This was absolutely amazing. What a great video.
Thanks Matthew! We are looking forward to releasing the unboxing and build videos soon!
Awesome video bro I really enjoyed this. Was driving with this in the background very ifnormative
Glad you liked it!
You explain things really well! Thank you so much!! I now have a clear idea of what and where I may build my own computer as well!
This video has been so helpful in building my dream pc. Thanks folks!
Glad to help!
this video is very well made. Flows nicely and the info is useful.

We appreciate that feedback.
Very, very good information! Best real help out there at this time.
Glad it was helpful!
This is really helpful thank you
This is so informative and really concise! Thank you for this video
Thanks for the great comment!
This is one of the best videos i've ever seen

Thanks! Good luck to you!
Great video ... answered a lot of my questions. Big Ups!
Thank you for that!
Great video. Learned a lot.
Great feedback!
Great vid.. been looking for a vid like this for a while!
Amazing explanation!
Thanks for that!
wow i was really confused about hardware but your video helped a lot thank you
You're welcome!
Great video. A Christmas wish from Denmark. Please make an updated 2021 video about this :)
There have been so much/many new cool hardware releases the last 6 month. But which releases fits perfect for Premiere and After Effects ? ;)
I really liked this video, i want to make a rig for After Effects, and the budget its always a thing to get in mind, and the page puget it really get you on track on what you need to focus, in my case CPU/RAM, thanks!
Thanks so much! Happy building!
Wow u nailed it ...in your video I got the things that I wanted 😊😊😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️thank you soooo soo much
Glad to hear it.
Great videos; this one and the recent one with the Ryzen 3000 series processors.
I'm primarily a Premiere Pro use, and has a question on the storage; what I currently have is similar to what you suggested and the starting point, an NVME SSD for the OS/Premiere, and footage is on a mechanical HDD. Planning to add 1 more SSD, so based on your suggestions, should that go to the Premiere media cache, or should be for the media to be stored on? With 2 SSDs and a HDD, what do you suggest?
Great video. I am using Edius 8.5 but will be changing to Premier Pro 2020. My GPU will not be good enough for Premier, what would you recommend. It will only be used in a domestic situation but I want it to be able to cope with 4k. It must be capable of 2 working monitors and one output monitor. What would you suggest? Many thanks
Man I keep coming back to this vid for refference, so goooood. Can you elaborate a bit more on drives config?
Im runing a small M2 for OS Ae Pr, a SSD for "raw footage" and a HHD for exporting and storage. I was aiming for a second SSD for exports only hoping to seepd up the process.
However, you recomend SSD1 for OS Pr Ae. M2 for cache only. SS2 for exporting, and a HHD for storage? IS that still a thing?
Nice! really good video
Thank you!
Outstanding video.
Thank you very much!
hey in after effects if i build the exaxt same pc you have will it run after effects without laging at all and with every plugin you install will work with no laging

Hi Abbas, the computer build series is finished! You can watch all three videos in this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLwTO3073OVYTw7h5-J8Vi2qw4_MMgNTpV
I've been watching many RUclips videos and articles, since I am planning to build a new PC (for mainly work).
Your video is the most informative out there and I finally could decide what I need / don't need. - Straight to the point and we'll explained.
Thank you very much.
I only wished the color grading of your videos would be bit better... Just by the looks, I almost click away because I thought it was an older video.
Great buddy!

