8 Jun 2022 i) Got to hand it to Dern Peck Wern at 9.51, she rushing headlong into the path of the oncoming taxi in a bid to commit suicide. Firstly it would have been a legitimate stunt requiring a professional body double, since the risks would have been too great for a middle-aged (hardly sports-fit) woman. Then of course pushing up the production wage cost as well. So the trick was to have a stationary vehicle in the last frame with Wern simulating a gravely near miss, plunging her upper torso forwards. Pure optical illusion. A most basic trick of eye universally applied by magicians/illusionists on stage. Curiously enough, how come the taxi driver did not scream his head off with invectives at Wern? Instead both she and Lei Heong Kum gladly got into the vehicle promptly on their way. Such an obvious oversight on the director's part. ii) Ma Jhoon Yau's mother is a real piece of excrement of a mother-in-law, ain't she? But that's only because her acting skill is top-notch here. I don't recall her being an A-lister in all those b/w movies in the 1960s (available on YT, gratefully). I may be mistaken though. Thanks.
