Great video bro. The best thing I like about your videos you keep them short so they don't get boring. Can any one tell me how do you pull up wiring diagram
Soldering causes flux to wick up inside the insulation and makes the situation worse. Whoever installed that butt connector did a lousy job, they should be waterproof when done correctly.
Nice diag and you keep so calm and straight while working. Like SMAs videos too, but for a non native speaker its sometimes hard to understand him. You talk loud and explain well!
Well done sir , green crusties attack yet again . Seems like VW designed these vehicles to give a foot bath. Came across one that had previously had water intrusion from a bad sunroof drain , when I looked from the underside of the car they had installed their own louvred drain system made from some type of dryer vent to prevent it happening again. Sometimes I think the customer is smarter than the engineer.
Damn, as Eric O. would say, "one two barbecue!" You blew right through that one. Well done. That must be a great feeling when you see those green crusties and know that you've found the problem. Thanks!
great video bud .and my coworkers wonder why I own 3 different scan tools snapon otc launch so if one dosent communicate and the other does then you know if it's scan tool or car. it's all about the testing and proving. love the vids it helps to fill the void of understanding vw diagnostics 😊
When i had this issue I was pulling a shit ton of codes. Which confused me and cost in beginning. also ac didn't work was in accessory mode. No crank for me either. It would sometimes after using a jumper box but eventually that would not work once fuel module quit communicating. It was like it kept loosing more accessories and more regulating voltage even though battery was good.. I eventually got a good mechanic who said it was ecm and not sure but everyone swore it had to go to dealer after that so I got rid of it. But I am not sure maybe if I had save my System coding before any issue it would have been possible to diy. Also heard good things about vagcom if you do have coding to put new ecm in. Hopefully you also only need connection not full ecm
Where have you been mister? Finally gave up on my passat 06 for this exact diagnosis. I found alot of helpful videos and ideas of possibilities regarding this on your channel that were helpful. But this was the answer. A slew of 7 different mechanics couldn't fix it without dealership. They all said ecm had to be reprogrammed by dealership. I also threw alot of parts in it fuses, fuel pump module, battery, possibly even my cooling fans and ac line too..ughh so frustrating. The end of the road made it not worth it when the stupid pop hood pull went out with cable connected? I guess it's also slightly electric...well I was driving with hood unlocked to keep from getting stuckdown. and forgot got on highway it flew up and shattered my windshield and looked like shit bent hood. Along with some water getting in carpet from sitting caused mold. So it made it not worth it. Are you married? My next boyfriend needs to be able to fix cars as good us you or else I am not wasting my time. I know more about cars then most these dudes and that's not saying much.
Hi , i wana say thank you for your clip it was very help full. only in my case 2003 Passat 1,8T trip. the wire colour is white with a blue stripe an 1,9v on test , and one time 5,9v at the relay (11 pin relay.) i haven't change the relay yet but I'm sure once i do , it should give me 12v out. thanks again
Fantastic job Tom , your kicking ass on the vehicle's . Thanks bro' enjoying your very informative videos. Looks like the student is becoming the master Lol..
Another awesome video man! I loved the video insert so we could see voltage measurements and what you were doing on the car. What editing software are you running?
Veey few mechanics bother to use the liquid tape. With that in mind when you have funky readings or evidence of previous tinkering inspect the wires for bulging insulation from the green crust from previous probing.
Good job bro....I just have a question..my window didn't work only driver's window and the window motor make unusual sound and thank you...I wish you answer if you have any solution...
Looks like the butt connector was installed with side cutters. Use the correct type of butt connector form the application (heat shrink type) and the proper crimper and you will not have an issue.
Hi I have a same problem I found the Corrosion problem and I fix it and it’s still not doing anything but I did get the lock to work again but nothing else could it be a relay? I am open for suggestion.
Baa humbug Car- rosion strikes again. I have always had a love hate relationship with but connecters. Dissimilar metals crimped together with an opening for moisture. Throw in electricity to the mix and bang! Going to try some the newer crimp-solder-seal ones on a boat wiring repair I am going to do! I have always been a solder and dual layer heat shrink kinda guy..
great video and tips to where to look for. i have a similar issue in ´96 audi a4 2.8 L, my car does not start it cranks but no start, my windows work well even the locks. coul it be the comfort module that is on the trunk? can i swap modules from other car or does it need some kind of programming, so i can look for one at the salvage yard.
my 2003 passat has had it s share of gremlins since getting the CCM a little too wet, climatronic randomly not working, dash gauges going crazy and the trip odometer and clock resetting while driving, etc.. I've had a vw mechanic tell me that it sounded like a bad ground, which the ground for the ccm is still in the floor even though I have relocated the ccm up under the dash. Now I have a no start- no crank situation, i'm thinking that it could still be a ground issue or a wire from the CCM, since watching your video. I'm up for doing a little investigating before cracking open the column to change the ignition switch. the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual don't show a connection to the starter, but i was wondering if I should check some of the same wires you were showing first. is there an online source for wiring diagrams that would be better than the Haynes manual?? any other suggestions would be appreciated
So my 2002 Passat has the same issue, no crank no start but I have all the power. I can still function my windows, stereo, seats, light and all of this but just no crank and start. What is the best way to go about this. Please help. This is my only vehicle. Let me know. Thank you so much. I’m open to absolutely any suggestions
