As a curly girl myself, do NOT use a towel and don't squeeze out the water. It needs to be super wet when you apply product. Also, please comb it and don't brush. Brushing creates frizz. You can diffuse side to side as well. Takes me at least an hour to dry my hair. I have to take a sweat break halfway through. When you go to bed, put it up in a pony on the top of your head. We call this the "pineapple". It helps to keep your wave/curl in for the next day.
Agree with all of this. One thing I noticed too: too much product was used, imo. I use maybe a quarter size of curl cream and add once dry if needed. It just weighs it down too much. Taren - your curls were gorgeous, so don't give up. Try alternative ways and find your own curl groove! 🎉
Came here to say the same! Needs to be dripping wet when you scrunch. I sometimes use the tshirt to scrunch, but hair needs to be dripping wet when you add the products and scrunch. Then you can dry about 80% with diffuser. I usually do a nonalcohol hairspray at that point and let it air dry the rest of the way. You’ll find your process! Just keep trying!
Yep, what these curly girls said…water is your friend. Don’t squeeze it out, you should hear the water squishy sound when you scrunch, if you don’t add more water. Also don’t use so much product and don’t apply to the roots. Comb, don’t brush. It does take awhile to defuse, I let my hair air dry about 25% before I start defusing, and only dry to about 80% dry or you will run into frizz.
I use a wide tooth comb in the shower when I condition to comb out my hair. I don’t brush my hair once I’m out of the shower. Water is your friend with curls. Use a tshirt to minimize frizz. I also prefer gel vs creams. Quidad makes my favorite humidity control gel. Creams tend to weigh down my curls and gel just gives me much more definition and the Quidad gel I love because it doesn’t give me crunchy curls. I diffuse with my head upside down and i alternate from hot and cold air. Just what works for me. And only blow dry until about 80-85% dry. About as much as I can stand anyway because it gets hot girl lol
Taren I am o lyn4 months into my curly hair journey. It one thing I have already learned is 1 every curly hair wash day is different and 2 ur hair should be soaking wet to apply products and then gently blot excess water and product before diffusing… curly hair is a whole process and cannot be rushed
The Women by Kristen Hannah was one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. It’s historical fiction about the Vietnam era. Such a good book. I like most of her books.
If you are reading Kindle Unlimited only I would say try Catherine Cowles but don’t binge a series because they do have the same formula, I would read one then read a few books and then go back to the series. I also like P. Rayne her books are a little dark but not too dark. Lulu Moore, Rebecca Jenshak, Suzanne Wright (read and listen) shifter series, Natasha Madison. Those are a few of my favorite authors on KU.
Embracing your curly hair is a journey - and even when you figure it out, don’t get too comfy because then it’ll change and your routine will have to change too. (I know you said you’re not a plopper and I wasn’t either until I figured out that a 15 minute plop post-product will let it set a bit and then I go back in with gel, let it set until it’s crispy, then blow dry and then scrunch. It’s way more product than I ever thought would be reasonable, but it’s magically not crunchy at the end.)
I am a curly haired girl. I have used both expensive and cheaper curly products. I’ve had both work and both not work. I think the key is applying to VERY wet hair and not brushing. Just a simple comb through followed by scrunching and then either natural dry or diffusing. I can only natural dry if I have hours to dry. I diffuse about halfway then try to air dry if I have time. Even diffusing takes a long time.
I loved your hair! But I'm a big hair 80's girl, in fact I graduated 40yrs ago today!!!! I'm still all about the big hair and yes, we used diffusers lol.
I'm a curly girl too, and what I find that works, is pretty wet hair, leave-in conditioner, then comb through. I then scrunch in a couple palms of mousse and let my hair fully air dry. I too have very thick hair and this is what has worked for me since my teens and I'm in my fifties now. Hope this helps!
