I really this you design but the sliding stop needs a little change to by putting a piece of wood glued on the back of the sliding stop to keep it square and not getting bumped at a angles as to place a piece to be cut.

I will make a new one as you say and add a ruler and track for better sliding. when you use this, do you have issue with small pieces? do you have tear out and other issues due to no "zero clearance"? I like this idea but I feel like there might be some down sides...