Just watched this now, nothing comes close to an blank slate introduction to building PCs and what each part is. Thanks
It looks like Puget Systems is now cooling an i9 13900K with the Noctua NH-U12A. With your experience, do you think that's going to overheat when using Premiere, AE and Resolve? I'm nervous I bought the wrong cooler... or CPU... Any input is much appreciated, thank you. Your videos are so incredibly helpful!
This was a great video. But how would someone who knows nothing about building a computer make this happen? I was hoping for a link to buy an already built computer.
Also how do we get what's usually pre-installed software? And have your recommendations changed over the last 7 months?
Great vid you deserve more subs
Thanks!
Great video...Really dumbed it down for us non computer people. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
As the internet BARELY provides information for AE users, this is very appreciated. What's your experience with using NVMe drives for AE scratch disk? I've read Pudget systems' recommendation but I want to know more since the market grew since and more drives entered. I'm debating whether 970 EVO Plus would be actually better than lower end drives like Crucial P1 and ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro, and would the Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 Gen4 would actually be better than all those (or is it only on paper)
Honestly, I've looked into this a lot as well and haven't seen distinct confirmation either way. It seems like NVME drives, just in general, don't offer a HUGE boost in performance outside of specific use cases.
There are lots of people who debate if your fastest drive should be your projects drive or your scratch disk... and there doesn't seem to be a clear answer.
It's definitely the first thing I would downgrade in this build if I was trying to save money. I would still recommend having some kind of dedicated solid state drive for the media cache, however.
👍 ; but can I buy a good laptop to use adobe ch ; after effects; photoshope and premiere but with extra external hard disks? And if yes how to.
Please and thanks.
Hello neighbor Houston TX here Great video! You just helped me save a ton of money.
Great to hear!
Nice 👍
🙌
Well explained, sir. I've built countless PC's but needed a brush up catered to video editing. As a point of consideration, I would say that my previous knowledge allowed me to understand the nuance you are referring to across the video, and I appreciate it. Maybe...explain it to the fifth graders, in the future. I don't say that for myself, I only mention it because I like what you're doing and I want you to do more. I do appreciate the info, nicely done.
Thanks for the comment Brian! Agreed that more and more young people are building computers and we are glad to see if we can help them in the process. Have a great holiday.
Great video with awesome content. I have a better idea on how to get started with a system to run premiere pro.
I hope you can make a video about getting a silent video editing.
All i can buy is a ryzen 5 3500h and nvidia 1650.? Is it ok??
That’s almost my identical build with the exception of the cpu. I’m still using the 8700 out of my old computer. Looking at getting a 9700k or 9900k.
🔥🔥🔥
this is very informative, great video. One question though, if i were to go with say a 500gb SSD and a 2tb HDD, is it best to store my operating system AND all programs AND project files on the SSD and leave the HDD just for footage? or how do i lay it out?
yes, definitely is better to store your operating system and programs on the higher speed drive (ssd), the speed will help when booting your computer and for running the programs, the footage wont use the speed so save it on to the higher capacity drive which is the HDD
Yeah, I would put your operating system and all your programs on the SSD and then your footage on the HDD.
As far as your "project files" - if you're just referring to the .pproj and .aep files and other small assets - I'd move those to the HDD as well. The speed of where the project file itself is located shouldn't make much of a difference, so I'd keep it together with the rest of your assets and source media. The main thing is to just get your source media (footage, assets, etc.) off of the drive with Windows and Premiere installed on it. The main Windows drive should always be the faster one.
There is another video on our channel about speeding up Premiere and After Effects that goes over this in more detail, so feel free to check that out!
What's your opinion on Sapphire rx 5700xt Nitro?
Thanks in advance.
Great work, keep it up!
The RX 5700xt is definitely a great card, but for the foreseeable future I'd probably recommend an Nvidia card for computers geared towards Premiere and After Effects. Nvidia has definitely worked closer with Adobe to push forward GPU acceleration in their apps, and this really shows in their latest versions of Premiere and AE.
Why you not recommended any thing about mother board
I need a PC for my Instagram edits LMAO
Thanks a lot for this video! Would 250GB nvme be enough for a separate disk cache drive for AE? I'm thinking of Samsung 970 EVO PLUS.
Size is less important than speed, but that way more than enough.
Krane This. If you have the money for it, a SSD that connects to a PCIe slot is the best solution as of right now.
I’m going for a 1tb for an ssd upgrade, I’m going to be working with ae, blender , and possibly element 3D. So I’m hoping my work flow is solid and my program doesn’t crash again . Especially now that I’m going to create bigger projects. I’m also considering a ryzen 9 and maybe a 3080 gpu but it isn’t for sure.
Excellent video! This further justifies my initial impression that Adobe programs are indeed CPU intensive. I built a personal PC (mostly for gaming) that has a mid tier AMD CPU and a top tier GPU. I'm thinking of building one for my wife (who uses Adobe programs for work) with a top tier CPU and a mid tier GPU. Would be interesting to compare both their performances after haha
