I love taunting, It’s a very physical and dangerous game, there needs to be allowance for players to be naturally emotional. Whether it is anger, frustration, or celebration

I'm totally with you. Show what you feel if it's genuine. If it gets to where everyone is sitting around waiting on you, then I'll pass, but it's more because it starts to get corny. If it's authentic -- have at it!

I'll add one caveat. If taunting gets you punched in the face, then you should get tossed too for instigating.
When it comes to my pro sports sensibilities, I like the 80's UM Hurricanes:
Step 1. Tell them you are better than them.
Step 2. Demonstrate being better than them.
Step 3. Remind them of steps 1-2.
      🤣🤣🤣

Maybe someone can tell me why I’m wrong, but I’m a lifelong NFL fan and I think most taunting and celebration calls are lame. As long as it’s not disrupting the game I think calling penalties for it is bullshit and gives refs too much power to sway the game for no real reason.

The taunting rule is super subjective and as such the calls can be really controversial. I don't think what was shown in this montage all got called for taunting. If so, there would be a taunting call (or two or three or four etc.) on every play of every game, against both offence, defense and special teams, and from the side lines, from the fans, and announcers and the mascots, maybe even the refs could get called!

Dave: "I wonder what fans think?"
As an NFL fan, people watch the game because it is exciting. Taunting & Celebrations after a Touchdown...
as a fan, I love it. It is fun to watch; that is why we are watching THIS compilation video. (sometimes it is the player throwing the touchdown ball to a fan in the stands - they get heavily fined for that). The referees and owners penalizing the players for doing it is hypocritical.
The owners and advertisers are making MORE money off of having more eyes on the game, but they get to punish the players who worked so hard (endured pain to get there).
The team owners: "OK, go do our bidding.... (but don't get too upitty - Know your place)." -- That's some bullsh:t!
It ALSO gives the referees too much of a way to affect the outcome of a game. The player makes a great run (undeniable), but the referee calls it back 15 yards for "taunting" (Ref: "my opinion was that little move was taunting.")... Let BASEBALL keep all their sensitive prima donnas. THIS is football, you can hit each other; if you don't like it, run faster next time.
(To be clear: I'm talking about Celebrations or Taunting (getting in the other player's head). I am absolutely AGAINST "late-hit" or some cheap shot like that.) If it doesn't physically hurt the other player, that is all part of the game. Gotta be physically AND mentally tough. These are the Pros.
If a COACH wants to punish his own player for SHOWBOATING, that is a different story. If the coach wants to bench a player as punishment, that is fine. If that player's showboating lead to a fumble or a missed touchdown, that is the risk they are putting on their own team ((if successful, it might be a great mood-maker for the team // if they screw up, no one is going to forgive them)). That depends on the coach and his coaching style: some are strict drill instructors, some like to see their star players make big plays and motivate their teammates.

Almost every Football fan hates the taunting penalty. If they didn't hate it because it's already a ridiculous rule. Then they hate it because a taunting penalty, which is a 15 yard penalty, would be the equivalent of an Unecessary Roughness Penalty, a Facemask, or hitting a Defenseless Player. Which are more serious penalties because they can cause actual injuries.

@@jerrypickins I'd rather them take out the rules against hitting QB's, Wide Receivers, etc.. than removing taunting penalties. Players get hit hard (but clean) in the game of play many times and pop right back up from it. I want every player on the field to be safe, but the game is designed for collisions. A lot of the _illegal_ hits are just unavoidable when two players are running full tilt to a spot. A lot are just BS calls (I am speaking about the QB here) that players exploit.Taunting however starts the BS where people start making unnecessary, illegal, and targeting hits (and fights) because of a grudge. Get that shit out of here.

    • @jerrypickins
      @jerrypickins 2 года назад

@@aj897 Not saying it doesn't get old or annoying. Especially with players like Ramsey or Cox. If they want to keep the rule in, which I hope they don't, fine. However, change the penalty yardage to 5 yards. It's mind blowing how you can basically blow up someone's knees, and get a 15 yard penalty only for an offsetting penalty to cancel it out for making a rude hand gesture at another player.

I think there's a line where some celebration of a great play or touchdown is fine, but blatant taunting especially when it goes on too long distracts from the game. It's all totally discretionary on the part of the refs of course and often they are hearing a lot of verbal taunting on the field that may result in throwing a quicker flag when someone scores and then starts pointing at the defensive player or whatever.

7:48 There are fans in this country for decades that don't understand the game well. 😀 9:47 I used to be an NFL fan before a lot of the taunting. Sometimes emotions build & you have to say something to the guy that has been 'keying' on you all game. That to me isn't taunting. I don't think running across the goal backwards is either (of course it is meant that way). About the time that more players seemed to be practicing their back flips & dances more than the game plan, I pretty much gave up watching. Of course that year there was an NFL strike too. I hear the NFL rules now don't like the choreography after the touchdown either. But I have switched now to College ball. And it is starting to do the same thing. Real, blatant, taunting is a waste of time & should carry a penalty.

Don’t forget the people that make/edit these videos are bias. There are way worse taunts than these. 💯 For instance a few years ago the Tennessee Titans stood on the Ravens logo during a pregame huddle and the Coaches even got into a minor altercation the Titans eventually defeated the Ravens in the game. Exactly 1 year later the Baltimore Ravens played the Titans in the playoffs in Tennessee and there was a game winning interception for the Ravens to win the game the entire team ran to the middle of the field and celebrated on the Titans logo as a form of payback. They got fined obviously but the revenge had to have been worth it. The NFL has since put a clamp on premeditated team taunting based off that incident alone. These videos are a microcosm of how it really is.