Great Video! I have a 2005 Passat GLS TDI wagon. I drove it into work, everything was fine. When I finished my shift and went to start the car.... It started and ran for a couple seconds then shut off. No dash lights ( Except ABS light ) Upon further inspection I noticed that the ABS module was still running even though the car was OFF. I replaced the ABS module and it is not running with the car off anymore. However, the car still starts then immediately turns off?!?! I am getting codes 01312 ( Powertrain Data Bus Defect ) AND 01336 ( Data Bus For Comfort System Operating With 1 Wire ) Does anyone have any insight on what the problem could be and how to fix it?? Thank You!!!!
I owned about five VW bugs, run all week on a dollars worth of gas, and easy and cheap to fix , but there air cooled, and you freeze your but off in the winter!
I had to do this repair on my own car once. After two years of enjoyable driving, VCDS scan shows: 01336 - Data Bus for Comfort System: Single-Wire Operation I guess the greens strikes yet again. I am having second thought, what if I change the location of the CCM to Under the dash?
I love yours videos ,you do good job! I have concern about back noise on your video, that do not let hear well. Maybe it is something you can correct.Keep up 👍.
good one TOMMY, thanks for the info. question for u i, have 01 vw 1.8 turbo with no comunication but the car start and run for second and die u think the same wire from comfort module kills that comunication to pcm. by the way customer changed fuel pump and worked for aweek and befor that he had no com also he couldnot red any code any help be preciated. cheeeeeeeers
j georges sorry to chime in but I think you have immobiliser issue u can buy gizmo from eBay that bypass's it on that year either into the dlc or back of instrument panel cheers sandy
Is that an update from Snap On that they have the warning on the scan tool, "Do not replace components based on fault codes alone." HAHAHA. I'd like to know how many people still do it anyways. Whoever had their hands on this vehicle before you did it, swapped the comfort module.
What is the windows, lights, and dash all work fine but the starter is receiving no power causing a no crank that would come and go at first but now is completely no crank. Could this also be a CCM issue?
Since communication with the CCM is established I'd check for the starter signal wire integrity first. If that checks out then I'll manually energize the starter if it's working I'll Check for voltage drops then move towards another CCM unit perhaps. Oh and if there's stored fault codes I'd erase those too.
I have the exact same issue. But I can not seem to find that red/blue wire. Is it under the black box? Sorry for my ignorance but your video is awe keep up the great work!
My vw Passat 2002 model have issues with windows. All windows have failed to go down, the central locking system locks on one back left door but can't open it, fuel tank can't open too. What could be the problem?
I'm not sure which exact fuses you don't have power on but, the big 50a should get power from the battery to that relay panel under the dash, so if you have power at the relay panel maybe its internal in that relay panel, which fuses don't have power? and when are you checking them? key on engine off, key on engine running?
My control comfort module suffered water damage and now the vehicle does not want to start I bought a used control comfort module but the person who sold it told me that I have to reprogram the keys again It is true? Or not
Hey hope fully you can h3lp me. I have a 2006 vw jetta tdi I can communicate with the ecm and tcm but not any other module. I have codes saying it's not communicating with the cluster bcm etc. It won't start. Do you know what could be wrong ? I own my own shop and I have some experience but not with these vehicles
Dude you are a life saver turned a 4hr job into a hour thank you so much man
I’m a service engineer for machine tools and that was good troubleshooting! Nice job!!
the vw master does it again! the diagnosis was pretty simple. strange so many people dont check for power at modueles!
Great video bro. The best thing I like about your videos you keep them short so they don't get boring. Can any one tell me how do you pull up wiring diagram
Another well done job, Tom. Solder and shrink tube might have prevented this problem. I seldom use butt connectors for anything.
Nice job Tom, as for using solder in below post it's a no go according to vw training.
Or the engineer told finance that this particular drain is really necessary, but they claimed it's too much money...that's usually the way it goes...
New Level Auto damn fine observation
Damn, as Eric O. would say, "one two barbecue!" You blew right through that one. Well done. That must be a great feeling when you see those green crusties and know that you've found the problem. Thanks!
I see that you have to fine the right person for the job. Not too many people know how to diagnosis electrical and trace problem.
This video help me out same issue on my 00 be Passat 1.8
Thanks so much for the information it helped me to get my car running again
great video bud .and my coworkers wonder why I own 3 different scan tools snapon otc launch so if one dosent communicate and the other does then you know if it's scan tool or car. it's all about the testing and proving. love the vids it helps to fill the void of understanding vw diagnostics 😊
Your good at your job and have learned your trade well !! Great fix.
I feel like I’m right there with you I almost went for the side cutters lol thanks for bringing me along
good video Tommy, u are the go to VW guy for us Scots! liked the 2 camera shoot thanks again, sandy
Excellent job genius! I have the same problem with my 2005 Passat TDI! I'm going to chase it tomorrow1 Thank you!
Good luck. I vw going all electric!! Ahaahhaha thats the funniest shit I've heard
Great video and diagnosis Tom. Keep up the good work.
It seemed you had a little problem with background noise.
Great work, it's nice when it's a simple fix .
What if windows, lights and locks all work, but the starter is not receiving any power causing a no crank? Could that also be a CCM issue?
Good case study PLD, 'The Green Crusties' sounds like an old rock band...Ha!
Sweet, nice diagnostic of the problem
Keep it up the great job 💪💯

