Adaptability of humans is truly remarkable. I can't imagine being stuck down there alone though. Especially without any entertainment other than music and books.
Homeless guy here. Isolation is not for everyone. I’ve gone long periods of time with no contact, just books. It’s doable but not ideal. We are social creatures. You have to be or become a psychopath to endure it indefinitely. What this guy did was undoubtedly harmful.
This explains a lot, for me at least. In the1980's I was a photographer and darkroom tech for several newpapers, starting with the college weekly. I loved the darkroom work and developing my skills in photography, but my sleep cycle got seriously warped. Slept for18 hours once, and the darkroom seemed timeless.
😂😂 so sickly true I have to laugh... I've cried too hard these days.. 90%of the population are animal stock . So true... Humans are showing their true nature..I can't handle it .. Mostly is because no one will talk about it or so detached they don't want to. They are afraid too.. no doubt.
It’s interesting how the most advanced species on earth feel “powerless” without knowledge. Our greatest fear comes from the unknown and is even a primal fear for humans. Really puts things in perspective
Most advanced? You involuntarily adopted a language which rapidly habituated . You know that you are not telepathic, this does nothing to diminish the vague insights right? You don't control it's orchestration, this does nothing to your values. Did humans also "invent" the anatomic faculty? You are evolutions sock puppet because you are self-rightous, anything which exposes the obvious is stated "illusion". I don't think "in words" just be "on emotion" (meaningless). Right? Advanced creature.
Because all through our evolution our ancestors knew that what you didn’t know could kill you. For most of our history we were the prey not the predator.
And we classify ourselves as above animals or merely the "animalistic instinct" as we can interpret, govern, and describe to others our feelings and thoughts; yet we basically are kinda useless without knowledge XD
Power and knowledge are very different things, but in our world such things as "are" and "aren't" often don't fully apply. But energy more focused is energy more powerful. Part of what makes us so dominant, is that we can think deeper than others. We can understand, instead of just knowing. We can choose to focus our power. But all too often we fail to understand on the levels which matter, fail to focus on complicated things. Even though true power comes from collective action we fail to see the full picture of how individuals and communities intertwine.
11 days menstrual cycle?!?! omfg The poor, poor lady. Her hormones must have wreaked complete havoc on her emotions and brain. omfg That's way too intense for words. I could never. Bless her for putting herself through that. 😢
I spent a year in the hole in prison. The difference was there was a bright light directly above me when I slept. No books no clothes no toilet paper nothing Xcept three meals a day. A single day would feel like a week. Some days I slept all night and day skipping meals. All you long for at first is human companionship. After a year all I longed for was my neXt meal, I had given up on everything else. The Xman
when i was there, i was fortunate to have a window :D i was sick at the time so i spent the whole time in my room i learned to waste time by doing literally nothing unfortunately because of that the days fly by like crazy
I work in a command center. It's a dark room with a lot of tv and computer screens, camera feeds, and phones. I work a 12-hour shift. Some nights go on for eternity, some nights go on for what feels like a few hours. You don't have a concept of time, just that you know certain things need to be done when the clock on the wall reads those numbers. I also experience weird shifts in sleep cycles, working overnights for so long. I can stay up for long periods of time, sleep for very little, and sometimes it's the opposite. I end up mainly living at night, but I end up awake during the day sometimes too. It wouldn't be so bad if banks, post offices, dentist offices, doctors, grocery stores, etc. were also up at those weird hours.
The title was very misleading… the entire video I was waiting to hear how living in darkness would affect the mind (I need this information for a story); only to find out that… the test subject was living in isolation, not in darkness, with artificial lights to assist him during his wakey time. Entirely different subject matter… Artificial lights… are still lights. It doesn’t count as living in darkness. This renders the title completely irrelevant and is annoying. Well, no hard feelings. Wish you the best in all future endeavours… And have a beautiful day
Ye same dude I just watched Third Wave experiment and I quickly subscribed him and jumped to this, btw what an interesting channel he has its really creative way to make things spokey yet having an underline psychological case studies of human behaviour
Some peoples live so north that theres no light for 4,5 months. At summer sun wont set at all so theres day that lasts 2 months. So darkness is normal for some of us. Greetings from northern Finland.
Well, this essentially amounts to the dreaded solitary confinement in prisons, right? Punishment so feared, that even company of murderers in a cell seems preferrable. No wonder folks get crazy, if they have nothing to keep them busy.