Can you please list your pc used for both Gaming and Adobe Cc?
@@amukhb8608 Im currently on Ryzen 5 3600, with Radeon 5700XT and 16gb 3466Mhz Ram in dual channel. Getting 120-130fps on COD average (combination of Medium to high settings at 1440p). Adobe Programs Performance is above average. Not the fastest, But workflow is pretty smooth as compared to my laptop ( Dell G5, i7/GTX1060). Not really a scientific comparison, But its what I was previously using and I was struggling with it.
What would you change if you add Lightroom. LRTimelapse, and Photoshop to PP and AE?
Not much, honestly. Photoshop is also well-known to have fairly limited multi-core support as well. The Puget Systems website has plenty of up-to-date benchmarks on Photoshop and similar apps.
So how much the total pc build up cost??
Did you include 128GB of ram? Every update since 2014 seems to double the ram needed to do the same thing as the last update. I have 64GB and constantly get out or ram errors in 2020 on simple projects.
You must be doing something wrong man 😅
💯💯💯
🙏
Dude how do you only have 582 subs? Your like the only person who gets it. I upgraded my i5 7600k with 16GBs of RAM on a Z270 board to a Ryzen 7 3800x and 32 GBs of 3600 MHz G skill trident Z Neo. Now it’s a huge difference no doubt. Now I bought a GTX 1660 and since I have a tech channel and am always buying new and used hardware, I found a great deal in a GTX 1070 which has 2 mor GBs of VRAM. Anyway here’s my main point, I did a video on a Gaming/Streaming/Editing Rig for just over half of your stimulus check and sold it to buy more hardware. Well I included the 1660 in the system and kept the 1070. BIG MISTAKE!! Even tho the 1070 is faster in games the newer Touring Based Card rendered my MOGRTS and Transitions waaaay faster!!! A big noticeable difference. The newer NVENC Encoder on the Touring based cards are just so much faster at Rendering and Exporting. I really regret getting rid of it. BUT I am planing on buying a 2060 Super or a 2070 Super. I use a Corsair MP510 3rd Gen NVMe as my boot drive and an Evo 860 as my secondary drive but I really can’t wait to upgrade my GPU and get a 970 Pro or a 4th Gen NVMe Drive. I’m also considering switching over from my 3800x to a 10900K. I just think the Intel/NVIDIA/Samsung Combo can’t be beat. Would love your thoughts if you get a sec.
Thanks a BUNCH for providing an "easily" understandable (at least for me) explanation of the primary differences between what tasks the CPU, GPU and the RAM handle respectively.
I'm curious though - I'm struggling to enhance both my ram preview and render speed when working with especially Video Copilot Elements 3D. I currently have (on a PC):
- RAM: 32 GB of DDR4 Corsair
- GPU: ASUS NVidia GTX 1060 (6GB)
- CPU: Ryzen 7 1700X
After having watched this video, there's no doubt that I'm gonna double up my RAM to 64 GB - but would an upgrade in GPU help me work in Elements 3D? I'm considering the RTX 2060.
Any advice?
Again, thanks a mil for a great video!
For sure. Additional RAM will definitely allow After Effects more room to breathe, but it usually won't increase working performance unless you were already running out of RAM on a regular basis. It's more like removing a potential bottleneck that could slow down performance instead of actually speeding things up directly. If you feel your computer has unpredictable bursts of low performance, this is something to look into. What it will do is nearly double the amount of stuff that can be in the RAM preview at one time.
Element3D does utilize the GPU more than most other plugins, so you likely would see a sizable boost in performance from upgrading your GPU. That said, this difference likely won't be noticeable in many other places, as GPU acceleration is fairly limited in other parts of After Effects. But if your workflow heavily involves Element3D, getting a better GPU would help.
Best!
That makes so much sense! A bottleneck, of course. Will definitely stress test and monitor my RAM usage.
I haven't been able to find any advice elsewhere about what kind of GPU was necessary for E3D. Would rather not cash out for a Quadro if I could avoid it.
Amazing advice, can't thank you enough.
@@alexanderwengpetersen5288 No problem! A quadro card is definitely not necessary for this kind of work. Any kind of enthusiast gaming graphics card will do just fine, and could even outperform many of the quadro cards in this task.
@@alexanderwengpetersen5288 Quadro is not even the best option for heavy 3d rendering (using the most common engines like Octane and Redshift). Quadro is mainly used for very specific 3D modeling work, which benefit from Double Precision Floating Points calculations which gpus like Quadro provide. Unless you do that kind of industrial/architectural 3D modeling, no need for that at all. All other 3D needs will be more than fine with (Nvidia) gaming cards.
@@gd5158 Thank you very much for that contributing comment - I must admit that I know very little about heavy 3D modelling, but either way I've found it quite difficult to grasp the differences between a standard gaming card and a Quadro. Thank you for further confirming the point.
U have a sooper script writer, man.
Thanks!
How much was this pc project ? Would like to kno
All together, the parts in this video total up to about $2500. Having a system builder like Puget put together a nearly identical system would cost around $3500.
That said, there are many parts that can be downgraded if you're on a tighter budget. It's really just the general principles in this video (high clock cpu, not overspending on GPU, and the storage configuration) that are the most important for maximizing your performance at any given price point.
Amazing, but can I also use it to play games?
Definitely - with the GFX card and processor it would be an excellent gaming machine. You probably don't need the NVME drive if games are your primary objective.