My understanding is that micro needling really helps with skin texture. It creates “damage” to your skin and induces collagen to correct “damage”. One of my friends had bad acne as a teenager and micro needling has really helped with her skin texture. I agree with you when you said that the micro needling can help with fine lines but Botox or another kind of neurotoxin works better for deeper lines or wrinkles. I’ve been doing both. 🌸
I enjoyed a cute little frivolous series of books by Sugar Jamison called “a perfect fit series”. They’re very fluffy easy feel good reads about curvy women in a small town that are kinda linked together and meet their men through various circumstances. I still re read these even years later.
A lot of great comments. My hair is wavy and thick. I do not brush on days I am going wavy, I use a wide comb. My favorite product is Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft that is a cream or Miss Jessie's Jelly Soft, that is a jell. I do everything with my head upside down. Then, after I defuse I use clips to lift top layers so that the middle can dry more. It's a process to figure out what will work best.
It probably feels heavy because of the amount of curl cream used. I would either use less of that or wouldn’t use a cream at all. I’d also use more mousse on soaking wet hair. I don’t think it’s necessary to start and stop your hair dryer when diffusing. I never do that and it turns out good. I also will diffuse at my scalp/roots at the start, not hovering.
I love your hair wavy 😊 just figure out the routine. Some of us air dry (tons of products weigh down my hair, I have no patience, and tons of routines online are for folks who like to wash once a week and keep adding products). I wash every other day with gentle shampoo but condition every day, and air dry. We're all different 😊 Micro needling sounds interesting
I have wavy hair too and finally found a great product for air drying-during the day, I can’t sleep with wet hair either. It’s called curl defining styling soufflé by curl smith. Also-I don’t wrap my hair in a towel anymore. It’s healthier now without that step
Don’t squeeze extra water out. You want it sopping wet when you put in all your products. You can then use a microfiber towel after all products and styling is done to gently get the extra moisture out at the very end of your routine.
I have curly hair and I have to have just wet hair, sopping wet doesn’t work for my dry coarse hair. You are so right that everyone’s hair is different as is every wash day styling results. Some good some bad.
Hehe cash photo bomb 😂, so pretty makes me want to grow my hair out again , I had to cut it short for my neck surgery and that’s been 4 years . I miss long hair 😢. But that is a really beautiful beachy, vaca, hair , perfect for those humid summer days ❤fromTX
A few thoughts as a fellow wavy-haired person! 1. you might've actually had your hair too dry -- I see, especially for wavy hair, that it's best to style on SOAKING wet hair. 2. you can plop! -- this is more of a step to set your curls and take out that high amount of moisture you need to disperse your hair products evenly in your hair. You still diffuse and everything so you're not relying on it to dry it over 9349 years 3. I prefer a mousse over a style cream personally, I don't use both. If your hair is similar to mine (I'd say I have medium, fine hair that's wavy), you might find that a cream or using both is too heavy for you, so don't be afraid to switch it up and see what works for you! Manes by Mell also has a way of gauging how much product you need: form a circle around a ponytail without pressing your fingers in (as if to cinch it). The circumference of that circle roughly equates to a good amount of product to try!
Use root lift, Diva curl gel is my favorite. I do praying hands with gel and spray it again with water. If i have time i half air dry it then use difuser . Then you work out the cast of the crunchy curl and bam. Curl cream weighs down my curls is why i like the gel.
I use a wide tooth comb for detangling. That brush (Denby) is used to define curl pattern. It's a technique. Manes by Mel has a video on how to use the curling brush vs the alternative finger coil method. Adding more layers may get more curls due to reducing the weight. That worked for me and because it's so thick, it looks the same straightened. I was impressed with how much curl pattern you got considering processing, swimming and heat styling. You might be more than just wavy. I have 2B/C thick, frizzy hair that never dries (even in Az). What I learned is a natural curl pattern is a process; no 2 people are the same and hair needs can vary from wash day to wash day. No hot tool can duplicate the look of natural curls and healthy hair. It's a great option. There's so much advice online that it can be a rabbit hole of $$$ crazy products. That's ridiculous. Your curls/waves are natural.
