I don't understand why we as black people are so trained to think that we have to validated by another race of people. The standards have been set and are that way because we have no economic power or unity as a people. For instance every so called A-list actor knows about the Tree of Life Awards. This was a BLACK OSCAR given to BLACK ACTORS. I attended several of the occasions. What surprises me is that none of the black elite took this event over after the founders went into ancestry. It was place for us to meet and greet and make things happen like UNIVISION. We missed the boat as always. RIP MR AND MRS NELLUM

I love Marlon man, but I was highly disappointed with Fifty Shades of Black. That was by far the worst movie he has ever done. I'm not hating on him. I paid to watch that movie when it came out to show support for Black actors. But that movie was horrible.
What exactly was horrible about it?
+jdac22 Yup.. i went and watched it and it was lame. It had a couple good laughs, but overall terrible. We had a few people walk out mid-way. Silly scenes like your face getting stuck in an elevator door or tripping while trying to impress some one are way too played out. The black girl character felt like she was written for the white girl in the older scary movies. A few good laughs but nothing to brag about, Marlon hyped the shit out of this movie tho.
Mr. Lynx Syrian Hale was spot on. My gf and I couldn't wait for the movie to end. People were leaving during the movie because it was not funny. The only reason I refused to leave is because I paid to watch it...LOL! It has some scenes where you got a little giggle out of it, but at most, that's it. I expected it to be "stupid funny". Similar to Scary Movie or White Chicks, which is why I looked forward to watching it because I liked those movies. I think Marlon could have done a better job with the comedy. The part in the movie trailer where Marlon shoves that girls head in the elevator did not get any funnier than that scene. His comedy was just too played out.
I personally enjoyed the movie. Was it a wayans' best work? Hell no. Was it Marlon's best work? Not at all. But I laughed a lot more than I expected to.
I think there's two major things wrong with this movie...
1: Marlon overhyped and under delivered and that rubbed people the wrong way because he didn't meet their expectations.
2: It's a parody comedy which comedy snobs look down upon because the jokes don't make you think. It's quick, cheap humor.
I'm the type of person where I can turn my brain off and laugh because I know what to expect. No one left the movie theater I was at so it's sure to get mixed reviews.
+Mr. Lynx Marlon IMO is still very talented and a naturally funny guy. I would have loved to see the guy co-starring in Ride Along 2 rather than Kevin Hart. Imagine how funny that would be..

I don't want to be the one throwing shade here, as the Wayans are a successful family that works well together, but does anyone else find Marlon to be "too over the top" i,e, annoying more often than not? it seems like he thinks in order to be funny you need to be obnoxious.
It's difficult to get through his interviews because he's too busy trying to find a joke somewhere that the casual fan doesn't get much information.. and perhaps spoofing every damn movie that comes out isn't the best angle anymore. People tend to forget about his acting abilities in films such as requiem for a dream, because he continues to dumb shit down in flicks like white chicks.
Chris Foley was the same way before he passed! He acted ridiculous on stage and it worked for him!!