You made that look easy, good job. 👍
Another butifull job sir.well done.steve from uk.

Nice ! Tommy you still sound a little sensitive about checking fuses first ! LOL ! Take Care !
thank you so much - my exact problem. Great diagnostic work dude!
Brilliant work again,thanks for sharing👍👍
Nice diagnostic work, enjoyed the video. Subscribed.
man volkwagen has a lot of wiring problems, good video!
Isn't it hilarious they are going all electric!!
Fantastic job Tom , your kicking ass on the vehicle's . Thanks bro' enjoying your very informative videos. Looks like the student is becoming the master Lol..
Good find... I think butt connectors don't seal well when 2 wires are in one end.
Thanks for the video, What source did you use for the pin outs and diagram?
Thank you!!! Exactly the same cable!!!! Problem fixed!!
Another awesome video man! I loved the video insert so we could see voltage measurements and what you were doing on the car. What editing software are you running?
Yeah, I liked that too.
As always, another interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
Veey few mechanics bother to use the liquid tape. With that in mind when you have funky readings or evidence of previous tinkering inspect the wires for bulging insulation from the green crust from previous probing.
Which service manual software are you using to get the wiring diagrams ? Thanks
Well done Mr Wolf! 👍
That is super video with clean images, Thanks man for good job

Great video
great video and tips to where to look for.

nice job ! its good you can get electrical drawings , getting the info you need is sometimes harder than doing the job.

Try to verify all wire's on the doors flex harness
I think i have the same problem. But I unfortunately I don't have splice, where do I go from there?
Can the comfort module have power but have a bad no start function?
I love yours videos ,you do good job! I have concern about back noise on your video, that do not let hear well. Maybe it is something you can correct.Keep up 👍.
good one TOMMY, thanks for the info. question for u i, have 01 vw 1.8 turbo with no comunication but the car start and run for second and die u think the same wire from comfort module kills that comunication to pcm. by the way customer changed fuel pump and worked for aweek and befor that he had no com also he couldnot red any code any help be preciated. cheeeeeeeers

hello Sandy, thanks for the info i will check in to it.cheeeeers
Great job have a no comms on my audi tt mk2 will look for a broken wire.
Awesome video

