Still have the Gear S3 Frontier since 2016 but decided to give the 46mm version a whirl. Charged it to 100%, set it up, and less than 10 hours later I'm sitting at 86%. I do not believe this watch, like the Gear S3 Frontier, will last a 1/4 of what Samsung claims. I've noticed that after setting it up Samsung really pushes for the sleep mode. I believe if that was on I'd be sitting at a higher battery percentage. Going to give it a few more days before sending it back or keep it. Great review and TY for pointing out how the inside gets scratched if you swap out bands alot.
Thank you! I agree, the Samsung claim of 4 to 7 days battery life is really based on having a super boring grayscaled watch face which is kind of misleading.
Got the same 46mm version, only just found out about the watch only mode (thanks to this vid). But personally I get a solid 3 to 4 days of battery and haven't had any hr or steps tracking inconsistencies or problems at all whether I'm out on a run or just sitting around. hey buddy great job. just a note about the fit/finish feel of the loose/flexible side buttons; they aint loose. they are in fact fixed and resting on floating a rocking base which permits the tabs to take stress and avoid being stressed, or pressed inadvertently by a jacket cuff, or a dress shirt button over stressing a static/zero flex button, or repeated aggressive pressings etc. its a high end build quality factor that the sung folks thought of to avoid issues that competitors have seen. been through 2 prior apple watches and the galaxy is a tank in comparison. both pros and cons but this thing is in a different league. txs pal good clip
Well done commentary. There are numerous reviews on this watch circulating the web and I find yours as one of the better ones. Nice job. You covered everything I was wanting to know. I love Santa Clause!
Thank you! Good question. I don't think there is an AOD option for any of the 'low power" modes. AOD is typically a big battery drain already so having it on would probably be counter to saving battery.

It's tough to say if Samsung is going to allow Google Play Music to be integrated into the watch. They may currently have a deal with Spotify OR GPM doesn't have a lot of interest in creating a companion app. I use GPM so I would like to see this happen myself.
Spotify let's you have about 3 different devices to play music offline but you can only stream off 1 at a time.. Google play let's you stream off 10 different devices
I bought one and returned it for two reasons. The first was the fit and finish of the buttons. The reviewer is right, they are responsive, but they could have been a built more rugged. They wobbled worse than a 10 dollar Kmart watch. The second was the fact that the stair counter / altimeter and step counter were horrible at tracking elevation and steps respectively. I wanted a round smart watch to use because I’ve been tired of using my Apple Watch, but this one...even tho it looks great, just faltered a bit too much. Disconnected a few times. The software is just a tad buggy.
Excellent response! I returned the 46mm because I ultimately didn't like the buttons too. Also, it started to feel a bit bulky on my wrist. I went ahead and picked up the 42mm and it feels a little more polished. The buttons still have some wobble but not as bad as the 46mm. I'm going to test this one out for a few days and report back.
Alex ramos I was using it with an iPhone 8 Plus. It’s a handsome timepiece for sure. I know it was going to be a non-optimal experience with a non-Android phone. I just used it for notifications really. I barely reply to messages on my Apple Watch. I wish it did have message replying though. I mean, Pebble had that functionality on iPhone with voice texting and it was stellar. I don’t understand why the Sammy watches don’t have that on iPhone.
I have a Gear S3 Frontier and a 42mm rose gold Galaxy watch. I love them both. If you have a Gear S3, upgrading to the Galaxy watch is not really necessary in terms of the features. I wanted the Galaxy watch for the smaller size and the great-looking gold color, which looks great on men and women in my opinion. My phone pairs automatically with whichever watch is powered on. I get about the same 2 day battery life with either watch.
@@TechJungle The 42mm Galaxy watch has a smaller battery than the Gear S3, but may be more efficient. So I think I could get 2 days use with either watch, but I recharge ar least one watch while I'm sleeping, so have not really tested that. It of course depends on how the watch is used. @@robertnoblitt518 I picked up the 42mm and so far I like it a lot more than the 46mm. Just seems to fit on the wrist just right. The battery is ok, I've haven't stress tested it yet, but I think it'll last about 1.5 days with normal use and 2 days if I'm playing it safe.

I too have the galaxy watch. 42mm. Battery is horrible. I'm lucky if it lasts 12 hours and that's running bare minimum. Check the threads. . . this is a well known issue with Samsung and TMobile is extending their return window for people who have lost confidence and not convinced that an update will fix the issue.

