  • Welcome back to another episode of Before the Box Score! What in the heck is going on, Eliah Drinkwitz?! Nate and Nathan get together and have a little vent session. Are there hopes for this team to turn things around? Is Eli Drinkwitz basically just James Franklin? The guys answer these questions and more as the Tigers' chances at a College Football Playoff bid are dwindling.

This games was all about the talent level and coaching. A&M has the better roster, and the better coach

No not really. They definitely have the better quarterback tho. And this team all but gave up after some bad calls in that 1st quarter. I still don't know what that OBVIOUS non call was about. That was pass interference all day every day. Almost every BORDERLINE call went against us, all the way up until the game was out of hand...And by that time it seemed that the players themselves knew that the fix was in and gave up. That's what I saw. And Brady Cook is an absolutely horrible passer. But even still, we could have overcome even that fact.

Can we start talking about Eli's lack of a "killer instinct?" He seems perfectly fine winning close games. I mean, hate on Huepel all you want. At least he tries to have his team win convincingly every game. The margin of eaking out close games game in and out out and coming out with a winning record, is so small. I mean, you could play really well for 55 minutes of a game, but one play by the other team can swing the entire momentum of the game. Like we have a talented roster, why does every win have against P4 teams have to be a "phew we won that by the skin of our teeth" type of game.

Marvin Burks missed two open the field tackles that resulted in TD’s, definitely missing JC Carlies back there.

Cook will never throw to the middle of the field so it’s very easy for the defense because they only need to defend the sides of the field.

What I think you guys are missing here on the refs (although I agree we still lose) is that those first 2 ref calls (the bad PI and then the amazingly astute TD callback) just sunk the morale of the team...and Burden was leading the charge on that one. Someone needs to get in that kids ear and tell him to grow up a little and stop throwing hissy fits when things don't work out. When your best player can't handle adversity, no one else will be able to either.

They had the rest of the game to hop back on. They let those penalties affect them all game. That's where you need your leaders to step up and no one decided they wanted to get frustrated and fight back including the captains. No one wanted to be there after Luther's TD got called back (and yeah Membou was to far upfield, that was the right call). Drink and this team has some real soul searching to do.

As well as different OCs that prioritize different things on how their offenses work. Let us not forget, that he also lost his job at Notre Dame.
