My grand daughter dated a young man right after she graduated from college. He had played football, basketball, was on the varsity swim team, rna track ie: sprinter and ran hurdles. He was scouted my NFL but was too small at 6ft 4in and 225lbs. So he began a program add bulk. He intensified his cross training and ate as many as 6 meals a day. He finally got his weight up to over 245lbs or so of solid muscle. He was massive. He was scouted, drafted, contracted. He play most of one season and sustained a knee injury that took him out of the game entirely. That kind of thing happens so often. There are only so many teams, so many players and huge numbers of young men vieing for every position. They sure need to have a backup plan if their goal is NFL.

5:20 NFL teams that are generally what I would call the most hardcore fan bases are Philly, Buffalo, and Cleveland. They also tend to be more blue collar, working class, manufacturing based towns. All three cities have a pretty big Irish immigrant presence...especially Philly and Buffalo. Chicago and Boston also have massive Irish populations, but in general, I'd say their fan bases while still intense, they don't match the level of crazy that Philly, Buffalo, and Cleveland have.

One cool aspect of being an NFL fan, is a lot of people have a favorite NFC team and a favorite AFC team.
Dave's definitely an Eagles kind of guy, Dez is a Giants sort, and Mike looks like a Cowboys fan.
Plus, they're all NFC East, so they'll play each other 2x a year, and you'll have lots of chances to hold wins over your pals.

My Blokes NFL team assignments (lol)
*CONMAN* - New England Patriots - pragmatic, proven, dependable, established, respected, and w a dry cheeky mentality. Both divorced from love of their life... lol
*MANCON* - Buffalo Bills - Loyalty, Persistence, Effort, Always wins the hard way, tries to bully the bully, asserts their opinion, rarely just offers it. Their own breed.
*Mike* - Minnesota Vikings - A bit passive aggressive, knows what they like and don't, but are open minded to new changes. Carry themselves w a certain level of integrity, fairly reserved and w stoicly soft spoken mentality, very respectful, say a lot w little words. Come in second and third a lot, and never seem to get the one break they need to win it all, but are always brimming near the top on average.
    How'd I do? Lol
PS... you dont want to be an eagles fan if you value respect and appreciation from others. Lol. Seriously, Eagles fans are known for disrespecting everyone and not holding back their feelings about your team and their dillusions about theirs. Oh and getting into fights w anyone against the Eagles. The accents are not exactly charming to say the least... think about it, would you actually appreciate or want to deal w the shit they do on Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Eating roadkill and hunting homeless guys that should be on Ninja Warrior? Doubtful... lol

I am an old ex-american footballer that played up to college. Jukes happen mostly because the defense is trying to drive the ball carrier to the sidelines. They count on if a cutback happens that his help will be there. That's how most defenses are designed anyway. Really not much different than english football CB playing the attacker a certain way and if they cut back they've got the other CB or Fullback to help;.

Find something you like (or relate to) (for example, Daz likes the Giants because they are 'blue' and that matches his favorite UK football/soccer team's colors (Manchester City w.f.c.).
Maybe you like their symbol, maybe you love their highlight reels, maybe you like the state itself... Find out who their coach is (the coach+school sets the mood of the team), find out what kind of team they are (some teams are Defensive tough, hard guys) (some teams are dynamic throwing, "go for big plays" styles), etc.
BYU and Northwestern are elite academic schools, so they tend to have more organized, not rowdy fans. Miami is a wild city so their team has more black players with lots of dynamic showboating... Read about (or watch videos about) each team and find something that grabs your attention/interest. (imho)
There is a city in the US called Manchester that is in New Hampshire.
Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire , Rhode Island, and Vermont are all part of New England, therefore are represented by the New England Patriots (NFL team).
PS- Sorry Daz, it was just a joke. I know you like Manchester City F.C. (when I googled it, w.f.c. was right there, and I couldn't resist). No offense intended. Hope Dave and Mike got a laugh out of it.
PPS- Dave: of course you can look for an NFL team to support using the same method. (style of play, coach, state/location, team logo/mascot, uniform colors, etc.). Good luck.
Personally I have 3 NFL teams I like (states where I lived + my father's favorite team). Whichever is playing on that day is who I am rooting for. It only becomes and issue when they play against each other.
Last NFL Superbowl: I was kind of rooting for Tampa because I wanted to see if Tom Brady could win a SuperBowl without the New England Patriots (proving it was not just the team, it was his own skill) / But I really like Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs quarterback). He is still only 25 and a very dynamic quarterback (he WORKS to make plays happen). It was a fun game to watch because either win would make me happy.
Plus, you just have to love Rob Gronkowski! The man is a beast, and funny as hell on top of that.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the team to root for in the NFL, but I am biased having been a fan since I was 8 years old and I'm now 50.
They usually field a dominant defense and are in the hunt almost every year. We haven't had a losing season in 18 years, put it that way. And the Pittsburgh Steelers are only one of two teams with six super bowl championships. They were the first team to six. Tom Brady got the Patriots six.
