gonna have to take the agree to disagree option here, in the Rise franchise the icarus left earth much later than the 1970's departure in the original, and thus while it's certainly a nod to the original movie it's not the same ship lmao

This franchise is full of huge time discrepancies. How is Beneath set 33 years before the original movie despite being set right afterwards. Is it really to hard to accept that Rise, despite one time discrepancy, could easily be a prequel to the original?

@xEvilxPwNeR the terminator franchise is an even worse time-travel clusterfuck than POTA, lol i don't think that's the comparison you want to make if you want to convince me it's a good idea to try to link the two POTA timelines.

I saw the tim burton planet of the apes and while I didn't HATE it, I was so thoroughly confused by the twist ending and I assume I wasn't the only one. I bring that up as I only just RECENTLY found a video that explained just what the heck happened in a way that I could understand.

    • @dudotolivier6363

There are several books canon to the 2001's Tim Burton remake which explained what happen both before the events of the movies (between the moment the protagonnist leave his spaceship and crash on the planet), and after (between the moment the protagonnist leave the planet after the final battle and crash into altered New York).
The movie is good, but the last scene indeed just made not much sense and is confuzing.
Obviousely, they tried to replicate the Liberty's Statue scene from the first ever original movie but with Abraham Lincoln's statue.
But that just don't work sadly.

Giving this a big Proximus style “Yes!” Good job. This is the most reasonable timeline imo. I have always been shocked by those who didn’t figure this out. Most hadn’t seen half of the OG sequels, so that may be part of peoples confusion. This lays it out well. Good job, thank you. Now I can just share this with a friend rather than making something that (again seems pretty straight forward) clear to them.

The original film does explain that humans destroyed themselves with nukes. The humans in the original sequel were disfigured by the radiation and were able to telepathically communicate with each other. They also talked about how a virus killed all dogs and cats which led humans to domesticate apes, which lead them to becoming slaves, and they adapted and grew smarter. But when they traveled back in time, it caused the original events to happen much more rapidly. The way I see it, Rise - War is set in another timeline, a timeline that was created as a result of the Icarus being used to travel backwards through time, instead of forward. I like how they set up their multiverse, but I hate that it's a catch all explanation to every film nowadays. It feels lazy. Just say it's a reboot.

I think there are four separate continuities:-
    1. The original stands on its own. Taylor is well aware they are travelling into the far future on a one way ticket out of the 20th Century.
    2. Beneath, Escape, Conquest & Battle. These all fit together. Brent is on a rescue mission for Taylor's ship. But that's impossible to be the Taylor of the original, as they were on a one way journey and didn't expect to be coming back. So Beneath is a new continuity, with Brent coming after another version of Taylor in a different continuity.
    3. Burton's. Obviously stands alone as a reboot.
    4. Rise, Dawn, War & Kingdom. The story of Caesar for the initial trilogy and now continuing on in the future of that same world...

Your opinion that the directors are wrong in calling *their* movies a reboot isn't really an opinion, it's just an objectively wrong statement. If the creators state a work is a reboot, that's the end of the argument. The details you say connected the movies to the others are just call backs to the other films as youd expect a reboot to do. That's all.

    • @zachpassey4196
      @zachpassey4196 15 дней назад

Imo once the work of the author/director/actor or artist in general is released to the world, the consumer or viewer or general public are able to take interpretations that may be different from what the artist believes is being displayed. When you look at a pretty picture, your feelings may evoke something different than what the person next to you feels or what the artist felt when making the piece. And in regards to writing/dialogue, writers often put in themes subconsciously that they may not even know that they are putting in, e.g some of the fascist themes of the movie Idiocracy has without trying to be a fascist movie (just one example of pretty much every book or movie having this, look some of the interpretations for the 1930s King Kong up as another). Just because the director sees this as a reboot doesn't quite have enough to say that it's completely a reboot, in fact its more than plausible that this timeline could exist. Is that necessarily what I want for the franchise? Not entirely; the only 3 I'd want in continuity from the og series would be the 68 Planet of the Apes, Escape From the Planet of the Apes and MAYBE Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Still, there's enough there to read the work that way as a Time Paradox especially due to this series consistent use of time travel. We shouldn't be worshipping the artist but the art as it stands.

What can be said as funfact with the 1970's TV Live Action series (which is sadly incomplete and doesn't have an end) is that it was mean first to be canon to the initial movies series from 1968's.
But ultimatly, more or less at the last minutes, the producers decide to made it its own apart things in its own proper canon.
And then decide to scrap, remove and cut all the references and others links to the 5 first movies.
But there were unable to scrap them all, so there still references and links in the series.
Which made the final results confuzing and very inconsistent.
With too much and important inconsistencies that the TV Live Action series cannot take place in the first timeline.

It really needs to be pointed out that at the time when the original movie was made the possibility of destruction by nuclear war was in the back of everyone's mind. Nuclear destruction was a pervasive cloud than hovered over everything we did. We were actively in denial while going about our daily business. As a child growing up in the '60s and '70s I had to learn duck and cover drills in school while also thinking of their ultimate futility. I was an avid reader of science fiction, and had a good layman's knowledge of science. The idea that life would be worth living after a nuclear war between the superpowers, followed by any retaliatory strikes that might have been prepared against the contingency of the various countries being essentially destroyed, made any thought of survival ridiculous. And so, the scene in which the Statue of Liberty is revealed naturally and universally evoked the idea that humanity had destroyed itself in a fit of nuclear war. There really was no other thought in anyone's mind back then.

