Having a professional work on your car, as opposed to doing things yourself, actually makes a ton of sense. Your car is crucial to your business, so having a professional do even what others deem as mundane assures that the car will work at optimum performance, and since most professionals guarantee their work, you are protected if mistakes are made.
Jacob, you have done what the average person would have done in this particular situation. A donut will get you to the nearest location that can give you tire service. I was a biology teacher and a mechanic all my life. Loved to work on cars since I was young. You could learn to plug a tire. It's easy, but you were very near a tire shop.
By the way , my cousin's daughter met you and worked at Field of Screams in Lancaster, PA this past season. She was ecstatic. Told me she met one of my U-tubers that was a nomad. You are on the road all the time so I guess you qualify as a nomad.
Everyone has their own skills. Those same people that can change a tire so easily probably couldn't edit and produce awesome videos the way you do. You da man Jacob👊🏻
As an ase certified mechanic over 15 years there’s nothing wrong with how you handled the flat tire. Most new cars don’t come equipped with spares either. You’re not less of a man and you did exactly what needed to be done with the fix a flat solution.
It takes years of misery and thousands of dollars in trial and error to get good at fixing cars. I've been there. But then they change how cars work so your old skills are no longer valid. They do this on purpose to keep you from fixing your car. A few decades ago they invented those star bit sockets and screws to keep you from fixing your car. You had to go to the dealer. Now you can buy the sockets. They're always doing stuff like this. You can't even super-top off your gas anymore. If you do it throws off the computer settings. Leave a little air.
I’ve been subscribed to your channel almost since the beginning. I very seldom comment because well, you have so many comments and I feel your probably overwhelmed. I must say, you did nothing (NOTHING) wrong with the way you handled the flat tire. You are a man and every man has different skills. Your skills are just as important as other skills. Please don’t think anymore about the disheartened comments you received. Keep doing what you do best and leave other things to the experts. On that note, a pump to air up your tires is a good idea. They plug into your car and you can pump up your tires when their low. Very easy. Take care, take a deep breath and move on to more adventures. Please people have more empathy for others and know that we’re all different and that’s a good thing 🤗
Jacob, the 'donut' is a spare. It's sole purpose is to get you to a place where you can get a new tire, or to repair your tire. They're intended to prevent you from being stranded. Not meant to keep driving on it for days. In fact they're only rated for 50 MPH. So in hindsight using the spare 'donut' is preferred over fixaflat because fixaflat will destroy the TPMS sensor inside that tire. Now that you've used fixaflat in it, you'll need to pay a shop $85 or more to replace that sensor. If you're able to physically jack up the car, replacing the flat with the donut and driving it to the nearest repair shop or tire shop is the ideal senerio.
I hate that you let peoples negative comments bother you. You are awesome. Don't waste a second on negative people. Thanks for everything you do to entertain us.
I think Jacob is referring to a full sized spare, as in an extra tire in you car you can put on your car. I have a full sized spare in my car. Like the Jeep Wrangers or Ford Bronco's that have the full sized spare on the back. Some pickup trucks have full sized spare tires under the truck.
Donuts and spare are different. Example is the tire on a jeep you see in the back is a spare tire that is legit a tire with a rim to replace a messed up one. The donut is a little fix to get you to a tire shop to buy a replacement tire. Huge difference. Donuts aren't good to drive around on for much time.
Jacob, you can get a plug kit for your tire, which you can do by yourself; however, you can't patch a tire by yourself because you have to physically take the tire off the rim to get to the inside of the tire to put a patch on the hole. Driving on a tire with that low of air pressure in the tire can damage the inside of the tire. If you put the doughnut on your car, drive on it until you get to an area where you can have your regular tire repaired.
I'm and engineer and mechanic and I can safely say that being mechanically minded has nothing to do with gender. I have known many women more skilled than myself. This "real man" argument is usually a way for small minds to make themselves feel good.
Jacob, my ex husband had no idea about cars either! I was lucky in the fact that my dad was a police officer & he had a brother who was a mechanic. Between the two of them, they taught me how to check tire pressure, top off the fluids, and change the oil or change a flat tire. You're not less of a man because you don't know anything about cars. It might help you to learn a little in case you ever get stuck on a back road somewhere. Wishing you safe travels my friend!
