    Nice review! Do you see any issue with attaching a small arca swiss plate to the removable tripod plate so you can use your arca swiss plate already on the bottom of a DSLR?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks so much! I guess you would mean by mounting an arca swiss base plate to the manfrotto plate, then mounting your camera onto that with it's arca swiss plate attached? I think it could work fine- there's a good amount of space to adjust the balance for taller rigs, so it shouldn't cause any issues there. Being completely honest though, I would personally just switch plates, just to avoid any chances of something twisting loose or some other complication. I totally get the annoyance of having to switch plates though. It would be cool if MOZA actually made a second, alternate "baseplate" that would work in the same way this one does but with Arca style plates instead. Then people could pick which version they want when they buy it. Could sove some issues :)

    • @andytodzia1224
      @andytodzia1224 5 лет назад +2

      I do it that way on my manfrotto fluid head and it works fine. I am now using a Canon 5D Mark VI so that camera is not that high. Yes, an alternate plate would be nice but the orientation would probably be issue.

    • @ScottDumas

      I did try it once quickly when I first got it and I didn't notice any problems... the motor is pretty strong so in most cases I don't imagine you should have any trouble :) I do want to try it again though. I'd love to test out a zooming inception shot!

  • @HoustonBrownPhotography

    Loved the comment about the transition modes. That has always annoyed me and forced me to shoot shots that transitioned in lock mode so that wouldn't happen. It seems I saw somewhere that you could set up different configurations and call on them at any time. I can not seem to find anything about that and even the manual is not clear on it.
    Thanks for the great review of this product.
    Many thanks,
    Houston

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      Glad you appreciate that :) As for the configurations... you mean like different sets like user profiles with different settings (follow speed, dead pan, follow mode etc)? If so, I'm not sure actually and would have to look into that further but I don't remember having it as an option. It would be a great idea if it's not already implemented though :)

    Hello Scott, next week I am planning to get this gimbal just because it can give power backup to camera and other accessories. But till now I don't see anyone showing how to do it. Does it comes with accessories that supports any camera for power backup? Can you put some light here so that it helps me out having this gimbal. Thanks again, love your reviews.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад +1

      Hey! Yeah to be totally honest I haven't used that but I think that my camera is just not compatible so I never bothered. It does come with some cables that might work for certain cameras which can be powered through usb (?) but there are no dummy batteries included. I wish I could help more but it might be something to search for or ask in the Facebook users group because there's a better chance someone on there has used it that way.

    I liked your light setup in this video. Could you maybe make a video about it? Or at least tell me what did you use for the green amd orange lights. Was it a color gel? If so what color was it exactly? Especially the green one.
    Thanks :) And also subscribed :)

      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад +1

      Hey thanks so much! I show my overall setup here in this video: ruclips.net/video/c8nUv32wdMc/видео.html
      I'm using the 120D II with the Lightdome as my key light and what I have for the orange lights are a couple of Quasar Science Crossfade tubes set to 3200 kelvin laying on the table, with a little diffusion paper over them because they're too bright (I'm still waiting for the dimmer I ordered for them). For the greenish blue kicker light I have the 120D in a light dome mini with the grid and gel holder inside holding a piece of Suntec PC-57 gel, not sure the color name but if you check "PC-57" I think it should come up. Truthfully, it's a little more green than the blue I originally wanted but it's working for now :)
      Hope that helps but feel free to ask any questions at all! And of course, thank you for watching and subscribing :-D

    Great review..very informative! I'm leaning towards this gimbal after consideration of other alternatives. I may have missed this in the video, but like the Zhiyun Crane 2, this gimbal I believe is capable of controlling the camera settings from the selector dial when the camera is connected to the gimbal via a mini USB cable, allowing you to change aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation as well as electronically pulling focus using the focus wheel without the follow focus motor on auto focus lenses. Did you try these features and were these features available on the EOS R? I believe the manual I saw online had a list of compatible cameras, and new cameras may be added in the future.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      Thanks so much! I appreciate it :)
      The Air 2 is also able to control things like camera settings and even pull focus with compatible cameras (no Canon cameras work with the focus pulling though as far as I know).
      In theory I don't see why the EOS-R wouldn't be compatible software-wise, but there's not a USB C control cable included at the moment (or there wasn't for mine anyway), so I couldn't try it out with the R. It should be fine with the 5D IV I think, but since I got the R I haven't felt like filming on the 5D haha... I'll have to give it a try soon though just to see how it all works. I did ask MOZA about the future availability of the USB-C/EOS-R cable, but I forgot to follow up with them on it so I'm not sure what they're planning exactly. I'll email them again now! :)
      Thanks again for watching and I hope you enjoy the gimbal if you do decide to get it!

    Please allow me to focus on the... focus system :)
    Gudsen, and the Moza menu itself (10´20), speak about electronically focus... have you tried that out ? Does it work with the wheel control (and without the focus external motor), notably with the Panasonic Gh line ?