As a curly girl too I defuse my hair. I do not turn the blow dryer on and off on and off that’s too much drama. I just turned it on and diffuse my whole head all around. As for product, the only mouse I found that’s not heavy and leaves my hair crunchy is Paul Mitchell mouse with the red written on it. The one in the purple is for extra hold & you don’t want that . Try that, it doesn’t leave your hair hard and crunchy. Good luck I hope you take this advice.
I love the Arthur..Freida McFadden. She has numerous books ..want to know a secret? Was very good,& The Teacher, The housemaids secret & The Housemaid was amazing! I will check your out❤

Hi Taren, good luck on your texture journey. I have wavy hair and i found that curly routines don't work for me. I like hanzcurls on RUclips for wavy tips. I only use gel and hairspray on my hair because it does not form a cast easily. If i do mousse or foam its on dry hair. I have very silky, soft hair. I also brush my hair, diffuse right side up in sections until im about 80% dry then reapply gel with water and flip upside down for volume. All this to say that I hope you find the confidence to do what works for you, not what you're "supposed" to do.❤

Book recommendation: L.J. Shen Vicious. It sets the stage in youth but you see the adult version of their story if that makes sense. Also, same author Dirty Headlines!
I've got fine hair that's straight as an arrow. I've always wished I had thicker wavy hair so I could style it differently but it's such a pain trying to curl/wave it at all because any body just falls out no matter what I do. On the plus side I can just wash it, let it air dry (takes an hour), brush it and go and it doesn't frizz. Guess there's positives and negatives to both.
Curly girl here! Comb it in the shower with conditioner. Scrunch before you put the towel on in the shower. I would say you have curly hair. Scrunch, scrunch scrunch!!! I would say 2 products max. Leave-in and mouse or serum
Embracing your curly hair can be difficult. Some days I love my hair and it looks amazing and then other days I can use the same techniques and it looks terrible. It's not easy but your hair will get better over time. Unfortunately it takes a while.
Love Frieda McFadden books, finish reading housemate never lies and co-worker looking forward to buying more of her books. I also like Vincent Ralph Karin slaughter Erica spindle
I like your hair curly! You should read Nora Roberts The Search, it’s a mystery thriller type of book about a girl with 3 labs that she does search and rescue, she is a dog trainer also. It is SO good! I love a good mystery!
OMG! I LOVE that were into the same books! I will send you a ton of recommendations! I feel the exact same since I'm 31, I don't want to read about teenagers 😑 lol
If you enjoy paranormal books, try Kay Hooper. Her Bishop series is really good. The books are about a group of pyschics that solve crimes for the FBI. Each pyschic has different abilities. Elin Hildebrand writes a really good beach read. Each book is set in Nantucket. These books are about adults.
Is Kindle unlimited free?? I thought you paid a subscription fee for that. Heck, now i am going to order a ton of books for free. Thanks for sharing, no cost for kindle!!
Ok you could have wavy curly hair but it would require a lot of experiments for the right products, also you have to commit to curly hair. I use to put my curly hair products on in the shower after I turned the water off than I would plop it in the micro towel.
@@TarenDenise Maybe if I reply here the comment will stay 😆 I'm also learning to embrace my wavy hair. I have tried several of "Sophie Marie's" techniques (she's on RUclips/TikTok/IG) & have had success with most of them. Learning what's the right amount of product for your hair is a process. I heard about "How Does it Feel" on BookTok when but wanted to wait for the sequel since supposedly it had a pretty wild cliffhanger. I'm so glad you brought it up bc the sequel came out in February & I totally missed it! Excited to have 2 books on my summer TBR ❤
Why all the dark books, Taren? You seem like a young woman who would want to let the light in. Not criticizing. I would ask the same question to my own daughters. Might get an eye roll with an "oh mom"...lol
Your hair looks so much healthier curly than straight!!! Straight it looks dry and damaged curly looks so soft and s healthy!!!

Your hair looks GORGEOUS wavy!! It looks so healthy and smooth!
Thank you!
I loved the book The Lost Bookshop. I have gifted it several times now and everyone seems to really like it. The characters are more mature.