Hey Jacob, Don't let those trolls bother you! They love to put people down to make themselves feel better about their own shortcomings. All of us that love your videos don't care if you can change a tire or not! Just be yourself and don't listen to those jerks.
Jacob, I think you did the right thing. So I wouldn’t sweat it plus she met some nice people that helped you can’t ask for better.. And yes, when I buy a new car, I told him I wanted a regular tire not a donut and they gave it to me. Enjoy your videos. Be safe.
What kind of "man" is concerned about another man's manliness? Real men lift each other up, not put each other down. Keep being yourself and don't listen to anyone! As for the air pump situation, I bought one off of Amazon and it's easily one of the best items I've ever purchased. The one that I bought is by Morpilot and it's about as big as a brick, so it doesn't take up too much space. Have a good day and safe travels!
At the end of the day, you did what you thought you needed to do in the moment. And it worked out. It’s a lot easier to watch something and judge how to handle a situation when you’re not actually in said situation. As for the “spare tire” and “donut” terms, they are usually interchangeable to a lot of people. To other people they may not see them as interchangeable. We don’t all think or call things the same thing… and that’s perfectly fine.
I think you had a problem, you solved the problem, and you went and got your tire fixed. Feels like a win to me. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Plus bonus you got your tire fixed free.
Hey Jacob. I'm a bit of a camera nerd. First camera that comes to mind is the DJI Pocket 3. It's a little unconventional but gives excellent results and really good at vlogging. 1" sensor and fast lens with a good gimbal means great low light performance. It also shouldn't have dust issues because it's a fixed sealed lens. It's compact with lots of cool accessories and grips. You can place it on the ground and it will track you almost 360 degrees walking around it.
Yes I also recommend that camera It has excellent stability for dark rides, and good low light performance. Also I recommend getting a lanyard to put around your wrist so you never drop your camera by accident.
You have a gift Jacob. You are a really good content creator. I agree leave those other things up to the professionals. Let those other people decide to leave or not and we'll be here to watch your videos. To support you and enjoy the great content that makes you The Carpetbagger.
I'm a female mechanic, most of these "manly" types have tendency to mess up their cars doing stuff they have no idea how to do before they bring it to us to fix their mistakes. Don't feel any shame. And yes I've saved a few trips and vacations by being prepared with a air pump and a plug kit, it's something that's very easy to learn and only takes 2 minutes, that's why lots of places don't charge for a plug hoping you'll come back to buy tires when you need them. Fix-a-flat only works for very minor leaks and throws off the balance of your tires. I also have AAA, never waited more then a hour except during the holidays, and when my car died in Cades Cove.
Wooo a female mechanic ,,,, really I’ve never meta legit female car fix …you go girl … what city if you don’t mind ??? So here’s a question why do these car makers leave you no space to like change out alternator or starters … seems I always have to pull a ton of crap to get at the target part ,,, why do they do that crap??? Just to piss me off or what ?.. I love the old 350s or 400s they were so easy to work on …
@@billysarabia5055 The engineers do it to mess with mechanics. Try some German stuff with the starter inside the transmission. Ya I miss being able to sit on my fender well while I worked on my old GMC.
If those manly men knew what you do, they think you'll make them gey... Its always these conservative type(and thats his demographic mix between) that tend to obsess with gender stereo types with men manly man.. women baby makers.., its why culture and society is leaving them in th e stone age with the dinos.. Sure their idea would work, if this was the middle east, living in the caves what not.. For man to obsess what other man does, that doesnt sound manly to me, seems like they like them sexually if anything lol...
A $10 plug kit and a $40 air compressor are a must to carry in your vehicle when driving as many miles as you do. Your vehicle is a tool of your trade. You should at least learn basic maintenance and repairs so that when situations arise on the road you can help yourself. I say all this with much respect for you and your channel. RUclips is also a great learning tool for basic maintenance. 🙏🏼
Baggerism of the day: "I am not in some competition to show off my immense manliness" Well said sir please never change. Lots of us like you for being you and keeping things real. "Baggerism" copyright 2024 all rights reserved.