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching! :) I believe the case was originally supposed to be included but due to production cost issues they're just shipping it with the foam now. The entire foam part can easily fit into any similar case you can find on Amazon or at Home Depot for example, as long as you find one with similar dimensions, but they also do sell a backpack for it which looks amazing.

      I have played around with it a little bit, but it's heavy haha. There's some little clips towards the end of this video using the C200 and a 12mm Laowa, 24 1.4L and 24-105: ruclips.net/video/YBPf399Y2_A/видео.html
      Overall, it does ok. I think the gimbal's capability is better than my ability with such a heavy setup lol, but I do want to play around with it a bit more... so far from what I've seen it's not perfect, but it's not terrible either.

  • @mochouinard

    I wanted a gimbal for a while but they all seem to have some limitations that bug me... The Ronin-S was close, but a few things made me wait. So far, the Moza Air 2 have very little missing in there ! I like the double plate system which is standard, I like the screen and individual control of the motor which is quickly accessible. It actually have a follow focus system ready. It doesn't suffer the transition glitch the Ronin-S have like you demonstrated which is HUGE deal ! Battery location and no need to remove the base handle, or lose the base control for direct power operation. The only thing that bug me is the fact that it probably doesn't come with a bag or case for it... I would have paid a bit more for a low cost high volume case for it. I hope they do ship soon !!!

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks so much for watching! I'm really glad to hear that someone besides me appreciates the lack of a transition glitch!! Definitely a big deal, more so than some other issues that people spend more time talking about.
      I'm not totally sure about the case situation to be honest. I got a hard case with mine but it was sent to me for review so I'm not sure if that's what everyone will be getting. There's been some talk about it on Facebook and it seems kind of up in the air right now. I definitely would shell out a little extra money for the backpack they'll be offering though, looks like a great way to carry around the gimbal and more.

      Oh yeah, no problem :) All the follow modes, customization of the gimbal's follow settings etc will work with any camera that is in the weight limit (which yours are) so that will all be ok. You can connect it by cable to some cameras and do things like start/stop recording or change aperture/shutter speed/iso from buttons on the gimbal's handle too... that part is the only part I'm not sure about with your specific cameras, but it's not necessary at all to use the gimbal so it's ok. I don't think it's compatible with the EOS R just yet (as far as being connected to control the camera settings). The gimbal itself will still work in all the modes and everything, you just can't control the camera settings from the handle. • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад +1

      It's definitely heavy but for a gimbal that can hold such a large/heavy camera, and do it stably, I'm ok with it. It's still easier (physically) than one handing a non-motorized glidecam haha.

    Do you know what the "filter" function on this gimbal does? When I first balanced my camera on the Air 2, and then simply set it down on a table, it would start vibrating uncontrollably. When I up the "filter", to a value of 20-30 specifically on the roll axis, the vibration stops.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      I haven't messed around with it on this gimbal specifically, but yeah, generally filter settings can help deal with those oscillations or vibrations if standard strength settings don't do the trick. I'd recommend just checking the motor strength though and making sure it's not too high, because that will cause vibrations as well.

      For me, I've always been way too nervous to trust the single little screw at the bottom to put any gimbal on a monopod and lean it out at an angle putting stress on that connection. But, that's just me- I know a lot of people do it with this and other lighter gimbals too, and if it were me I'd probably try to make it as light as possible overall haha. I might trust this anyway, but with a lighter camera setup for sure.

    I cant seem to figure out how to set the control wheel on the moza air 2 to control the yaw. When i calibrate the gimbal its always just off being level, and i feel the control wheel could fix that issue. Can you shed some light on this?

      Hi! Thanks so much and congratulations on your purchase of the Air 2 :)
      The wheel can be set in the menu under "roller," and "rol" will control the roll axis which could help your level issue. Another thing to try out would be to calibrate it. Usually if you have issues with it being unlevel, calibrating it can help.

      Hi! I don't have the necessary cables at the moment so haven't been able to try it yet. I'm definitely curious about how well that works too, and how significantly it affects overall battery life. I assume it wouldn't be that significant though- even if the 16 hour battery life was cut in half, 8 hours is still more than enough for most days of filming and I think it would likely not be that extreme. If I get a chance to test that feature out more I'll be sure to post about it... if not a full video, at least on Facebook. Why everyone reviews gimbals without external recorder attached. I can't see how you could create a high-quality footage without having a good ext monitor to check focus (usually manual). So could you please share how does it work with external monitor?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      Honestly, with the EOS-R (or even 5Dmk4) focus isn't much of an issue. DPAF takes care of my focus 75% of the time (either face AF or a square placed where I want it). An external monitor is still great of course for more reasons than just with focus, but for me it's often too much trouble since I tend to film on tight schedules or with a lot of other things going on I have to deal with.
      BUT there is a screw mount on the front of this where you could attach a magic arm to hold a monitor or you could use some sort of small side handle where you could mount it, and I think MOZA will be coming out with some true dual handles soon also which will give you more points to attach a monitor as well. How to attach it will really depend on your monitor size and what mounting accessories you have or how long your cable is etc. It really will differ from one person to the next :)