Snapon's way of telling you do to the research first. And yeah, people have a bad habit of replacing the related parts to the code.
flat rate = jam in the part the idiot box says, then look miffed when it still fails or comes back :)
What is the windows, lights, and dash all work fine but the starter is receiving no power causing a no crank that would come and go at first but now is completely no crank. Could this also be a CCM issue?

good work. sucks getting something already molested tho
Yup thats the worst getting something to repair that someone already fiddled with.
Why there are two wires on one end of splice if is just one wire
Nice :-) really enjoy your videos
I have the exact same issue. But I can not seem to find that red/blue wire. Is it under the black box? Sorry for my ignorance but your video is awe keep up the great work!
It is in that harness that runs along the floor. It might be a different color
Guys my wv passat 2000 moldul it crank but it not start can you guys help me to solve
dose CCM effect on center lock faulty
Snapped just went thru it n bam fixed it #Salute
Your good, why would they bury that splice like that it's asking for trouble
My vw Passat 2002 model have issues with windows. All windows have failed to go down, the central locking system locks on one back left door but can't open it, fuel tank can't open too. What could be the problem?
Maybe a drivers door harness issue?
Good job!
what editing software are you using and how do you get the second camera veiw overlayed on the screen?
Very nice,,,I think you do a great job,,,,keep up the good work
Your awesome. Are you using alldata wiring diagrams?
but what is the conection between confort module and no crank no start!?
The comfort module controls the starter relays
one wire that's so dumb now days good find
thank you brother
Will a cam cencier stop the engine from starting on a 1.9 turbo. 2002 pasat
I'm working on a 2001 vw passat 1.8 .no communication to abs module and 40&50 fuse under kick panel have no power any ideas
Do you have access to wiring diagrams? You need to find the source of the voltage supply. I would need you vin to look up wiring
im sorry don't have wiring diagram but my vin# WVWAC63B31P01076
I'm not sure which exact fuses you don't have power on but, the big 50a should get power from the battery to that relay panel under the dash, so if you have power at the relay panel maybe its internal in that relay panel, which fuses don't have power? and when are you checking them? key on engine off, key on engine running?
also the load reduction relay feeds power to the fuses inside the drivers door, do you have power on fuse 42? its a 25a fuse
i found the problem it was fuse connectors spread too wide
15:33 why did you wiggle the shift stick? :D
Crazy corrosion on comfort modual under driver seat had to clean and re-soider the wires
Amazing thanks !
Hi guys how everything going?
I have 1999 volkswagen passat and I have the same issue after water damage my comfort control module I need help
Seems like you know what the problem is. How can I help?
My control comfort module suffered water damage and now the vehicle does not want to start I bought a used control comfort module but the person who sold it told me that I have to reprogram the keys again
It is true? Or not
@@PositiveLeadDiagnostics please let me know if you can help me
The key fob will need programmed but the car should still start
@@PositiveLeadDiagnostics thank so much for the help I will hunt wire and fuses
How much does this process cost
Why is the start function in the comfort module? that should be in the ECM/ECU/PCM... goofy if you ask me.
gbowne1 said the same thing its dumb as hell
Comfort things to me are like heated seats, mirrors, power accessories, 12v jacks, etc. certainly not the starter.
nice job, T.W. .. :)
I have to jump start mine every time after I shut it off for more then 10 minutes.. batteries good, new alternator. I don’t know what the problem is
Same here. I'm wondering if this is the cause?
Hey hope fully you can h3lp me. I have a 2006 vw jetta tdi I can communicate with the ecm and tcm but not any other module. I have codes saying it's not communicating with the cluster bcm etc. It won't start. Do you know what could be wrong ? I own my own shop and I have some experience but not with these vehicles
Just communication faults stored?
can you tell me where it is on a 2.8 vw, passat
Same place
Nice video :)
what "BUT " put on that BUT connector ?
do sale the job before you fix it on camera.. or how do you go about?
maybe overheated when shrinking and split open or they pinched a hole with the crimp tool :|
super
P.S.
I hope you got at least 4 hrs for that
Swap the other module in, if it works, tell them you will buy the other one.
Damn one wire to ruin your world.