Jacob don't worry about what people are saying, you done the right thing by going to a Tired Shop, When it comes to Cameras I don't have a clue about them. Big hugs n love to you and Jenn
Absolutely ridiculous that this has to be brought up. Millions of men in the world that arent car savvy. What you did doesn't make you any less of a man. People are Absolutely ridiculous.
I’ve been working at Discount Tire for eight years and I don’t know what these people are saying about being able to patch your own tire. You can put a rope plug in it and hope it doesn’t leak but without a tire machine to get your tire off of the wheel there’s no way to patch a tire.
I feel you handled it reasonably. You got yourself to the nearest place to be repaired properly. A quick plug in a tire would have been as temporary as the donut. Good job.
Hi there carpetbagger you know what enough with the ramblings what you did was the right thing it was a slow leak you brought it to the garage the professionally installed a patch plug which is the best because you are on the road and it's the safest because it's installed from the inside and I'd rather watch you do something more interesting then replying to people who probably wouldn't do it themselves keep up the good work it's Paul from Montreal I enjoy your show
Yes, I think everyone wanted you to put the donut tire on until you found a Tire Shop - Luckily you found the Tire Shop quickly. The fear would be if you ran the tire flat it would destroy the Tire and the Rim. I do not patch or plug my own tires. I would always take it to the Tire place. Love your videos always fun. Hope you have safe travels.
You did just right by what you did. Don't ever listen to the idiots making negative comments. You and Jen are great always put a smile on my face. The thought of you and the camel still makes us laugh so hard. You are just wonderful and do just fine like you are. DO NOT LISTEN TO ASSES!!!!
Mr. Carpetbagger, if you had patched the tire, you still would have needes to add air in the tire. If you jack the car wrong, and it falls, you can die, or damage the car worse if it falls off the jack. You did the right thing in my book. ALSO modern cars have a temporary spare, or donut, put yoj can only go 55mph, and STILL need to fix the flat tire.
There's no way an old woman is taking the tire off, taking it off the rim, vulcanizing the patch, putting it back on the rim, inflating it, balancing it, and remounting it ALL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. Plus, remember, their butts are firmly planted, theyre watching youtube....😂 its like marky mark saying he would have stopped 9/11 if he had gotten on the plane (which he has said).
Hi Jacob, your tire repair decision was perfect, and you deserved the easy, & free tire repair that was done in less than an hour. I would suggest buying a full size spare tire to keep in the back of your car, just incase you need it. Love your channel.
I know of no person that carries tire repair glue ,patches or plugs and attempts a tire repair on the road period ! You did right by stopping at a shop .
I think you did the right thing by letting the professionals patch the tire. There’s nothing wrong with it. Also, I love that your new car is named “Rosebud.” My husband and I say “Rosebud” every time we see a snow globe now since we’ve seen you do it so many times.
I too am incredibly dumb about Cars and I am a card carrying AAA member as well and I do not hesitate to use them. I am good with computers and electronics but Cars are beyond me and I know it and I am happy to compensate someone else to help with those problems. I have also been criticized in very similar ways by others for that.
Jacob to be fair …. The comments were not picking on your manhood …. The main suggestion is that you should have aaa road service, then you must get an air compressor that runs from your car battery , and then keep a can of fix a flat in your car …. You might also keep a gallon of water and quart if oul in you car also ….. you travel a lot of lonely roads and you need the basics ….. forget about trying to change a tire.. thats for the road service … you did the right this time.. you got lucky .. but it got you going …. People are making suggestions because you will get a flat, overheat, need oil sometime in the future ….. your complaints regarding manliness are unfounded … they are just saying that you need to be more cautious
Since you travel alot I would buy a spare rim & tire and put it in the back. My wife has an equinox and mounts hers upright to the side so you'd still have plenty of room for your luggage and such
My dad taught me to change a tire when I was eight or so. Never once mentioned my manliness. I was a kid and I would have told my mom. Then his manliness would be an issue. By the way, I have terrible skill making RUclips videos.
You handled the situation of your tire leaking air far better than I would have! For someone who works in the car majority of the time, I would not have known where to start at all. My dad was the handman, he has since passed so I am on my own now. I shut down when it comes to cars and trust the mechanics to give me the correct information; we all have our own expertise. From your video I have learned about what to do and not to panic! You role modeled how to handle a leaking tire and to keep your cool (even in stress). Honestly I appreciate it and keep being you Jacob!
