I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan since 1976. Have gone through highs and lows. If the Cowboys extends Dak’s contract, they will end up like the Broncos! Dak has peaked and he’s not the solution to help the Cowboys advanced in the playoff(if they make it).
If the cowboys extend Dak, they have a good QB for another 4-6 years. They could also afford to pay free agents and build a stacked roster around him. If they let him “walk” they have less money this year and next year to spend, and have no idea if his replacement could ever be as good as he was.
this year we shouldn't spend a dime on Cowboy merchandise see if would get the picture

I think Trey could matter, but I have no doubt that I'm in the minority. He has great character and unvarnished talent.

I like Trey, but Dak is ten times better. It is what it is.
The crux of it is this. Dak hasnt stepped up in a lot of playoff games, thats true, but hes still damn good, leads you to the playoffs almost every year and puts up top ten all time efficiency numbers.
Its hard to find a guy better, honestly, that being Trey Lance or ANYBODY. So what do you do as an organization? After these letdowns, im ready to move on, but theres NO way Trey Lance is the answer.
With all that SF gave up to get him, the LAST THING they wanted to do was to get rid of him, especially last season.The only reason they did so, s because Shanahan and company know hes never going to be that guy, and not even better than Purdy, from only what he showed his rookie year.
I would never let Dak just walk for free. His agent bullies us, so we let him have no trade clauses, the entire bit, which sucks.
I really wish if we resign him, we take back control of where he plays, because nobody should have a no trade clause in the NFL.
Give me 2 firsts for him, I might be able to let go of him and get into the early first to draft a big dawg QB prospect to replace Dak.

The only thing you know about Trey Lance is he was drafted early by SF after barely playing in college. FYI he also got beat out by Sam Darnold, who was also an early pick with all of the tools, but disappointed.

Lol .. Trey Lance hasn't played a full season of Football in 5 years. He's only played 1 full season since he left High School and that was for North Dakota State. Lance's 5th year option is for 22 Million .. Cowboys aren't paying that for a backup with no meaningful NFL experience.
Cowboys just realising that you one day have to get out of cap hell by letting your QB play his final year out knowing how much financial flexibility a rookie QB gives you. The Vikings did it last year with Cousins, and will probably get a 3rd round pick as compensation in 2025. Cowboys - like the Vikings - have a tonne of young talent soon due their second contract.

I love how almost everyone thinks Trey Lance has no shot of replacing Dak 😂 Let Dak and his agent be stupid again with his contract negotiations and we gonna see Lance be our QB, especially if Trey looks good in the preseason. For a much cheaper price I would love for Lance to take over for Dak so we can pay the studs who need to get paid and we can also have cap room to sign other studs to elevate the team.
Trey hasnt played any significant football in like 4 year. Remember even in his senior in college he had a injury that he practically missed the whole season.

Why don’t the CB ever get any trade or draft capital for players instead of letting them walk when contracts expire?
Jerry and Stephen only want to work about 15 minutes per week.
Even though it too early but knowing Jerry and company, Dallas Cowboys does not have chance to go to Super Bowl. Therefore they need to trade Dak and get draft picks. Draft offensive line, defensive tackle and linebacker and shop on free agency to get running back and great safety. See how Lance is doing. If Lance is not good then trade up next year and get QB. Extending Dak is mistake.
There’s a clause in contract
Dak has had plenty of chances to make something happen. You are never getting anywhere with a QB that will not throw the ball away, but instead try and force the ball and throw an interception. Mainly when everything is on the line. Just my opinion

Ppl flipped out when the 49ers traded Lance. Now going into his 4th year no one has any issues with whatever happens. If he can’t beat out Cooper Rush then does he deserve a spot on any roster. At least he made $34M.
I realize as reporters, it’s tough to criticize The Machine but us fans that have been on this ride during the whole Jerry saga knows. It’s painfully obvious to me that as a GM during the salary cap era, Jerry has failed at winning beyond the first round. Just too many misses in the first two rounds. Just too many crazy trades that impacted the team for multiple years (Joey Galloway). Fielding a winning roster had become secondary to fleecing the fan faithful. The last time the Cowboys won a Super Bowl, the team was worth 250 million. It ballooned to 9 billion with very little postseason success. Where’s the incentive to win?!?!

Won’t be for a 3rd though. The Vikings don’t have one. I personally think the Vikings plan on trading up for a QB in round 1. They need to pay Jefferson this year and Darrisaw next year. I also think that Hunter will be brought back with a deal finalised on the eve of free agency.