The Women by Kristen Hannah was one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. It’s historical fiction about the Vietnam era. Such a good book. I like most of her books.
That Milking book, omg I couldn’t get past the cover 😂😂😂

Cee Bowerman, ANY of her series are awesome! The Donovan’s would be your age range but all of her series are sooooo good!

Manes by Mell also has a way of gauging how much product you need: form a circle around a ponytail without pressing your fingers in (as if to cinch it). The circumference of that circle roughly equates to a good amount of product to try!

When you put that clip in your hair , that was perfect
I use a wide tooth comb for detangling. That brush (Denby) is used to define curl pattern. It's a technique. Freida McFadden has some really good books ! Kinda mystery , edgy , keep ya guessing books 😊
The best creator about curly hair hands down is manes by Mel
So true!
I came in here to say the same!
Yes! She is great.
Same
You might try the Sweet Magnolias series by Sherryl Woods. The main characters are older, at least in the first three books , and they are fun reads.
I love the Arthur..Freida McFadden. She has numerous books ..want to know a secret? Was very good,& The Teacher, The housemaids secret & The Housemaid was amazing! I will check your out❤
Agree!!!
I just read Morning Glory Milking Farm. It's definitely entertaining. I read it the same time with a friend and we have a lot of inside jokes about it. I have started looking at all the cow art that's so popular now very differently lol. Have you looked up Butcher and Blackbird? Also has a lot of trigger warnings
Your hair looked so pretty wavy! I don’t do my hair curly too often, but when I do, I only use mousse. Herbal Essences Curl Booster is my go to. I blow dry my hair upside down on low setting, scrunching the whole time.
All this to say that I hope you find the confidence to do what works for you, not what you're "supposed" to do.❤
Just so you know I have a little experience with hair, I've been licensed in TX as a stylist and instructor for 40 yrs. Most of my work these days is on my daughter, son's wife and their three grown daughters. I took care of my mom's hair until she passed. There are a score of cousins aunts and close friends who offer me the opportunity to practice my art. Naturally the younger gals always want the latest style they saw on a model or in a tt video. I totally understand your hair type, my eldest grand daughters hair is a carbon copy of yours.
The piecy strands that you have the strong urge to separate are needed to define the curls. If you separate them it will look similar to curling your hair with a 1/2 inch barrel iron. Not recommended, but possible.
Unless ypu only shampoo once per week there's no real reason to wash twice unless you have a huge amount of product on your hair. Color treated hair should be brushed as little as possible. Brushing causes split ends.
I'd try out that haul of products one by one to see which one works best. I find people's hair is most curly right after I remove the towel. If they can do an activity that requires little movement for awhile their curls will dry more quickly. Brushing the curl out and spending 90 minutes putting it back in is a chore most people need to turn over to a pro. Those styles need to be saved for special occasions
To keep the curls intact longer avoid touching.
Your huge effort came out very well. You can obviously get this technique down with practice.
😉 I've always wanted to see your hair thinned out to the max and straight as a board. 😄
Curly hair also. Never towel my hair even when I was teen and wanted that 60s straight hair. Only use wide tooth comb. But each wash can be a different challenge.
I tried wearing my hair natural for about a year. It takes so much time every day!
1. Try gel not foam (Not Your Mothers is a good cheap option; Shea Moisture is prob too heavy a product).
2. Plop with microfiber towel for as long as possible.
3. Diffuse roots before ends.
4. Scrunch out gel cast after drying
I don't have curly hair but I do have thick hair when I I wash my hair in the shower when I add in the shampoo I brush it out in the shower and rinse and then I do it with the conditioner and I love it works good for me because I have has much knots and i re brush it out to make sure i have all the knots you should try that and it if works for you
Book recommendation: L.J.
Your hair looks lovely - clipping is how I function since I have really thick curly hair and hate diffusing.
Yay ❤ just hit home and you are here!
