Kevin Rowland, Wolverhamptons finest! Born just yards from where I live in Wednesfield. We used to see him at the Wolves games home and away in the mid to late 80s, always on his own but always gave us a sheepish wave when we used to chant 'Geno-Geno-Geno' wherever we saw him!
Used to go to Sheffield Wednesday matches dressed in a woolly hat and my dad's NCB jacket aged 15, bumfluff tache et al in the early 80's and endured plenty of ironic 'Geno' chants!
Just brilliant. I still love the 1st album after all these years, and I don’t think I’ve seen these songs performed by the original line-up before. Raw, tight and soulful. And the intensity!
I seen Dexys perform this in 1980 at a club in Liverpool called Gatsby’s where they performed all their up coming Searching for the Young Soul Rebel material, I loved that gig that much I’ve been slightly disappointed ever since and I’ve seen everyone, Kevin’s haunting soulful voice full of angst and despair echoed millions of youths lost in the cracks of Thatcherism and the horn section was fierce as was the Hammond organ
lee harman I second that. Awesome you got to see such a performance. I’ve personally just got into them the past month. Always known come on Eileen of course all my life and loved that track. So glad I’m getting into all their stuff now. Personally for me I love the two albums after searching for the young soul rebels as well... do you think if the band didn’t leave he wouldn’t have changed the sound? I thought maybe that would have happened anyway. Are the performances not as good on the albums after this or is the change of sound you didn’t like? Personally I enjoy it all. Would love to hear your opinion!
Cammy's Comet All their albums were brilliant.I think Kevin would’ve changed direction anyway because you can only keep up being a force of nature and against the injustices of the world for so long or you’d blow a gasket and be no good to anyone, inevitably we get older and cynical once we realise we’re only swimming against the tide politically, as theres no real democracy. So out went the cool On the Waterfront style Marlon Brando esque donkey jackets and beenie hats and in came the Gypsy look complete with neck scarfs and dungarees, I view the second coming of Dexys as a completely different band and vibe, especially having seeing them on The Southport Theatre in 82, rather like the Jam becoming The Style Council etc. Only a few like Madness remained the same. Thanks for your question
Dexys fast and furious full of attitude but vision for later in life, Kevin Rowland you kept us craving for more throughout the years even now I am still waiting for more meaningful songs from the greatest showman this country has witnessed no one compares never will
This is not from the tv-show Måndagsbörsen (which was recorded än broadcasted on mondays), but from another contemporary tv-show, called Bälinge byfest, which was broadcasted on fridays.
Play the video and watch at the bottom right of the screen, 19 seconds in from the start, I actually put the correct name of the show, but for some reason I must have gotten mixed up when I typed the title into RUclips, its all correct now.
@@ScottishTeeVee my god i remember in the 80's how much i wanted a tape of the smiths live i would have paid a lot of pocketmoney for it, it is easy to forget how cut off from media we were back then

Magnificent. Kevin Rowlands is an absolute genius. Just found this and it takes me back to the Davenport Theatre, Stockport in 1982. What a concert.
Glad you found this and enjoyed it and thanks for commenting Paula

Thank you to the Scandinavian and German TV companies for preserving this British music which was deleted by the snobby and penny-pinching BBC
Or David Attenborough, as he's otherwise known.

Fair old line-up there-may just have paid the bar a visit when Phil Collins came on though!
what tape did you give to the swedish guy???
No idea. With tape trades, I would choose what I wanted from a traders list and in return the chose what they wanted from my list

As great they were, Dexy's still paled in comparison to Geno Washington himself and his Ram Jam band
True
Sax man Geoff JB Blythe came from that band indeed