I have never commented before. You did nothing wrong and people need to get a life and worry about something important. You did exactly what most of us would do!
First off love your content. So I have fixed cars and worked on tires for 8 years of my life Do not worry about patching your own tire. That requires you to remove your tire from your wheel to professionally. Patch a tire, don't worry about that. I think what people was getting on to you is. You put fix a flat in your tire. And you thought it was just going to be fixed. That is only temporary for you to get to a shop same with your spare donut.in your car. I believe you did right for what position you was in.Just the more you drive on a flat tire the more it shreds the inside of the tire. Hope this helps safe travels 🙏
Nobody can be an expert on everything, and sometimes you just have to make the best decision in the moment. In the end, the tire got fixed and you are safe and that is a success. When I have bought tires at Discount Tire the warranty info tells you not to use Fix a Flat/similar products, but they will patch a tire or replace it for free if necessary. I do recommend a tire inflator, the one I have is the Slime brand and they make all different sizes. Way easier to use than the old style, you enter the desired PSI and it stops (although I do recommend checking PSI after.) Cameras- I have never used the Sony you showed but most of my cameras have been Sonys and I have been pleased with them, although I mainly do still photos. My OG Sony from 2002 still works! Current one is from 2012.
Hey Jacob, no worries, your AWESOME!! Get a power station type air pump,, its basically a car battery with built in jumper cables & air compressor for your tires.. about the size of a car battery with a handle to carry it. THANKS JACOB FOR BEING AWESOME!!!
Jacob you really shouldn’t worry about people that are being rude! Most of us understand how hard you are working for us and we love these videos. Also no one drives as much as you and you wanted a permanent fix on your brand new car not a patch job.
I'm with you, Jacob. Let the car or tire professionals take care of your problems. You don't need the added stress. It's what they do for a living. Safe travels 😊
Jacob, your do what you have to do. You have mentioned before that you don't know how to repair your own car. So finding that tire repair shop was a Godsend. That Donut thing is the spare tire but they are for temporary services only.
Sorry i wasn't trying to be critical I was trying to be kind and trying to inform you for the next time you have that problem! Sorry if I came off the wrong way ! I enjoy your content! A lot of people are mislead by the products that are sold in stores!
You can get a 12 volt air compressor for around $25. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and can fit under your seat. Often times you can fill the tire and it's enough to get you home or to a repair shop. It sure beats changing a tire on the side of the road. Tires can be plugged and run on that indefinitely, but even if you plug it, you still need to be able to fill it back up. 😊
Don't listen to other people. I love your videos. About what is happening to you. Please don't let those negative comments get you down. You're a great person.
What you did is perfect fine however if I could give you some advice, I would look into getting a tire plug kit. They are easy to put in and better to use than fix a flat
Hey Jacob, the Sony ZV-E10 would definitely be something to consider. You can buy it in a kit that including a good quality lens. Excellent lowlight and super fast auto focus. Add a "Smallrig" cage which is a metal frame that makes the camera more robust and adds shoes for extra accessories. It also significantly improves the camera grip as well 😊. Good luck!
Wait until you are at that point in life when you walk into the kitchen and can’t remember what you were going in there for. BTW, help me find my glasses.
You can definitely go to a tire shop and purchase an extra tire to keep in your trunk instead of the donut, but you are correct that most cars don't automatically come with an actual spare tire and the donut is a temporary fix just to get you to a tire shop. It might be beneficial to swap out the donut for an actual spare tire since driving is crucial for your livelihood.
It all worked out for the best! Just knowing how to get it fixed right is sometimes better than doing it yourself. That’s like people knowing how to drive a standard, I’ve never had desire to learn because I don’t need to…Don’t worry about what people think.
What needs to make a comeback, a full sized stationwaggon with magic doorgate, fully fipable seats, and A FULL SIZED SPARE TIRE in the back of the bottom of he tunk. Id even be willing to sacrifice the hidden trunk seat facing backwards to put the spare in .