To be honest, both watches are great. It's be hard to choose a winner as the Apple Watch has a lot of support from 3rd party developers and a sharper display. The Galaxy Watch has a better watch like design and that rotating bezel. I'd say the Apple Watch is better at tracking fitness and the Galaxy Watch is better a looking like a real watch.
Hi mate. Check out ringke.com they sell some nice bezels for this watch. I scored a stainless steel one recently and its good quality. Will solve the scratches for you.
Thanks for the feedback. I thought I rambled a bit too. The size of the watch is good IMO. I need to use a little while longer to see if I'm going to keep it. Are you picking up a Galaxy Watch?
I haven't tested the Tic Watch Pro, but it looks promising. It's less expensive than the Galaxy Watch, has a higher screen resolution, and could be getting the new Wear OS update. The Galaxy Watch is more durable and has better software at the moment. Tough call i would say.
I don’t own any Samsung watch but I will one day :) I’m curious about the speed push button release on the bracelet. Do you know if only Samsung bands use that or other brand of bands use that on the galaxy watch serie including the S serie ?
Good question. I think the quick release mechanism is used in other watch bands. Especially the metal bands. I'd check out Amazon for watch bands with a quick release pin.
I have the Ticwatch Pro thinking to change to galaxy watch but 1. bixby is worse than google assistant ??? 2. can you start to send a whatsapp message from contacts like wear os??? 3. tizen seems to be smoother but you can use wear os more efficient. because of the google assisntant??? 4. when you use often whatsapp you have to get the wear os is it right? more changes to answer and begin a conversation
@luke0770 When someone sends a WhatsApp message it'll appear on the watch (if phone is locked), you can tap the watch to view and also reply from that (there is an app call whats history on the galaxy store that apparently works really well but that is a paid for app)
My primary phone at the moment is IOS. I've been on the hunt for something like this. Was supposed to get thr frontier but I heard it doesn't sync well with iOS. Does this mean that this one doesn't work with iOS also?
I've seen the reviews for the Galaxy Watch app in iOS and it looks to have gotten better over the past year. I would check the reviews and see if you feel comfortable pairing up the two.
Tech Jungle thank you for replying!! I appreciate it. I will definitely see what I can find. I’ve been searching but I haven’t been able to find one yet 🤦🏻♀️ lol but I’ll just keep trying
I think there really isn't a major spec bump to make an S3 owner switch, unless they want a smaller option. I personally like the 42mm now that I've had a chance to use one. I just need to test the battery out as that seems to be big complaint.
Great video, real advantage is bigger battery and much better processor. I actually was skeptical about the battery life as advertised but I'm actually getting 2 full days on it in one charge. I had the frontier and battery life was horrible. Could barely get 12 hours on a single charge 😑. Anyway great video.
I have had at least 9 different smart watches, both Tizen and Android starting with the Moto 360, LG, Hauwei, Michael Kors, Asus, and the short lived ZTE, two different LTE watches and now on to the 3rd model of Samsung Gear watches with the Galaxy Watch. NONE of the watches have done EVERYTHING I wanted, all of them have been impressive for what you could do with something on your wrist. I find it trying when reviewers slam a device for not having a feature they would like, build your own! But you knew, (or should have known) any limitations before buying it. Review what it does, not what it doesn't, that's just a cheap shot. I'll never own a Porsche until it comes with an onboard coffee brewer!
I think the “don’ts” should be considered “wants” rather than disses towards a product. I still think it’s a great watch. Thanks for the honest feedback!!
How is the vibration strength compared to the apple watch? I used to have the gear sport and found the vibration was way to weak compared to apple watch.
The Apple Watch is still superior when comparing vibration feedback. The "Taptic Engine" really makes it a better overall experience. I will say the speaker quality on the Galaxy Watch is really good!
16:30 I enlarged my screen and CANNOT see the pixels - maybe you can notice them more in person? It looks so realistic that I want to get this but can anyone else comment on how 'real' the watch faces look in person? Everything I've seen so far looks amazing
I think you might want to take a look at one in person. Best Buy has them on display in most stores. The display is pretty good, but not as sharp as the current Samsung flagship phones out. I want a PPI over 400 on the watch display before I'm 💯 satisfied.
