Recife is called "Brazilian Venice" because it was built over rivers and swamps. Back when it was still growing, people had to take many boats to walk around, since it always flooded. The two main rivers, Capibaribe and Beberibe, also would flood and engulf everything around. Nowadays the city also floods but not as before. If you are unlucky, you will get heavy rain and flooded streets.

Luiz Gonzaga was (still is, even after death) one of the most important singers in Brasil. His father, Januário, was a singer and composer too,, the only diference between him and the son is That Luiz Gonzaga took over the whole country (Brasil wild famous) while Januário, though really good musician, had a more localized fame... ALSO, Luiz Gonzaga had a son, Gonzaguinha, who parked near Rio de Janeiro and composed lots of awesome musics, including several against the military goverment at the time... and several beautifull songs he made (most Samba, some Forró and... well, he was amazing). Saddly he died too young, and left us all in the middle of 80s, I believe. ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS brazilian songs, sang everywhere there is a brazilian present, is written by Gonzaguinha "O que é, o que é"... And I love "Espere por mim morena", 'É", "Lindo lago do amor", "Explode coração" and several others of him too, You can find all those on youtube to listen on his channel.

When you go to Olinda you have to get the Coalho cheese tapioca (or other fillings too) from the food stalls in the main square. To me this is the best tapioca in Brazil!!
Recife/Olinda has the best carnival for the seasoned "carnival-person". For the first carnival, I don't know if I would recommend it, because it is WILD and very unique, different from other regions. Nevertheless, I envy you! Be prepared for the party, and be prepared to leave the party when you got too tired (it may need planning to get out and rest!). And don't miss Olinda street carnival. Before the carnival, go one night to "Vassourinhas" carnival club, I cannot stress more how this experience is special. It is a club founded in 1889 to promote carnival parties. It was closed for some time, so you will have to check if it reopened or where they are playing. Another unmissable show is anything where Alceu Valença is singing, he is one of the oldest and greatest musicians in Brazil, besides being a relatively accessible person, you may actually bump with him in the streets of Olinda.
The statues that you mention in the end of the video are some local terror characters that we have here in Recife. There are some thematic tours that tell their stories, you can check it out at that restaurant

Sorry but this is not true. He explained correctly. New Amsterdam already existed. They fled to a place already created by the Netherlands

New Amsterdam was founded in 1625. Recife was reconquered in 1652-1654. There's a 25+ year difference

You guys are so nice ! I love to watch the videos, Ivana is always so happy, Steve is so funny - you guys are perfect together ❤️
Awesome vid as always, amigos! Next video, Steve has to show his Frevo skills!
Have a great Carnaval
Interesting History, great museums tour and epic drone footage. Amazing joining you both for the exploration thru' your channel. Good day and happy blessed weekend, Steve lvana.
vocês são fofos hahaha
If going to stay longer go to Jericoacoara at Ceara state or Fernando de Noronha island at Pernambuco state, is about one hour by flight from Recife, nice trip guys!
You guys need to have the Carnival in Olinda. It's the most tradicional in the Recife region.
When you go to Olinda you have to get the Coalho cheese tapioca (or other fillings too) from the food stalls in the main square. To me this is the best tapioca in Brazil!!
Lugares lindos e especiais... super indico!
Linda demais. A capital do nordeste.
welcome to the land of frevo and Maracatu.
don't miss going to OLINDA.
have lots of fun... 🎉🎷🍻🤸😀
Pernambuco 😍😍😍
Recife ❤️
On Boa Viagem beach there is the Parraxa restaurant that serves typical food!E Muito Bom!
Recife have a best carnaval in Brasil, and have a famous galo da madrugada ( rooster of dawn)
Sejam bem vindo ao meu país, capital do Nordeste. 😍💗💕💓💖
I miss Recife, this beautiful City❤️
Assim que puderem venham para o Brasil
The statues that you mention in the end of the video are some local terror characters that we have here in Recife. There are some thematic tours that tell their stories, you can check it out at that restaurant
Que cidade maravilhosa minha Recife
You guys should split Carnaval between Recife, Olinda and Salvador...
I'm not really a Carnival person, but, yeah, I guess you made the right decision to stay in Recife for the Carnival. Muito bom!
My city, My place, My history ❤️
I’m so sad you didn’t make it! The best carnival ever is in Olinda! I hope you’ll be back someday
Da Próxima vez que vierem a Recife recomendo 3 lugares;
Oficina Brennand,
