In the early sixties, our family took a trip to New York City. We visited the RCA facilities there. They had a sound effects studio set up and we stood in an adjacent room. There was glass and a curtain was drawn between us. They put on a short radio play with sound effects. Afterwards, they opened the curtain and showed us how they made the sound effects. Something i haven't forgotten in over 60 years.
Staging A Radio Drama In 1923 1930pm 12.5.24 i like RCA... and radio pictures.... RKO.... how those guys listened to radio and how we now listen to radio - it's worlds apart...
Many years ago I stumbled across my very first radio show while thumbing through some Christmas CDs. Kraft radio show with Bing Crosby, 1944. Up til then I never knew old radio shows existed. That started me on an active collection of Jack Benny, Fibber McGee and Molly, the Shadow, Richard Diamond, Nero Wolfe and more. I'll be forever grateful for that first CD. I even appreciated the original commercials. I sometimes wonder if the radio players had any idea that long after they were gone new generations would still be enjoying their work. Great stuff!
I am a member of the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company - we have been reviving audio drama since 1986. We routinely perform live performances at region Science Fiction conventions.
