Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 14
Episode - 03
Filmed on Location at - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Born in Mildura, Craig Penny has shown an interest in art and drawing from a very young age and has created a successful career as a professional artist.
In 1970, the family moved to the Western District of Victoria and Craig's love of art and artistic interests extended into ceramics and sculpture. Craig Penny has constructed several wood fired kilns for this purpose. You could say "it fired his imagination".
Studying art at Ballarat University, painting and graphic design claimed most of his attention allowing him to pursued a successful career in illustrator as a member of the Illustrators Association of Australia for many years. Craig has skills in a range of mediums including computer graphics. He taught both traditional drawing, illustration and digital drawing at both Victoria University and Swinburne University.
Craig Penny never lost his love of using traditional methods and now specializes in watercolour, acrylic painting and illustration.
In 2001, Craig had his first major solo exhibition in Mt Eliza, Victoria. There have been many exhibitions and awards since. Craig's work has been accepted by Galleries around Australia, Singapore, SE Asia and California USA as well a many private collections and remains
in strong demand today.
"I like to think that to paint a successful painting is not so much to have tamed the beast, rather to have been taken along for the ride and still be there at the end of the experience.
For me painting is like life … giving yourself enough skill, knowledge and integrity and then letting yourself free to take what is thrown
your way. You don't need to tame and control it for magic to happen..
you just need to be there at the end."
Craig Penny

Rest in peace, Graeme. You and your enthusiasm for art are missed. Fan from the US.
What a treat! Thank you so much from Ireland.
Brilliantly talented
So impressed with the confidence of his style and brush strokes. I love his color choices. Just beautiful work.
Thank you Peggy for your generous words :)
I love it how Craig makes the sound effects when he paints (De-de-de-de-de). I get that - I do that sometimes - it's when you know you are connected to what you are doing on an emotional level. Cool. Loved watching this.
His style and brush strokes is everything
Wow love the colours ,
Thanks so much. Love your loose brushes, drips and total confidence! Awesome!
Thank you from Ontario, Canada.Fantastic !

Gidday Graeme just got watch Craig Penny doing his thing on your show and was blown away with the program which is such a credit to to you and your team. Craig has been a great bloke to do Painting Holidays with and I personally have joined his workshop group in Melbourne to paint with him and enjoy the whole experience of watching a true artist do his thing. You probably see it all the time in what you do - lucky bugger. I never get sick of watching such talent. It is inspiring for people genuinely interested in art and painting I think - keep up your good work Graeme.
You're exactly right, it has been an amazing journey and watching a man like Craig do what he does always blows me away. I want the world to see all of these people and experience their talent and passion thanks for your comments, always greatly appreciated

Hi Graeme
Thank you for the information, the Hydrocryl paint seem to be an interesting looking product. I've really don't use acrylic paint that often. I work in glass myself as a lamp worker. I will say that I enjoy watching all the fabulous artist you fetcher on your show, looking forward too the new season.

Wonderful color!
I really enjoyed this, awesome demo
Thank you Donna, they are manufactured in Australia I looked them up.
Checked my emails this morning to see if I had won the Lottery......I hadn't....🙁 But, I did have a link to this amazing video, which was almost as good! Pure magic to watch you at work, Craig, especially as you are at the other side of the world......I may just have to emigrate! To Ernest Venn who is hard of hearing and couldn't catch all that was said, there are closed captions, but they need a bit of interpretation too.....but some of it is quite funny!
Hi Barbara, those are the RUclips automatic attempt at converting to Closed captions and they don't quite get the Australian accent, however we are currently creating the closed caption files and usually have them up a few weeks after the video goes live.
Hi Barbara, many thanks for your kind words...:) sorry about the aussie accent:) hope you you are well.
Fabulous!
wow! just discovered this episode and really like your style

Hi Craig Just love the visual art you are creating, I remember you from Vic Uni I was also teaching in the Design course and I am freelancing now and have noticed you are teaching some classes at MC2 where I am sharing the art studio! enjoying the show.
Magnific!
interesting to watch some of your processes and applications, even for a non-artist like myself..well done, Mr Penny
Many thanks Mr Delia, hope this finds you well.
powerful and inspirational paintings!
love his style!
Very kind words Shedz, thank you so much :)
Kind words but true! Fine Art can often be too controlled and precise, all in the intellect, that it kills the fun and freedom of expression - coming from the heart which is intuition tapped from a Spiritual Source. I love your spontaneity and yet still controlled by a thoughtful process. I love your work - looking at it makes me feel good!
many thanks wolf...bloody nice thing to say mate, Cheers :)
very very very beautiful work ! I am now following you on FB , thanks for the inspiration!
many thanks for your kind words Tala :)
Thank you for sharing your skills. I try to take away at least one thing from a demo... Today it was, "Imbrace your values!" I paint bold, but I don't think I embrace values as well as I should. Thank you again.
He actually said embrace failure. (It's the accent), but embrace your values sounds like a good plan too :-)
Embrace failure is excellent advise. I always say that to everyone. Out of not listening carefully, comes more great advise! Thanks Donna
Thanks Karen, hope your painting is going well, cheers Craig
Lovely painting Craig
Thank you Carol :)
what is the brush used in the painting which he says is not a bristle brush.
that is wicked
Love this painting. Did you say that you put varnish on canvas before painting or did I misunderstand you?
i always wait new show episode.
Awesome 👍👍👍😃😃😃🌺
Many thanks Jenny :)
Oh boy Craig , you are one very good artist, even without the boats, it's a lovely painting!! Great tip about the water bottle!! , never knew that, thank you & to Graeme Mairead in Ireland PS I don't think we can get those paints here!!
Many thanks Mairead for your kind words :)
Hi Mairead you can order the paints from hydrocryl.com.au they do ship internationally.
.... wow
your work reminds me of Quiang Chang's work
exelent
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Enjoy your programs here in Canada. Did Craig say he used a varnish over his drawings and then continued to use acrylic over that or am I mistaken. Ive always hesitated to paint over a varnish. thanks
I think it is just a fixative spray
Thank you. That makes sense now
Beautiful!
Kim Kimmel
What type of paint brand was he using? I misted it I'm a little hard of hearing, I did love watching him paint.
It was called Hydrocryl. I think it's Australian.
Hi Ernest yes they are Hydrocryl and they are in Australia, check out hydrocryl.com.au
We are currently creating the closed caption files and usually have them up a few weeks after the video goes live.
choo shooo chuu chuu!!!
This guy is GREAT. Love your work Craig!
Beautiful! What word are you saying that sounds like bar-oil? It's something he talks about at the beginning that he says will show through when the painting is varnished. Sorry, I'm Canadian and I think it's the accent, or maybe just a term we don't use ??
I'm wondering that too...
:) Hi Donna...Biro ...a ball point pen, strong aussie accent. Many thanks for your kind words, hope you are well :)
Hi Julie, it was a black "Biro", a ball pint pen, many thanks, cheers Craig
Craig Penny Thanks!

Love these paintings though the interviewer distracts, is terse and has the cadence of a investigator questioning a suspect. Strange