OMFG, have so many people really lost the understanding of "remakes'?! I suppose some clowns must think that Thade's father in the Burton film was Taylor who had somehow reincarnated as an ape, just because of Charlton
    Heston's cameo!
In the current reboot movies, older fans like me recognized various nods to the originals as nostalgic homages, but they were clearly not meant to imply any sort of continuity to them, in any direction of time. What would've been the point of merely re-telling the same story and sequence as in the original films?
Remakes usually try to update a certain aspect in order to make it a fresher rendition of the material it's based upon. "Scarface" (1983) is a remake of the 1932 film. Simple as that. Not surprisingly, many people didn't even know that the Pacino version was a remake, since there's half a century between them.
I hope this over-speculation of the POTA franchise is all just being done for laughs, but too many people in the comments seem to be taking this too seriously!
Why stop here, then?! Why not just try to connect the 1936 "King Kong" with the remake from the '70's and the Peter Jackson version?! And then connect the cartoon version of "the Lion King" with the CGI remake. Oh, better still, have fun trying to connect the original Batman series to the Burton movies, the Nolan movies, and every other Batman-related movie ever made.

I don’t think the creators even know yet. They could either remake the OV planet of the apes after awhile as part of the reboot series or get it to the point to connect it to the original movie.

It actually does end in Nuclear war in Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes because the humans are shown that they have military stuff so they do fight back but loose but it results in all humans left dying in the war

I just saw Kingdom. I really liked it and am curious to see how this new trilogy will shape out......
    Possible Spoilers
From what others have said, Kingdom is 300 years after War, and possibly close to 1- 2 thousand years before the events of the original. We see the 'feral' humans are similar to the original planet of the apes but there doesn't appear to be abundance of them, but it is implied at the end of kingdom that there are a surprising number of non feral humans still around and still capable of using human technology. I feel this trilogy, like the others, will explore the conflict that will inevitably arise with the Apes continuing to advance and the remaining intelligent humans being unable to accept that there is no way to 'reclaim' their world. The first trilogy did a good job of adding just enough nuance and twists to what would initially may come across as typical stories to make them interesting and I get the feeling after Kingdom that this trend will likely continue.

Go watch them, as they include some rather important details. I grew up on those 5 movies in the 70s, and have watched them literally hundreds of times each. I want to finish watching this video before I make what I'm sure will be a rather long winded comment (I know how I get when I'm discussing something I really enjoy, and have studied since I was a small child).
You ARE correct in something, though.... Rise - War (and likely Kingdom (can't comment as I haven't seen where it fits) could very well be the "original" timeline, with the original films being a second/third timeline created by certain events. Like I said, you should watch the original 4 sequels, and do so "intently", as there are a lot of subtle details that can be linked together.
I know that the budget for each successive (and successful) movie was cut, and how that affected the visual quality of the movies.... but try to put that aside, and watch the stories as they unfold. Once you've done that, hit me up and I'll be happy to tell you all of the links I made with them.

Here’s the issue with saying humanity didn’t take themselves out with nukes, what the hell are the humans who mutated thanks to radiation. Like Battle shows that humans were on that path when they spent enough time near radiation, and it’s clear that this timeline was greatly accelerated. So it’s safe to assume if radiation caused this evolution in one timeline, and we have no clue what caused it in another, then the simplest answer would be saying radiation caused it as well.
Like sure the guy who gives the info is a known liar, but the series never gives you a reason to doubt that idea. In fact it actually gives more evidence to support him than to disprove him.

I know you said you gonna be ignoring TV shows, comic books and stuff - But this is literally being delusional. "Death of the Planet of the Apes" is a novel that takes place during Beneath the Planet of the Apes from Zira and Cornelius perspective. They learn from Dr Zaius about the ape rebellion, specifically about Aldo's "No". Which they also mention in the court scene of "Escape From TPOFA".
Obviously it's worth noting that the novel was released in 2018, but it's still canon.

  • @user-nv9ep6rn8s

To be fair the new series of movies very well could end up having nukes. In kingdom we learn there is still human technology locked away and that there are still groups of intelligent humans. Humans launching a nuke is still a very possible event in future movies.

  • @jedipadwan20
    @jedipadwan20 17 дней назад

What if the reboot is the actual original timeline where Caesar was the original one who said no but years after his death. The new leader of the apes a ape called Aldo force the apes to change history to make him the one who really said no and that Cornelius and Zira if I spell Caesar mom name right only told the false history of what Aldo said was true and the virus was the one that supposedly killed cat and dogs was actually the viris that nearly killed the humans. You see they as in Disney, can say that this reboot is the real original timeline that is destroyed by one human. With the new time where another Caesar leads somehow get what the original Caesar wanted apes and humans to coexist. And they can then show a world where apes and humans live side by side in peace and harmony. Just saying a wild crazy theory and idea for Disney lol.

You do realize that just because something takes place earlier in time than another movie it doesn't make it a prequel. The films from 2011 to 2024 are a rebooted new universe from the originals. The 2011 film is not a prequel and the 2024 film is not a reboot.