Brotha, you’re doing just fine. Nobody got hurt and the issue has been handled, end of story. People always gotta give there 2 cents even When it isn’t needed. Much love dude
BTW, more and more insurance companies are charging a flat tire as a CHARGEABLE accident. As much as you travel, a stand alone emergency highway problem company would be a good idea.
A man goes out and earns the money to pay other people to do the jobs for him. I wouldn't know how to change a tire either, that's why I pay AAA to come out and do it for me.
You have to ignore some of these super critical people. I always try to think before I speak (or type) but some people don't have a filter. You are a man that can handle what is necessary to handle.
omg! What's wrong with these commenters? Maybe they should all start their own Manly you tube channel. Jacob please continue to be yourself. Hugs from N.C.
Just because someone doesn’t know how to do something doesn’t make them less of a person. Just ignore those judgmental/ opinionated people and just keep being you!
If they had bothered to watch your videos they would know you have said multiple times you know nothing about cars. You did the right thing and got it fixed.
The one thing I noticed was that you didn't read the instructions on the can of fix a flat. I have used this stuff lots of times. The instructions say to shake well. It would have filled the tire, then you drive around to spread it around. I have driven on fix a flat for months. It works great as long as you shake it up first! That's it! I love your videos!
Don’t listen to other people. You do what you are more comfortable doing.
Having a professional work on your car, as opposed to doing things yourself, actually makes a ton of sense. Your car is crucial to your business, so having a professional do even what others deem as mundane assures that the car will work at optimum performance, and since most professionals guarantee their work, you are protected if mistakes are made.
I do it for the f u factor! If I fix it and it fails...f me! If a service person does it...F U and fix it right.
👏👏👏
Yet learning to do simple car maintenance yourself is easy and saves you a ton of cash
Jacob, you have done what the average person would have done in this particular situation. A donut will get you to the nearest location that can give you tire service. It's smaller to save size and weight. It's good enough to get you to town and get a real tire put on instead of the flat.
I hate that you let peoples negative comments bother you. You are awesome. Don't waste a second on negative people. Thanks for everything you do to entertain us.
There was alot of comments on that video
OMG they be Messy people hate picking at Carpetbagger!
So agree, screw anyone who critizes you Jacob!!
Getting a small compressor and a full size tire is a good idea.
Some people just want to criticize others about not doing things the way they would. You did everything you needed to do and the right way for you.
I'm appalled at the hick intelligence that came thru! You be you and forget the unintelligent assholes.
I agree
The donut IS a spare tire, just to get you to the tire shop. A lot of shops won't touch a tire that has fix a flat in it.

I completely agree

What's wrong with people being so hateful!
They want you change the tire ?
Ignore those idiots !
A man's got to know his limitations as Clint Eastwood said 😊 that's why AAA exists. In my younger days Change the tire... No longer
You handled the situation exactly the right way! Don't worry about all the idiots! You're awesome!!🎉
You have a gift Jacob. You are a really good content creator.

Baggerism of the day:

Jacob don't worry about what people are saying, you done the right thing by going to a Tired Shop, When it comes to Cameras I don't have a clue about them. Big hugs n love to you and Jenn
Absolutely ridiculous that this has to be brought up. Millions of men in the world that arent car savvy. What you did doesn't make you any less of a man. People are Absolutely ridiculous.
There was alot of comments on the other video, I don't think most of the people were mean just concerned
It’s ok Jacob! My dad could fix anything but he admittedly knew nothing about car. Cars never interested him
I’ve been working at Discount Tire for eight years and I don’t know what these people are saying about being able to patch your own tire. You can put a rope plug in it and hope it doesn’t leak but without a tire machine to get your tire off of the wheel there’s no way to patch a tire.
I think he’s interchanging plug and patch
Some people are good with machines. Some people are good at making videos that make people happy, like you and Jen. Some people think they are.
I feel you handled it reasonably. You got yourself to the nearest place to be repaired properly. A quick plug in a tire would have been as temporary as the donut. Good job.
This is why repair places exist, to assist us 'unmanly' types.
