well to be fair
Steve Hackett, Phil Keaggy, John McLaughlin and many other people having using the E-bow since the early 70s. I personally have owned one for well over 10 years. I've been playing for a little bit over 30. I absolutely love them( until they came out with the sustainer pickups LOL)
Every now and again I'll get the sudden urge to come and watch him calmly bash the jellyfish pick and then everything seems right in the world again. I love the subtle aggression and wish he'd let it out more often.
The hammer jammer reminded me of a dulcimer. Kinda cool. I also like the capo idea. The ebow type gadget has been around quite a while hasn’t it? I can see using one. Fun stuff!
I think the Ebow came out in the late 1960s.
"Heroes" by Bowie I believe the first major introduction of the E-Bow. Recorded in 77 I think. RIP David and Mick. Great review btw.
@@markpro4813 the sounds in "Heroes" are actually Robert Fripp playing with the feedback from his amp. There's a video of Tony Visconti explaining the recording process for that song on youtube
I know David Gilmour and Radiohead have used it in the past.
Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam have used the E-bow, definitely on the song wishlist
The delivery of that e-transfer, email, e-commerce and emus joke was so damn perfect.
Aside from this guy being a super incredibly talented guitarist, that acoustic that he is playing, (I can't seem to read the name on the headstock), has an absolutely gorgeous, and huge, and mellow sound. The tone quality from what I heard here is just simply awesome !!!
The hammer device makes the guitar sound more like a dulcimer than a piano.
Well now I can fulfill my dream of playing Dulcimer songs on my guitar with the Hammer Jammer
3:09 "I've been pushing down these emotions since 2003, it feels good to finally get this off my chest" spoken in a completely deadpan Bill Murray fashion. That was some funny shit right there :-)
How many of these can you use at the same time?
5:07 Best thing in this vid.
David Nwokoye I see you everywhere
Nahh the ebow is the best thing
james anthony E-bow is the best by far lml!
Yeah, except the Ebow exists. :)
I had a 'guitar pick holder' in the 80's that attached ( stuck with a sticky side ) to your guitar and was spring loaded like a dispenser. Could hold up to about 5 guitar picks. Kind of cool but not necessary.
The song he played using the spider capo was amazing
"Morally opposed to it and wish it had never been made." Don't sugar coat it, mate. Tell us how you REALLY feel!
Yeah, you can probably guess I'm more into the experimental/proggish type stuff.
#PerfumeNotPot needs to be a thing.

Just spit it out already!! Speak your mind!! 🤬
The eBow is a TON of fun!
Yes. I've got my for 50€ on ebay, haha
i've been through two of them, i love them, super useful. on Pearl Jam Wishlist and anything by Ratatat
it's a feedback loop, with a tiny pickup and another second tiny pickup in reverse, shaking the string with the same frequency it hears in it's pickup, slightly amplified. btw for anyone hunting for how the ebow works
It takes some finesse to get good with it, things string-skipping like Phil Keaggy does, but so worth exploring!
Add a delay+reverb to that and it's pure ambient fun.
Ebow and spider capo are boss - had them both in my setup for years and you can make some incredible unique music with either (or both)
Haha I remember buying a jellifish and being confused, looked it up online and it had unanimously negative reviews
The Ebow was neat as hell
The hammer jammer makes your guitar sound like a dulcimer
Kanakotka, that’s what I thought, too!
The EZ Fret is very similar to a device that was sold on TV when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. The spokesman in the commercials was a country music star, unfortunately I don't recall who right off hand. Terrific video, Samurai!
i love the self portrait yourself in yellow
Pixel ffs lmao
lol
4:32 I've never laughed at something so hard that wasn't funny
With an e-bow, a first generation Boomerang and a delay pedal, I can do dreamy etherial looping for hours. The e-bow is an essential tool for ambient music and anytime I use it in any genre of music I get positive feedback from my listeners. Like any musical tool, it takes a little practice to get it perfect but its easy to get cool sounds from it right out of the box.