So I had a galaxy gear s2 classic. The bezel insert literally fell out after hot weather and melted glue visible. 8 months old and they won't replace something similar to a large decorative washer. Totally disgusted by warranty , repair team and customer services
@@calebbonsall-pearson3218 I'm sorry 'Bro but are you really that thick to think that a companies failure to respect warrant on one product doesn't give an indication of how they will support news and future products. It was 8 months old and within warranty period.
That's odd. Have you made sure your software is up to date? If you have and it still doesn't fully charge, then I would exchange it or call Samsung support.
Tech Jungle i figured it out. I had the charger plugged into the usb port on my keyboard which i guess wasnt powerful enough to charge it. I switched to an actual electric outlet and it charges fine now
@@TechJungle i'm not sure if you are answering my question. I know there is a slide feature to answer calls. I want to know if I can answer or reject an incomng call by using my voice by saying "answer" or "reject".
@@Cali4nium yeah, I don't think you can answer the call directly from your watch. Maybe in the LTE version you can? I heard battery life is terrible though when it's constantly searching for a signal.
As it currently stands, the Gear S3 is around $50-$100 cheaper than the Galaxy Watch. If we're comparing spec s, then they're very similar. The big upgrades are battery life and better waterproofing. IMO, it's an incremental update.
I don't have a Note 9 currently. The Note 8 has been performing well enough to keep me from upgrading. However, since I would like to review one on this channel, I may find a way to get my hands on one.
I bought the Galaxy watch 42mm. I have had it maybe 2 weeks. I personally like the watch. But after the 2weeks. With no wifi on, no music download,I can only get one day of battery life. What a waste of money.
There might be something not right with your watch if you only get one day usage out of it unless you have always screen on, on. I get easily two days out of my watch. I love it. I have many smart watches but they are all lying dormant ever since I strapped on the Gear S3 Frontier.
Top review bud. I am a watch collector, and this was a great transition into smart watches for me. Check out ringke.com they do some nice after market bezels for this watch. Think you might dig it.
I know, I’ll look back and realize that was probably not a good choice! Oh well, just got to adjust make each video better than the last. Thanks for the feedback!
@@drmedborn you may be right. I'll have to test the LTE version at some point. The 2 days I mention has to also do with the fact that I'm using it a lot more than usual so I can test out new watch faces and explore the OS. It may differ once I stop playing with the watch every 5 minutes 🤞
I went ahead and picked up the Black 42mm version yesterday and I have to agree! The watch feels more polished at this size. Now the battery life.... We'll need to test that out 😉
Samsung should stop making the straps of these watches to be slant, they should be made straight or better still make them in both styles which is straight and slant and people can have an option of a choice. Personally I don't like to wear a watch with a slant strap,I like them to be straight.
I love all my Samsung Galaxy products and will probably never own another Apple product again. Apple is just greedy. They charge their buyers astronomical sums of money for their products(with very little improvement with each consecutive model) and also repairs. That being said, the quality of Bixby its total shit. Other then that, IMO Samsung is much better than Apple. Does anyone know why Samsung hasn't radically improved Bixby? I literally asked it five simple questions in a row to test it out and failed each time. Come on Samsung, you guys are better then this! For now I guess I'm sticking with asking questions through Google on my phone. Also, why can't they figure out a way to put the Play Store on their watches and just list applicable apps.
Do you own the 42mm or 46mm? If 42mm how long does it last for a full charge? I heard it lasts just for a day at most! Would be helpful if you could let me know
I am writing this everywhere, this watch can not measure VO2 max and free training , basic bands such as Mi band 4 and Honor band 4 can measure free training. Maybe a good looking watch but certainly not worth the money, if you want a stainless steel watch go for the Honor Magic watch with VO2 max and free training tracking capability.
Please get some help on your spoken English. To keep saying “You know” is distracting. When you cite items such as battery life it seems that you didn’t really test it.
The Galaxy Watch has been impressive throughout my first week with it. Let me know what you think about this watch and if you're thinking about picking one up!

100% yes
thanks!
Anyone know if Samsung pay is going to work with more UK banks?
when setting the galaxy watch to flight mode does it automatically set the note 8 to flight mode?
Nope, it only turns off the connection on the watch. The phone is not effected.
Tech Jungle maybe bixby can handle this from the watch? as a command?
@@gilbertgk yup..very very easy😉
So it only hold for max 3 days? What a shame they claimed up to 7 days though
That's if you're on power saving mode only.
@@TechJungle i see.. what does the power saving mode do btw?