Hi bro... Guide me please.... I am having two 1 tb drives...,, One samsung 970 evo plus m.2 nvme and one samsung 860 evo plus 2.5 Inch drive.... Which drive I need to use for os... Nvme or 2.5 ssd
I'd recommend using the regular 2.5 inch SSD for your OS and then the 970 EVO for either your Media Cache or just as a drive to put project files on. While using the Nvme drive for your OS will make the computer boot up faster, you are more likely to get better use out of it as a scratch or project drive. That said... it's probably not going to make a hugely noticeable difference either way. Personally, I use it for Premiere's Media Cache.

No overclocking
No gaming
Only video editing / motion design / graphic design
Need stability reliability
Thanx for advice
No don't go more chip or the vrm gona become very hot 🔥
Why is this video so blurry.
Except if you use something like rendergarden more cores will utterly OBLITERATE an overclocked 9900k
Threadripper 3 or a 3950X is the way to go
That's definitely true, but for a lot of professionals the main issue isn't how long it takes to render, but what the actual day-to-day performance of editing on it is. At the time that I made this video, the 9900k was the king in this regard.
The 3950x is now definitely giving it a run for it's money (and is something I'm happy to recommend), but all of the threadripper chips still remain firmly in the territory of "good for a dedicated rendering computer, not as good for actively editing in After Effects."
Some studios take advantage of this, and have people editing on systems like the one I put together, but then they will sling their projects over to a different computer to render.

Stay helthy all of you .
hey i dont know how they biult 12gb ram or 6gb ram... usually comes with 2,4,8,16 gb...so if youre using 2 rams or more its best to use the exact rams like 4gb x 2 or 8gb x 2 not 4+2 gb or 8+4gb.... or it might not normally worked... and keep in mind that the ddr version is important...ddr4 is way better than ddr3...so the generation of the processor is important 6gen or higher (compatible with ddr4 ram) is better that 3rd ...imho...thanks
if anyone is wondering a 2600 isn’t too good. for simple 1080p editing I’ll do. 4k you’ll be using proxies and at least 32gb will be needed. Even then still not smooth. 3700X Forsure will edit 4k
Can a i7 8700k edit 4k too?
Mohinder Randhawa Yes it can. I recommend the new i7 though it’s basically a 9900K.
The hardware is way ahead of the software, I think thats the real problem. Timelines shouldnt ever be lagging with the state of the art cpus and gpus that are available now.
Oh, for sure. The real bottleneck here is, and always has been, After Effects and Premiere themselves.

In realty the amount of horsepower from any component it contingent on its application. If you need a truck to haul wood paneling or garden supplies then a standard pickup will due. Spending more money for a heavy duty truck won't give you any advantage because your work load is not great enough.
On the other hand, if you use your truck to haul concrete block or landscaping rocks then that HD truck will be a worthwhile investment. Your $1800 CPU is just a waste of money if you don't have any applications that can actually use all those additional cores.
BTW, your computer should be invisible.
Good point. Thanks for the comment.

