If I can make you step inside at range they're perfect, but it's VERY unlikely. In that situation you either want to just control the inside, or if kicks are still working throw back kicks instead so you're moving towards my kick.

If I control outside foot position in the opposite stance how viable are rear side kicks to follow crosses and lead hooks instead of a teep?

Your footwork on the bag will be the same each time. The step will be different each time when fighting, it all depends on the timing and range.
