Going Solar is the only way to get true energy independence.

Duke energy is changing that too. So net metering right now is 1:1 with Duke. Duke will be changing how much people will get back depending on the time of day. We do have solar panels based on the 1:1 net metering - it should not be allowed to be changed like that. Do not get solar panels. People are getting crushed by the amout of greed politicians allow these companies. Enough is enough.

Duke Energy does not care. Having power is a necessity and they know that you need it. The state should bring in competitive energy companies, just like there are internet, cable and cell phone companies, etc.

Vanguard and Black Rock at it again. This is how they get us to accept maggot steak and living in shipping containers. My lights went from 125 to 300. Some winters they do it and others they don't.

I've worked in the energy business before so of course I may be bias. But a few things to consider.
    1. If you've never worked or understand the energy business, it's very easy to think these are evil companies who are trying to extort civilians. It's simply not the case and driving costs down to consumers is actually a priority. However, the COST of production and storm restortation is quite high, so someone must be footed this bill. Now, consider this scenario... Rising energy production costs, a federal government who insists on removing coal (cheap) and forcing renewable options (low power output overall), a public who turns away from nuclear (the best option to keep both consumer bills, production costs, and environmental impact low), and a consumer base that draws more power than every before.... It's a lose lose scenario for energy companies.
    2. On the topic of the "monopolies"... For states like Texas, on one hand yes power costs tend to be lower and there is competition.. However... let's recall the Texas snow outages where customers were left completely blacked out for over a week, many people died, and consumer bills were recorded on variable rate customers being upwards of $2000 a month in some cases. With no connection back to the federal grid, this was an ultimate worst case scenario for Texas, but nonetheless, still occured.
Anyways, I would say this... If you hate your power company, vote differently (both parties are wrong). We need to invest in energy infrastructure like other countries. Develop nuclear options, replace goal with Gas Fired CC with government grants (The US GOV could shutdown and replace every coal plant with gas fired, 90% cleaner than coal, and cheaper for customers, but they wont because Gas is still frowned upon)
BTW - remember that a gas pipeline to be built in partnership with Dominion (Virginia) was ultimately shutdown by the Fed that would have allowed Raleigh/East Carolina additional gas access and would have lowered customer costs MASSIVELY for heating in the affected areas.....

Duke is worth billions. Lets not pretend this is not their board members not wanting to make more money. Please. I am sick of the government and ignorant people supporting greedy companies. We have two cancer hotspots in Huntersville and Mooresville because of Duke. They dumped coal ash in the catawba river that did not want to clean up - meanwhile I personally know a woman whose daughter has cancer due to these hotspots. Our electricity is not reliable through Duke -- it goes out 6 to 8 times a year - inclusive a rolling black out on Christmas eve. Their gross profit for 2023 was 19 billion, a 5.14% increase year over year. It is plain greed. They are a monopoly that also needs to he broken up.

The Utilities Commission or any government should not be allowed to decide whether a rate increase for energy or any other necessary product should be increased because they work for the government they have a set income all other Healthcare is paid everything is paid for they get bonuses every year
