I play the paladin of our party, me and the wizard have a codeword in game for when we/I want a fireball: Poof. If we say poof we know its time to burn our action getting TF OUT OF DODGE.

I love being a school of evocation wizard because they can bend evocation spells around targets, and fireball is an evocation spell, so you are entirely able to say “i throw a fireball inside this very small enclosed space made out of wood that contains every member of the party and several friendly NPCs” and enjoy the party yelling at you for 3 hours
This is literally me in Pathfinder, but instead of Fireball, it's my alchemist bombs. Because alchemists can explicitly designate a square unaffected by their bombs. >__>
I have now been on the other side of that Fireball. A friend had just leveled up and obtained fireball. One of the first encounters in the next dungeon we went to was several giant insects coming out of an over head opening. I was standing right there at the opening. My initiative was rather low and my friend says,"I cast Fireball." I looked at her in disbelief as I had just leveled up as well and fortunately raised my Con. The other two party members standing next to me also looked at her in shock. We all survived....me with 2 hp left from the blast.

sorry but you can't rules wise you can only cast one leveled spell per turn while this allows you to cast fireball on your turn and absorb element on anothers in the same round it does not allow you to cast them both on your turn
@@clexclex4531 Absorb elements is a reaction and is independent of your “turn.” For instance, you could fireball someone at a range and then absorb elements when you step on a hostile glyph of warding in the same turn. Interesting fact. If you are a red dragonborn. You have immunity to fire damage. Fireball does exclusively fire damage. Fireball also has an absolutely massive radius and can be centered on oneself. Use that knowledge as you wish
I thought Dragonborn’s are 1/2 immune not full immune to damage of their dragon Heritage. Blue- lightning, red-fire, green-poison, and so on. So my bad they are resistant which is like I said above. They are not immune.

I was playing a storm sorcerer, had thunderous wave, all four spell slots available, and the metamagic ability to double the range of any spell.... yeah, I was full on ready and eager to decimate that poor family's fragile house if we had to enter combat, and my companions knew it. DM is simultaneously lucky and unlucky that we avoided all combat purely because I also happened to have enough gold to solo the monetary requirement to do so with ease.
He would just incinerate the initial area of effect and blow up the rest based on the level and area effectiveness. Although......he could use a dimensional object like two bags of holding to really bounce and explode across time and space while he also uses fireball.......could happen.

I got my hands on the broken wand of fireball in BG3. It gives you a free cast of fireball, but centered on yourself because the wand is broken. I was surrounded and getting chewed up by a swarm of bats until i remembered I had and decided to nuke the bastards. I was a bit crispy, but still alive and no longer surrounded.

In this situation, I'd used careful twinned sorcerer fireballs with wild magic.