@@stefanussaputra1887 it greys the screen and limits the watches functionality.
Love my Gear S3 frontier but Galaxy watch more The same 👍
I have had at least 9 different smart watches, both Tizen and Android starting with the Moto 360, LG, Hauwei, Michael Kors, Asus, and the short lived ZTE, two different LTE watches and now on to the 3rd model of Samsung Gear watches with the Galaxy Watch.
If you want to use Bixby do you need a phone that has bixby aswell
Nope. You only need a Wi-Fi or mobile connection (LTE version) to the watch.
Tech Jungle alright, Thanks keep up the Work man. I subbed to you
Thank you!
Do you still own your Apple Watch ? If so, can you do a compare video ?
Unfortunately I sold it when I sold my iPhone 7. I'd like to get the newest Apple Watch coming out this month so stay tuned!
Tech Jungle thanks! Will go check one out
How do you get that Swiss watch face please?
It's called Viktor Swiss Army in the Galaxy App Store. Around $2 I believe
Cheers buddy. Im on an iPhone and the search on the Galaxy Watch App is rubbish, I can't seem to find it!
Anthony Dry I think only the free watch faces are available for iOS on the Galaxy app for some reason.
Is je possible to pair an external heart rate sensor?
I think you can but you'll need to pick up a 3rd party so from the app store. Also read it's a battery drain.
So I had a galaxy gear s2 classic. The bezel insert literally fell out after hot weather and melted glue visible. 8 months old and they won't replace something similar to a large decorative washer. Totally disgusted by warranty , repair team and customer services
Wow! Sorry to hear that. Sounds like Samsung needs to improve it's customer service. Nothing beats Apple's customer service imo.
Bro that was a s2, ages ago. Cant really compare
@@calebbonsall-pearson3218 I'm sorry 'Bro but are you really that thick to think that a companies failure to respect warrant on one product doesn't give an indication of how they will support news and future products. It was 8 months old and within warranty period.
my watch wont charge to 100% unless i power it off. Have you had this issue?
That's odd. Have you made sure your software is up to date? If you have and it still doesn't fully charge, then I would exchange it or call Samsung support.
Tech Jungle i figured it out. I had the charger plugged into the usb port on my keyboard which i guess wasnt powerful enough to charge it. I switched to an actual electric outlet and it charges fine now
how do you set voice answer for incoming calls?
The call feature will automatically launch on the watch as soon as you you get an incoming call. There's a slide to answer feature on the watch face.
@@TechJungle i'm not sure if you are answering my question. I know there is a slide feature to answer calls. I want to know if I can answer or reject an incomng call by using my voice by saying "answer" or "reject".
I think you might have to enable it in the permissions settings.
@@SilverArrow-p9g nope. not there.
@@Cali4nium yeah, I don't think you can answer the call directly from your watch. Maybe in the LTE version you can? I heard battery life is terrible though when it's constantly searching for a signal.
Do you recommend the gear s3 or the galaxy watch better?
As it currently stands, the Gear S3 is around $50-$100 cheaper than the Galaxy Watch. If we're comparing spec s, then they're very similar. The big upgrades are battery life and better waterproofing. IMO, it's an incremental update.
@@TechJungle so you personally think the galaxy watch is better at this moment? Exept the price then
@@jaspermampaey3444 it is better, except the price.
@@bartbergman4812 thank you!
@@jaspermampaey3444 I think it's a decent upgrade. You'll see benefits in the battery and waterproofing.
Oh yeah, but lose that background music. Distracting. I thought my hard drive was acting up. :-)
haha, you got it Teddy Vee! :)
Lol
How does it pair with an iPhone?
You'll need to download the Galaxy Wear app from the App Store. I heard it's gotten better since the S3.
Thanks
Do you also have a Note 9?
I don't have a Note 9 currently. The Note 8 has been performing well enough to keep me from upgrading. However, since I would like to review one on this channel, I may find a way to get my hands on one.
Okay. What about your Apple Watch? do you still use it w an iphone too?
Thanks!
Why no blood pressure reading?
Blood pressure reading? Is there a watch that can track that? I'm interested.
Impossible
Great video, just need to work on the background music
Appreciate it. I'll make sure the music isn't so annoying in the future 😎
This is LTE version?
No this is the standard version
I love my lte version
Oh great review BTW
Thank you! I'll have a more polished review coming soon.