For the sake of argument, the human form is a biological clock in a bunch of ways so if you're actually in tune with being blind, it's not entirely foreign to have to rely on other methods of measurement. Like how does a blind person know if their nails or hair need to be cut? Because time has passed and it became noticeably different, just like finding new lines on your face. It's rather instinctive if you've thought about it before (I've thought about it a lot, I used to challenge myself to get up, open my bedroom door, walk downstairs, locate my glass, get to the fridge, fill up my glass without overflowing, drink it, put it down gently, and go back to bed all while keeping my eyes closed and focusing on my other senses. I also have actively practiced using my feet to grab things, so I'm probably just a weirdo lol)
This was a very informative episode. I appreciate your dedication to research and the hard work and time you put into each of these episodes. Be Well Eniqma
If you wanna boost dreaming, wear a step 1 nicotine patch to bed. I'm quitting smoking rn, and wearing the patches (I wore them before when I tried unsuccessfully to quit in the past), and it never fails to boost my dream recall. The dreams are so vivid and real, too! It's literally like my life is playing out like some kind of movie or something. I'm always myself, but in a different scenario, with different situations and different people, and different aspects to reality. Sometimes it's a dream world, sometimes it feels as real as ordinary life. Anyway isolation has been proven to be one of the worst psychological things a person can endure, maybe save for being brutally m*rdered.
This reminds me of the song “Something in The Way”… I live like this almost every day. Daylight, darkness, means nothing to me. I do my daily tasks and then there is nothing left. Nobody to talk to or see. It’s horrible… it’s hell.
I feel so bad for the mice...just cause their noises were annoying in their own home they were all killed.... and the fact that he probably could've tamed the mouse but was too careless and brutal, breaks my heart. (I've tamed timid mice before)
I understand the anxiety of no knowing the time from a less extreme level. When I was at the mental hospital, we didn't have clocks in our bedrooms. There were sections of the day were we couldn't leave our rooms, so I didn't know what time it was. One night I woke up and started reading. A nurse came into my room. She said I should wait to read in the morning. I thought it was morning. It was technically morning. 12 am to be exact. I came home with new fear, not knowing the time. I don't like being in a room without an clock or way to know the time.
i do not work since 1,5 years so i go to sleep when i feel sleepy and sleep as long as i want or can. i became night active and sleep approx, 4 hours from 6 to 12 and then again 4 hours after lunch/breakfast or as you want to call it.
I had a 48hr sleep cycle once, I’d go to work, get zero sleep, work again, then finally sleep, go to work late, then not be able to sleep again, rinse and repeat.
12:55-More mental activity during the day makes the brain more active during the night as well, which can cause more dreams, and that makes the brain get used with being active. What can ruin this tho is getting woken up by outside factors, like the alarm clock waking you up for school or work.
Time is only a measurement of distance. It's what we call orbiting. How long/ how far is it around the sun in an orbit from start point and around back to start/ finish. Ah, you are one of those. I bet you are always there for a school of thirsty mosquitos, running naked towards them so that those poor beings can be fed. I know such people. Funny part is, that they still have pets, like dogs and cats, which they keep to have a company because they can't stand the company of people.
Yeah his big mistake was that he wanted a cave to be his living room. Maybe if he treated the cave like its a cave then it wouldnt have turned so horribly
Interesting. I am a person who is awake around 32-48 hours "a day" until I sleep for 6-8 hours but can stay awake without drugs longer when wanted. Probably 99% of the time I dream and remember it, even if I consume THC. For years I had a theory that humans would stay awake longer with another day and night circle, but we behave this way because it fits our environment. So these experiments kinda proved my idea, especially because I prefer darkness over light and avoid bright sources as much as possible. To all tinfoil hat enjoyers, I am not a vampire.
I remember reading the book review for Veronique’s book in the 80’s. Even then I thought that was such an odd decision she made, to use her menstrual cycle as a reference. For thousands of years human females have been able to manipulate their cycles through diet, lifestyle, health and sickness. Most indigenous tribeswomen in the Amazon and in sub Sahara areas only cycle about twice a year. But along comes the French hippie chick trying to fit a square peg in a round hole… Plus she probably suffered from depression or mood imbalances or some other borderline psychological condition. Pretty obvious to me she wasn’t all in her right mind even before she went down there.
