I worked in a nursing home before & those types of precautions happen all the time. It's generally a precaution sign for the staff who do hands on care. If your father shares a bathroom with that person - sometimes rooms have adjoining restrooms- that would be a concern for your dad. If he has private bathroom he shouldn't worry. I wouldn't worry about the kids being there - as long as it's not your dads roommate or Something. But it's very common to see those precaution signs

And people with precautions are not out of there rooms depending on what it is without a mask or never at all. You and your sweet dad have the right to ask any provider or visitor to please wash there hands before providing care. Hand washing is the biggest way to prevent the spread of other illnesses. From someone who worked at nursing homes, hospice, and hospitals any time someone has a respiratory cold or illness the precaution signs and gowns masks and gloves come out. Also hand sanitizer when entering and leaving are always good to do. You have valid questions, and the nurses will do there best to explain or alleviate any fears without breaking Patient confidentiality. Just some advice because I work in a nursing facility....as we approach flu season just have the kids and yourself wear a face mask, so you do not get sick. Hand sanitizer as soon as you leave. You would also be protecting your dad from catching a virus from any of you as well. If the kids will tolerate that of course. They have face masks available there, I’m sure. Also, the resident in the room next to your dad must have an isolation, typically it would be bacteria in urine/stool (sorry if that’s gross) so that bin is set up to protect nursing/CNA’s. If it were an airborne isolation, such as the flu, they would keep the door closed & the resident would remain in their room. Hope this helps !

My son is 2.5yr and he is in speech therapy and at times I feel like a failure. Thank you for this video and letting me see it is more common than I thought and it doesn’t make me a bad mama. I'm an RN and it sounds like your dad's neighbor is on contact precautions which usually means your kids should be fine as long as they dont go in that room. See what you can find out from the nurses. ... if it was something spreadable through the air that person should be in a negative pressure room. It could be anything. That patient could have cancer and need precautions bc he has a very low white blood cell count. Wish I could tell you more but if I were you I would call and ask if your kids should be ok to come in. And omg I love the crock pot elf on the shelf idea! How cute!!
For the kids they make the at home ball pits, kiddie trampolines for indoor use, even throw colored paper on the floor and have them hop from color to color like the lava game for the exersize.

I’m not sure if anyone has said but with all the warnings/protective stuff on your dad’s neighbor’s door, it is most likely that that person has some sort of infection that can be spread either by contact, droplet or airborne. I work in a hospital so I’ve dealt with those types of precautions a lot. You should be fine with bringing the kiddos since you’re not going in that room. The protective equipment(gloves, gowns, masks) are for those that will work with that person such as nurses that have to go in that room

Hello. I just want to let you know how much I love your videos.You are such an inspiration and an awesome mom. You were talking about your concern about your dad‘s neighbor at hospice. My dad was in the hospital and was in quarantine because of MERSA. That could be what he has. When I would visit my dad, I would just have to gown up and wear the gloves. If that is what he has,You and your children are completely safe because you are not going into the patient’s room. Your dad is in my family’s prayers. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!

Been thinking about you a lot lately. I’ve just put my Dad in hospice care at his home. My Dad has Parkinson’s and many other midi-gating issues. It’s been a highly emotional journey as I am the only child of my Dads (he has 4 other children from whom he’s estranged) arranging his care along with his elderly wife. How do you do it? How do you get through the days? Im feeling so many things...mostly torn between my Dads care and attending to my 3 little kiddos, my work from home job, my husband and myself. On top of all of this...I’m feeling bitter that I’m so young (34) having to think about losing a parent already. Any advice or tips on working through this new stage is greatly appreciated! Like others have said, they probably can’t tell what is going on due to privacy laws. But sounds like he’s on contact precautions which means some sort of infection that is easily spread if you come in contact with that patient. So that could include MRSA, VRE, C. Diff, or other infectious organisms. Honestly, you and your children will be safe so long as you do not come in direct contact with the infected person and also as long as the staff sanitizes any equipment that they use on that person that can’t be left in the room. Usually with contact precautions they get their own blood pressure cuffs, typically will get disposable food trays, etc so there is the least possible chance of spreading the infection. Btw I’m a nurse so you can know I have first hand experience with this stuff 😊

I’m not sure if anyone has said but with all the warnings/protective stuff on your dad’s neighbor’s door, it is most likely that that person has some sort of infection that can be spread either by contact, droplet or airborne. I work in a hospital so I’ve dealt with those types of precautions a lot. You should be fine with bringing the kiddos since you’re not going in that room. The protective equipment(gloves, gowns, masks) are for those that will work with that person such as nurses that have to go in that room

Hello. I just want to let you know how much I love your videos.You are such an inspiration and an awesome mom. You were talking about your concern about your dad‘s neighbor at hospice. My dad was in the hospital and was in quarantine because of MERSA. That could be what he has. When I would visit my dad, I would just have to gown up and wear the gloves. If that is what he has,You and your children are completely safe because you are not going into the patient’s room. Your dad is in my family’s prayers. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!

Been thinking about you a lot lately. I’ve just put my Dad in hospice care at his home. My Dad has Parkinson’s and many other midi-gating issues. It’s been a highly emotional journey as I am the only child of my Dads (he has 4 other children from whom he’s estranged) arranging his care along with his elderly wife. How do you do it? How do you get through the days? Im feeling so many things...mostly torn between my Dads care and attending to my 3 little kiddos, my work from home job, my husband and myself. On top of all of this...I’m feeling bitter that I’m so young (34) having to think about losing a parent already. Any advice or tips on working through this new stage is greatly appreciated! Like others have said, they probably can’t tell what is going on due to privacy laws. But sounds like he’s on contact precautions which means some sort of infection that is easily spread if you come in contact with that patient. So that could include MRSA, VRE, C. Diff, or other infectious organisms. Honestly, you and your children will be safe so long as you do not come in direct contact with the infected person and also as long as the staff sanitizes any equipment that they use on that person that can’t be left in the room. Usually with contact precautions they get their own blood pressure cuffs, typically will get disposable food trays, etc so there is the least possible chance of spreading the infection.
Btw I’m a nurse so you can know I have first hand experience with this stuff 😊