16:26 - Your watch face has Victorinox spelt wrong! Haha
Dude! I want my money back 😂😂😂
Spelt wrong as I suspect copyright inftingement if spelt right. Very superficial review imho.
I bought the Galaxy watch 42mm. I have had it maybe 2 weeks. I personally like the watch. But after the 2weeks. With no wifi on, no music download,I can only get one day of battery life. What a waste of money.
The battery on the 46mm is pretty good. I was thinking about getting the all black 42mm. You think it's not worth picking up?
I have a 42mm rose gold Galaxy Watch and get about 2 days use. I love it.
There might be something not right with your watch if you only get one day usage out of it unless you have always screen on, on. I get easily two days out of my watch. I love it. I have many smart watches but they are all lying dormant ever since I strapped on the Gear S3 Frontier.
@@biancamariacornick6080 I don't have to worry about it anymore. I sold it. Someone elses problem now
Lewisville tx!? If so you live in my area!

Can it count body fat?
Nope, is there a smartwatch out there that can do that?

Top review bud. I am a watch collector, and this was a great transition into smart watches for me. Check out ringke.com they do some nice after market bezels for this watch. Think you might dig it.
Thanks! I’ll definitely check them out!
I don't know what you were going for with the background noise but it's simply annoying and distracting!
I know, I’ll look back and realize that was probably not a good choice! Oh well, just got to adjust make each video better than the last. Thanks for the feedback!
Casovnik koj gi poseduva site potrebni performansi za eden covek stomue potrebno!!!😉😉😉
Is that bluetooth or LTE
This version is the Bluetooth only watch.
@@TechJungle then 2 days is pretty terrible
@@drmedborn you may be right. I'll have to test the LTE version at some point. The 2 days I mention has to also do with the fact that I'm using it a lot more than usual so I can test out new watch faces and explore the OS. It may differ once I stop playing with the watch every 5 minutes 🤞
Nice follow up.
Thanks!
Buttons are perfect on my 42mm
I went ahead and picked up the Black 42mm version yesterday and I have to agree! The watch feels more polished at this size. Now the battery life.... We'll need to test that out 😉
Did you just compared this to Rolex!!!!! Are you sure that you are Ok mate?
I guess I'm not OK if I made that comparison 😂
Good answer.😀
WTF- is Viktorknox???
Haha. I guess it's a "knock off" of Victorinox?
Samsung should stop making the straps of these watches to be slant, they should be made straight or better still make them in both styles which is straight and slant and people can have an option of a choice. Personally I don't like to wear a watch with a slant strap,I like them to be straight.
And still no other smart watch compares to this.
Viktorknox ? Really ?
Yeah, it's kinda close 😂
Thumb down for the background noise 👎
I'm sure I've had a few thumbs down because of the music. Lesson learned!
@@TechJungle and now you get an thumb up :-)
😂😂😂 thanks!
Some feedback. You repeat yourself a bit. Maybe write it down and then speak to it.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it the constructive criticism. I aim to get better each video.
Too much waffling with background music
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try a little less waffling next time!
Would be helpful if you could let me know
The buttons are fine, smh!
Yes, they're fine. Just a little loose.

There's nothing wrong with music
Music is distracting.
After re-watching the video a few times, yeah I feel the same way.
If you can't review a watch and just say uhm and yeah all the time - And give inaccurate infos, then just DON'T
Say timepiece again
Reminds me of Pinky in Next Friday 😂
“Say it again!”
GEK POT
I am writing this everywhere, this watch can not measure VO2 max and free training , basic bands such as Mi band 4 and Honor band 4 can measure free training. Maybe a good looking watch but certainly not worth the money, if you want a stainless steel watch go for the Honor Magic watch with VO2 max and free training tracking capability.
LOL "classic timepiece" It's not a timepiece it's a friggin computer chip.
I hear ya. I think Samsung is trying to simulate a classic watch, especially with it's rounded design. It's not quite there yet.
If you bother on editing your videos this could be a 8 to 7 minutes video. I almost fell asleep.
I'll get the scissors out next time and get to trimming. Thanks for the input.
music is disgusting
Disgusting like in a good way? 😂😂😂
Turn that stupid music off.
😂😂😂
Please get some help on your spoken English. To keep saying “You know” is distracting. When you cite items such as battery life it seems that you didn’t really test it.
Appreciate the feedback. After replaying this video a few times I can see areas of improvement. Thanks!
