@@SaturnJap depends on FMV quality, PS2 didn't have the level of FFVIII or Tekken's hair physics on FMVs but in-game graphics were very close otherwise.
I grew up with 90's CGI but I honestly don't miss it much (remember that really weird MK1 cartoon? Anyway) I do miss pre-rendered backgrounds though, nowadays it would look super amazing, a shame after PS2 no one used it anymore

I agree wholeheartedly. such an awesome design team. I think they spent a lot of money on Angel of Darkness so they have to shut down when it did not do so well. It sold pretty well though. I am not sure completely why they shut down. But they were phenomenal on the PS1. Ninja is a fun game, and I kind of enjoyed Deathtrap Dungeon and Fighting Force.

Her aristocratic elements were her worst elements. Lara had a lot more to offer than 'class' (a word which is not entirely disentangled from 'social class'). I agree, it sucks that we don't make the games here in Derby any more, but that's how globalisation works. We don't make our own steal. We don't make most of our own media representations. It's none of the companies faults. The music in the new game is great, though I admit that there is no need for the lack of signature music, especially the classic theme. Lara is my favourite video game character, but she was also incredibly flawed. Her personality often didn't amount to more than cheesy one liners, her wealth was used to make her seem cool (as though rich people are better than poor people), she was too superhuman, and she wasn't a serious archaeologist. These are all things that have been worked on for the new games. I don't know exactly what you think is missing?

There is a very similar scene in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, the second Angelina Jolie movie, where she decodes the Orb aboard that Chinese family's houseboat and sees images leading her to Africa. It would appear this cutscene may have served for the inspiration for that scene.

I always loved this intro and wish it had made it into the game properly. It shows so much of Laras character without any need for action or dialogue or an over-flattering camera angle. All we need here is a magnificent set piece, some colorful and interesting environments and an effortlessly beautiful and capable Lara to make us want to explore whatever mysteries are about to unfold before us 😊❤️🔥
I wish they could remake the whole series (including the angel of darkness which can be fixed and updated) with all the music and gameplay. Maybe it will be a hit, if not I would still pay.
TR classics are better compared to the new ones... i noticed that most of the games today are similar.. like shoot and survival or sumting... UNCHARTED, HORIZON DAWN, RISE OF THE TR... the gameplays are all the same.. this type of TR makes you feel like an adventurer and a real ARCHEOLOGIST.. the new ones are just plain like hack and slash thing... too bad... and PS: i prefer the old LARA compared to the new one...

FMVs were such a treat as a kid, like a reward for slogging through bad graphics, they felt like movies. Nowadays they look garbage but at the time we were gagging for smooth "high res/poly" graphics.

Remember, people, Tomb Raider only has 6 games. The one’s created by CORE Design, and they are Tomb Raider I-VI (Angel of Darkness). The one’s made after that game were by Crystal Dynamics and they single handedly killed the franchise. Legend/Anniversary/Underworld doesn’t even come close to being “classic”, just more tolerable than the sh!tty 2013-2018 games
Yeah I agree. Crystal really screwed up the identity & legacy of TR quite badly. The last 2 or 3 games are so far removed and simplified from the original series that I couldn't even stand more than 15 mins of it. Even the character was butchered by Crystal.
This footage was probably promotional video made for the press, and I think it is from 1995 or older. You can see images of this footage in the November 1995 issue of Die Hard Game Fan magazine.

Because of my nostalgia for this series of games, I enjoyed this one clip more than anything being offered today by any studio. The video game industry is in SHAMBLES, and the AAA publishers could learn a thing or two from the golden age of video games.

I always missed the Core era of Tomb Raider series and I'd say the Core era of Tomb Raider series is probably the best but not Angel of Darkness which is a very disappointing one. I think this was from an early development stage before the game's plot was finalised. This features Laura Cruz if I am not mistaken, she was eventually changed to Lara Croft.
Even though this has what would be considered "bad cgi" by today's standards, it still feels incredibly immersive, like i almost feel like I'm in that hotel room with Lara. This is also dripping with atmosphere, it's such a shame it was cut.

I'll bet this was extremely fascinating back then. While I was born in 2002 and grew up with stuff like COD and sonic colors, this is still pretty interesting.

more like stolen from the original for 2013 fan fiction trilogy. not sure how ur getting that vibe though since 2013 is a carbon copy of shutter island.

Remember, people, Tomb Raider only has 6 games. The one’s created by CORE Design, and they are Tomb Raider I-VI (Angel of Darkness). The one’s made after that game were by Crystal Dynamics and they single handedly killed the franchise. Legend/Anniversary/Underworld doesn’t even come close to being “classic”, just more tolerable than the sh!tty 2013-2018 games
Yeah I agree. Crystal really screwed up the identity & legacy of TR quite badly.
The last 2 or 3 games are so far removed and simplified from the original series that I couldn't even stand more than 15 mins of it. Even the character was butchered by Crystal.
This footage was probably promotional video made for the press, and I think it is from 1995 or older. You can see images of this footage in the November 1995 issue of Die Hard Game Fan magazine.
I don't have sound ATM, but after seeing this honestly I'm surprised (and curious why) it went unused... I wonder if there were others. I love the vibe of the setting here.
Because of my nostalgia for this series of games, I enjoyed this one clip more than anything being offered today by any studio. The video game industry is in SHAMBLES, and the AAA publishers could learn a thing or two from the golden age of video games.

I always missed the Core era of Tomb Raider series and I'd say the Core era of Tomb Raider series is probably the best but not Angel of Darkness which is a very disappointing one.
I still don't care Tomb Raider franchise is owned by a Swedish company Embraer Group AB and I never will.
Anyway Tomb Raider 1 is one of my favourite Tomb Raider games in the series.

I think this was from an early development stage before the game's plot was finalised. This features Laura Cruz if I am not mistaken, she was eventually changed to Lara Croft.
It's a lengthy cutscene to be remove! So sad... They could've remaster it and included it in the latest trilogy release

Even though this has what would be considered "bad cgi" by today's standards, it still feels incredibly immersive, like i almost feel like I'm in that hotel room with Lara. This is also dripping with atmosphere, it's such a shame it was cut.

Yes, there is a scene in Cradle of Life where she does something very similar with the Orb aboard a Chinese family's houseboat and sees images leading her to Africa.
This came out only a year after Toy Story, and despite only having a small team of people to work on the fmv's, compared to the huge team Toy Story had. It general looks pretty good.