    • @alexbeloff4618
      @alexbeloff4618 5 лет назад

      @@ScottDumas Autofocus is for vlogging, simple and uncomplicated footage. But for something more higher-level manual focusing is a no-brainer. Think music videos, some filmmaking and even concerts. For all that external monitor is a must-have.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      With the AF on the Canon C200, EOS-R and even 5D IV, I'd have to disagree with you that it's not meant for music videos, film making or other "higher-level" videos. It works amazingly as long as you know the limits of it and where you can expect it to work and where you need to rely on manual focus. I'm not knocking or denying that manual focus is more reliable overall, but in a whole lot of "higher level" situations I still would not call it necessary, so long as you know your camera and it's limitations. It's one of the big reasons I bought the C200 and not the EVA1, URSA Mini, or Kinefinity for example.
      If you're talking about using the follow focus on here, that's a different story of course, because the whole idea is precision manual focus pulling. For that, yeah- you'd need a larger monitor 99% of the time. In that case, it would still depend on what monitor you're using and what external accessories you have/want to use. You could go with a magic arm, a smaller side handle/cold shoe mount or something else entirely using dual handles (when they come out).

    • @alexbeloff4618
      @alexbeloff4618 5 лет назад

      @@ScottDumas Well, that's good for you. But not everyone uses cameras you use. That gimbal is not just for Canon, right? Now, even using those cameras but with cine lenses, how are you going to focus without external monitor I wonder?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад +1

      Lol, not sure what more I can say here man... I literally explained 3 ways you can attach a monitor to this particular gimbal and admitted manual focusing with something like the iFocus (which would be necessary with these lenses you're talking about) would require an external monitor. If you're not using a follow focus and instead focusing by hand before you take your shot, what's to stop you from looking close at the LCD or even through the EFV to get a clear view of your focus? Until relatively recently that was pretty much the way it was done on smaller gimbals like this anyway. On top of all that though you're talking about setups that are getting far too large and heavy in most cases for a gimbal like this so it wouldn't even apply here.
      What is the answer you are looking for? Not sure honestly

    Gudsen warranty covers all defects in materials and workmanship for all products sold by Gudsen.com.”
    “The policy described below applies to products purchased directly from Gudsen. Please keep your original proof of purchase, receipt, or sales order to exercise these policies.” So if you get it from another retailer apparently you’re out of luck. Scott Dumas I agree with you, this isn’t my first gimbal, they all have issues. The better brands will take care of those issues though. That’s the difference here. Lots of reviewers have links to ebay and other stores. So when they’re funneling people to places to buy that will then not allow them to have a warranty I see that as an issue too. Just trying to raise awareness so someone else isn’t unpleasantly surprised like I was when my two week old purchase wasn’t covered.

    • @ScottDumas

      That makes sense, and I totally get that. Without looking I honestly can't remember if I have Amazon links or Moza links in this video description, but typically I just put what I have available to me because that is one way to make a living on this platform and keep things going (and feed my kids, haha).
      But, while I can't speak for others, I would never intentionally mislead or advise someone in a direction that would screw them over just to make a few bucks, so if you ever find anything that comes across that way on my channel please do let me know about it :) It may sound dumb but I really appreciate your politeness with this comment; you wouldn't believe the number of people who can't make a negative comment without sounding like I personally took their first born son lol

    • @cluUser
      @cluUser 5 лет назад

      Scott Dumas You’re welcome 😂 no worries! I know you and others aren’t intentionally doing it, Maybe I’ve been spoiled by other companies so it never crossed my mind that regardless of where you bought something it wouldn’t be covered unless it was old and past a Warranty date. I’m usually willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. I know I would have either purchased from them or a different brand if I’d known. So I’m trying to get it out there so people can make an informed decision. For me the charger they included started melting and was starting to burn paper around it. My family was supposed to be out of the house but were running late so they caught it once they smelled it and saw the smoke!

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 лет назад

      Oh damn, I'd say that's a serious malfunction! Really glad you caught that. Was it that the charger was plugged into something too powerful like a quick charger?
      To be honest I have the absolute worst habit of never keeping my warranty information for anything, and there have definitely been times I wish I did. But, because of that I don't usually notice unless it's a bragging point of the company like Tamron's 6 year warranty or Blackrapid's replacement program for worn out straps.
      Either way, I appreciate it again and do hope that you're able to work out the issue because warranty or not that's different from something that just broke from being used or whatever.
