Calypso was throwing out trigger words for Odysseus left and right. It’s an interesting way to portray how all he can do is be reminded of his dead friends and family. - “Ody” ~ Eurylocus - “Open arms” ~ Polites - “I’ll stay inside your heart” ~ Anticlea, aka Ody’s mom (from The Underworld at 3:10 “I took too long (I’ll always love you), and ventured too far (I’ll stay in your heart)”)
That ending section of Love In Paradise having the danger motif because Ody _is a danger to himself in that moment_ is so good. That and it being such an accurate portrayal of Ody's ptsd and how even a simple phrase can trigger traumatic memories in someone, is why I always go back to it. Writer/psychology nerd brain loves it so much.
Apollo - Boyband Singer Hephaestus - Home Depot ( ruclips.net/video/goUVi-8jOF8/видео.htmlsi=Vfdj7WtBk7fNLQFK ) Aphrodite - Celebrity Gal Ares - Somehow just jumps pantheons to Vikings with that bowed lyre? Hera - Disco *Queen* / Wine Aunt Zeus - Idk fuckin’ I dont know just listen to him Also I like how out of all the gods, rather than develop a variation of Athena’s theme, Ares just straight up hijacked it with his own instruments. He’s a god of war like Athena, so his melody is basically identical to hers, but compared to everyone else’s introductions he just brute forces his way into the song. And damn, Athena’s melody in half speed showing her patience and thoughtfulness, then *counter-hijacking Ares’s theme*. Then, rather than dominating his instruments like he did with hers, she uses her piano to direct his bowed lyre and drums to her command, subjugating him with finesse rather than brutality. Hera is also the only one who doesn’t present an argument for Athena to use off the bat. Rather, encouraging her to come up with one herself. This also means she’s the only one who’s neutral/supportive out of all the other gods. “Give me one good reason” just one’s enough, but she does need one and isn’t just gonna help Athena out as a mere favor. She just goes “yeah sit down have a drink and we can chat about why you think Ody should be freed. No rush, you have the whole day while I go about chillin’, disco’in’, and drinkin’.” Really feels like a kid trying to convince her aunt, and the aunt being supportive but not trying not to coddle her niece. Wine aunt Hera FTW.
Ares instrument is the Chinese Erhu. I was so excited when I found out what it was since Chinese instruments have such amazing unique sounds and need to be used more.
It's really fascinating how Odysseus and Athena got parallel character arcs in the exact opposite direction. Athena starts with "put your emotions aside" and "I'm not looking for a friend", and Ody with "what good will killing do". And now we get Athena "unable to sleep at night", calling Ody an old friend, while Ody embraced "ruthlessness is mercy".
The motif you caught at 49:22 is Odyessus' (cunning) motif and it's introduced right at the begininng and shows up whenever Ody is in a tight spot where he has to think or he's planning. There's a video from Bog Dog on youtube that shows all where it shows up in the first 6 sagas.
Oh man. Suno. 1:14:35. The Hera convincing argument? It's not so much her domain of influence that makes that an effective argument. That's the one that works because Hera has the immense misfortune to be married to Zeus, and she is always very, very upset about his many affairs.
Yes, you need to make sure you are wearing both headphones at 55:32. The trick Spotify does still comes through even on RUclips. It is awesome to hear Open Arms in my left ear, the crew singing Mutiny in my right ear, Odysseus’s mom singing her part from Underworld from both but it feels like it is from overhead, and then Odysseus in the middle of that triangle.
When Antinous calls Penelope a tramp, I know it means that he doesn’t care about her, or her son, he’s just in it for the power! And is on his last nerve!
1:06:01 I’m glad u caught that. It’s i think (greek mythology nerds correct me if I’m wrong,i saw this in Jay’s tiktok comment section) it’s because Hermes gave Apollo the lyre?
You'd be correct! Hermes invented the lyre, stole Apollo's cows (both literally happening on the day hermes was BORN because he could already walk and talk), and then when Apollo (whom no one believed when he kept accusing Hermes bc. Literal newborn) confronted him, Hermes gave him the lyre as a way of apology. And also gave him the cows back (except 1 that he killed)
Pretty sure Little Wolf is officially my favorite from this saga. I know I was very vocal about being excited for God Games and it's very good, but Little Wolf has the /perfect/ vibe.
There’s actually only *two* sagas left after this, each being five songs (unless that’s changed very recently!) No telling when we’ll get those of course, but the sooner the better cause I’m *super hype* for the Vengeance Saga.

@@ugxsan he might also have been counting the Livestream he was in the process of kicking off at the time, since he was at the very beginning of it. Not the most likely scenario but not impossible.
Unsure if you know this so I’m just gonna throw it out there. Hera is Zeus’ wife who he regularly cheats on because he’s Zeus. Hera absolutely hates it (obviously). So not only would Ody being loyal be the thing she respects but Athena was also kind of throwing shade at Zeus with that line.
Strings ensemble and a viola is Penelope's instrument, so the inclusion of it at the end of thunderbringer is to show how Odysseus is thinking of her and it being with Telemachus is how he's going to fight for her
When Athena is down in god games you can hear warrior of the mind AND legendary, I took that to meen that she was thinking of Odysseus AND Telemachus 😭
Also, Suno, you could watch the Hold Them Down parody, although the official hasen't yet been released it is very diferent lyricaly and probably in the instrumentals from the final version
Honestly, when it comes to instruments and their associated characters, I managed to identify quite a few. Telemachus with hammered dulcimer, Antinous with the suitors (essentially another Eurylochus), Calypso with steel pans, Apollo with lyre (obviously), Hephaestus with tubular bells, Aphrodite with saxophone, and Ares with hurdy gurdy. I couldn't identify Hera's, and I may be wrong with my assessments. Please correct me if so.
You got almost all correct, except for telemachus who has an indie piano as main instrument, and I think the instrument of ares is also a different one.
I think you got all of them spot on...I saw someone else here mentioned the synth (modified piano) being Telemachus's instrument. Hera didn't really seem to have one...it was more just the disco genre change for her section! Good ear though!! I enjoy seeing you all identify this better than me!