Hi there carpetbagger you know what enough with the ramblings what you did was the right thing it was a slow leak you brought it to the garage the professionally installed a patch plug which is the best because you are on the road and it's the safest because it's installed from the inside and I'd rather watch you do something more interesting then replying to people who probably wouldn't do it themselves keep up the good work it's Paul from Montreal I enjoy your show
By the way I'm a mechanic and I would have done the same as you I'd much prefer a plug patch than a plug
Agreed
I think you handled this situation perfectly. Not everyone is a car mechanic! Gees! Just be yourself and keep being you! 😊
On the camera situation. Whatever camera you purchase, make sure to purchase accident insurance.
Jacob, we love you just the way you are. The people that make the bad comments are the idiots not you!
The moral of the story is, no matter what you do some people wil find a problem.. some people are a trip 👍
Agreed. I'm glad he didn't have to drive so far. Personally I would have called my insurance
Read the comments section and you'll meet several people who carry plug kits.😊
I have a tire plug kit and small air compressor in all my vehicles. Easy to use and way better than being stranded somewhere
I think you did the right thing by letting the professionals patch the tire. There’s nothing wrong with it. Also, I love that your new car is named “Rosebud.” My husband and I say “Rosebud” every time we see a snow globe now since we’ve seen you do it so many times.
Me too 😂
I too am incredibly dumb about Cars and I am a card carrying AAA member as well and I do not hesitate to use them. I am good with computers and electronics but Cars are beyond me and I know it and I am happy to compensate someone else to help with those problems. I have also been criticized in very similar ways by others for that.
I’ve had AAA for 28 years. Just using it one time in a year pays for itself. I know 😂
Same here AAA has been a lifesaver
Don't pay any attention to those who criticize you! I received my monthly postcard from you today! I love Oscar! Also, cars can be tricky!
Yes! Agreed!!
A portable battery powered air compressor and jump box would be a good investment
I will also say that my very “manly” husband has borrowed my little yellow portable handheld air pump several times for his work truck 😂😂
I know nothing about cars myself. Ignore the negativety. This is why i have a mechanic i trust and i can be rest assured my car will be safe.
Being able to work on cars has nothing to do with manliness. Taking care of your loved ones is...be safe ❤
A portable air pump would be a great idea and an Emergency roadside kit might be helpful.
Jacob, you are amazing! You fill a lot of peoples lives with joy. Let those trolls be miserable, and you keep being you!
When you have to buy tires, have the best one of your old tires become your spare and get rid of the donut.
And you can charge your cell phone if necessary. I bought my daughter one for Christmas. She said it’s the best present ever!
Isn’t there a way to have the cameras repaired?! And Jacob, you’re the man !!
surely you could learn the basics of changing a tire. the donut is just temporary to get you to a tire dealer to fix the flat..that was an option.
Just be you man. We love you for that.
You were on the road, and fortunately you found a place that could repair it. It’s a brand new car, with brand new tires. Good for you!
I know NOTHING about cameras Jacob....but have a great day. Personally, I love you just the way you are ❤✌️🙂
It’s so easy for people to get on the internet and spew hate. How miserable their lives must be. Ignore those idiots and keep being positive ❤️
You are NOT an idiot Jacob! Just be u!
😂😂😂😅
You took the lazy way out. If you didn’t want to work then call roadside assistance
I've always taken my car to the tire shop so they can patch the flat. Fight me chat.
I used rechargable air compressor off amazon I keep in truck very small and works very well
Buy you a air pump at your local Walmart they plug in your cigarette lighter
Brotha, you’re doing just fine. Nobody got hurt and the issue has been handled, end of story. People always gotta give there 2 cents even When it isn’t needed. Much love dude
BTW, more and more insurance companies are charging a flat tire as a CHARGEABLE accident. As much as you travel, a stand alone emergency highway problem company would be a good idea.
Wow they're really trying to nickel and dime people.
A man goes out and earns the money to pay other people to do the jobs for him. I wouldn't know how to change a tire either, that's why I pay AAA to come out and do it for me.
😊yes, agree
Jacob, consider a Google Pixel 7 or 8 Pro for recording video. Pixels have fantastic cameras and incredible low light recording.
I would handle to situation the same way. I am not mechanicly inclined. I would be nervous if I have car issues on the road.
You 're fine! You have skills in other areas Jacob. 😊
Exactly , I totally agree.
What you keep calling a donut is a temporary spare no new vehicle except trucks do not have a normal spare because of weight.
