Fixing Pasture Erosion with Hay?

Trial and Error is often the main mode of action on the farm, and that is definitely the case with our latest erosion control efforts. We have seen beneficial things in the pasture in our 12 years on the farm, but this washout/ravine/big growing hole in the pasture is a big problem area. This is our feeble attempt to catch the dirt before it washes away to the neighbors!

I sort of fixed a gully like that years ago by filling it up with the limbs from a bunch of big cedars I was clearing out of the pasture. It took a lot more material to fill that bottomless hole than I ever thought it would, and it took a whole lot of time and effort to cut and stack all those limbs, but the gully isn't getting any bigger now.

That’s great to hear! I have a fairly big pile of manure/compost from our hoop building. I think I’m going to put in a few more bales and the start adding that. It’s all just experimenting now, but better than doing nothing.

Did he take the netwrap off of the bale?

I did not ... I was hoping it would help keep the bales together. Now though I've seen a RUclips video from Greg Judy where he did the same thing. The rest of the bales I will be putting in will have the net wrap off.