Curly girl here! Comb it in the shower with conditioner. Scrunch before you put the towel on in the shower. I would say you have curly hair. Scrunch, scrunch scrunch!!! I would say 2 products max. Leave-in and mouse or serum

I love your hair wavy!! Looks super cute!!🥰
Happy Saturday Taren! Wonderful vlog!❤❤😊
Super cute hair! Thanks for sharing!
I loved your curls/waves. You are lucky!
IT looked so good!!!
Curly Susie on RUclips just posted a video after a long hiatus, if you aren’t familiar with her she is great!
Girl ,you did not just put me on time lapse !! 😂
My hair went from straight to pretty wavy in my 40s. Your hair looked gorgeous after it dried.
India Baston also shows great methods for doing curly/wavy girl hair. She is on RUclips.
Your hair looked really pretty!
Embracing your curly hair can be difficult. Some days I love my hair and it looks amazing and then other days I can use the same techniques and it looks terrible. It's not easy but your hair will get better over time. Unfortunately it takes a while.
Love Rina Kent too!
Love Frieda McFadden books, finish reading housemate never lies and co-worker looking forward to buying more of her books. I also like Vincent Ralph Karin slaughter Erica spindle
Ahh the curls look super cute Taren😮
Book recommendations: Bunny, Meet me on the Bridge, The Women, Diamond Eye
The orphanage by the lake was a good one to :) I love to read
I like your hair curly! You should read Nora Roberts The Search, it’s a mystery thriller type of book about a girl with 3 labs that she does search and rescue, she is a dog trainer also. It is SO good! I love a good mystery!
Reading the book called the last one by will dean it's super good
If you don’t have the unbrush, you need it! It’s the best
OMG! I LOVE that were into the same books! I will send you a ton of recommendations! I feel the exact same since I'm 31, I don't want to read about teenagers 😑 lol
Yes please!
Post them! I need ideas!
I am excited to see I have really long thick fine hair. No way I am going to bed with wet hair!! lol
Priest is sooooo good!
I finished it already 😳🤣👏
5-7 business days hahaha
Kristen Ashley- "For You" the berg series
If you enjoy paranormal books, try Kay Hooper. Her Bishop series is really good. The books are about a group of pyschics that solve crimes for the FBI. Each pyschic has different abilities. Elin Hildebrand writes a really good beach read. Each book is set in Nantucket. These books are about adults.
Yay book recommendations
Yay!
Happy June 1 2024! 🌞🇺🇸
I have five kindles and dead every day and probably read 10-15 books a month if not more. I read every minute I can.
When you diffuse your hair you don’t have to fully dry your hair-that would take forever!
Went to order your eye cream but they are not set up yet to take on line order. Do you know when they plan on taking on line orders?
I don’t know yet. When I find out I’ll let y’all know!
My hair: Dries in 5...minutes! 😅
Why don’t you try a curly girl specialist apt ? They could give u tips etc
First to like and comment. I want to see this hair attempt!!!
Too much work😂
Ok so what’s easier to do? Wavy hair or straight hair?? Lol This looked like a lot of work 😅
Is Kindle unlimited free?? I thought you paid a subscription fee for that. Heck, now i am going to order a ton of books for free. Thanks for sharing, no cost for kindle!!
Is microneedling painful?
Nope! They numb your face first.
A Court of Thrones and Roses.
😊😊
Ok you could have wavy curly hair but it would require a lot of experiments for the right products, also you have to commit to curly hair. I use to put my curly hair products on in the shower after I turned the water off than I would plop it in the micro towel.
Embora eu goste mais de ver o cabelo liso gostei de ver com as ondas 👍😚
Not sure why my comments aren't posting :(
I see your comment 😊
@@TarenDenise Maybe if I reply here the comment will stay 😆
I'm also learning to embrace my wavy hair.
No curly hair, but maybe a bit of wave.
Why all the dark books, Taren? You seem like a young woman who would want to let the light in. Not criticizing. I would ask the same question to my own daughters. Might get an eye roll with an "oh mom"...lol
it's all in good fun. I enjoy reading them. maybe you should give one of my book recs a try :)
@@TarenDenise Thank you for not jumping on me;) You are always kind!