Is it me or does he say that the GPU is a little under $500 dollars. I just checked his link and it's $995. Did prices go up that much ??
Yes and no. The RTX is now a two-year-old card, so it's no longer in production - driving up prices. When we made this video last year, the RTX 2070 was a little under $500. Since then, it has been replaced by the RTX 2070 Super, and very recently the RTX 3070 . If you were building something this year, I'd recommend using the 2070 Super or (if you can get your hands on it) the 3070.

Of course! I have the same configuration, i5 4th gen 8+8 GB ram, 2gb graphics. But my after effects does not use GC and relies only on CPU. you will face two problems. 1. Render times will be huge 2. Preview will take more time. You will have to scale down your preview window from hd to SD to have a smooth playback.

Premiere Pro has long supported Nvidia’s CUDA cores for accelerating video effects and even improving export times, but this new update optimizes the app to use the separate hardware encoder on Nvidia’s GPUs. It will improve export times for H.264 or H.265 / HEVC codecs. “These improvements are the result of years of collaboration between Nvidia and Adobe to deliver high-quality applications and tools to creators,” says Manish Kulkarni, senior engineering manager at Adobe. “With new support for NVIDIA GPUs on Windows, exports are hardware accelerated leveraging the power of the GPU to make Premiere Pro more powerful and keep video creators productive and nimble.”

yeah video editing pc with intel CPU congratulation son
RUclips just want me to watch me this video.
two weeks after the release of this video AMD caught up.
They absolutely did! The i9900k isn't a slouch or suddenly super far behind by any means, but the the new chips like the 3950x from AMD are very compelling. We're thinking of making an update to this video at some point. This is just the nature of the tech world. :D
There are a number of factors to consider when building a PC for editing, particularly based on your primary software platform. This being a video for Premiere, the choice to use Intel over AMD is warranted - if only for having Thunderbolt connectivity, which AMD doesn't have currently. As a video editor, I'm subject to the whims of whichever drive a client decides to send me and it might be Thunderbolt. If I want to get started as quickly as possible, then I'm ready to start - vs having to copy over potentially terabytes of footage.
As Sparksight mentioned, a great resource to see which processor has better benchmarks, check out Puget Systems. In their estimation, if you're looking for better live playback, Intel is superior. AMD is far ahead in terms of exporting. It's not possible to say one chip is clearly the winner, there are varying degrees.
@@sparksight - A real shame that many of the Software Editors out there are being developed to utilize the power of the GPU - When now AMD and Intel are producing CPUs with huge core amounts that are not even going to be used? - Maybe the dev's did not see this coming? - Imagine what Premiere / After effects / Resolve would run like if they could leverage all 32-threads from a 3950X?
@@albey1816 This is something I've been fantasizing about for many years. But alas... it still seems a far way off.
@@leegardner5634 if you checkout the score on puget systems dated 25-11-2019 you will notice that the 9900k is passed by the AMD 3950x. but i use after effects, premiere and blender. Intel gets beaten seriously on those scores. and indeed it all depends very much on the software your using which proc has the advantage. im not just doing playbacks on premiere, i actually do other stuf too. i will however upgrade to the new 4950x later this year. its my second AMD in 25 years, i always used Intel in the past but cant ignore the current trend. im not even going into the bang for buck discussion.

0:23 - I paused and came to write this - why do you have to look elsewhere while recording? Why not all the time look at camera so viewers feel connected? you are not in somewhere in seminar and you have many camera broadcasting live.
12:40 - Came back to edit this. Great video however didn't find answer I am looking for. You advised to spend few more months going through all online videos and review site to make sure I chose correct hardware. But I already have spent last 4 months reading all reviews and youtube videos, I thought yours going to be last one but yours was worst. Many youtuber give their view saying what is right, but you said go and see more review from other sources.
Why you scare to give your verdict?
puget is pronounced "pyou-jet" for anybody wondering
Are you giving this away :(?

Good video, annoying music. Are smurfs singing in it?
I choose AMD Ryzon 3900 much better.
Nothing more frustrating....I can think of a few things.
You are right. But in the context of building a computer, hopefully this video helps relieve some of the frustration of that process! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
