Same problem on Toyota Previa 2004 - SOLVED. Symptoms - abs kicks in when stopping/very low speed, but no abs light errors on dashboard, nothing on scanner or paperclip test. Solution - removed front left (lucky guess) abs sensor, cleaned abs ring through the hole, using paint thinner on cotton ear sticks and cloth, hoovered out dirt. Then noticed that the seating area for the sensor (on the hub) was not flat, lots of baked in breaking dust and rust which could not be removed with sandpaper or file, so had to scratch it off with chisel/flat head screwdriver. Now sensor sits flat and tight against the hub and abs no longer kicks in at low breaking speeds.
Hi Peter, good video, thanks a lot. I have one question. I have a yaris with the same problem. I already cleaned like you did the abs rings of the front. The problem is still there. But at the rear I do not have disc breaks, how can I clean here the abs rings and sensors?
Had a similar problem. Had to replace the ABS ring on the drive shaft. The teeth had corroded badly. The part is very cheap, but the drive shaft had to come out to replace it.
Hello Peter, I have just watched your video and found it interesting as I have a 2008 Toyota Avensis 2.0 D4D and I have an with a rear brake and wonder if its an ABS issue. There is a drag on the rhs rear wheel and I have changed the brake caliper and the flexible hose, the caliper guide pins were greased and move freely. I have checked that the brake pads are not stuck in the carrier and everything is free moving. The brake fluid was flushed out of the system last year so its relatively. I wonder if there is an issue with the wheel sensor or abs that is causing a slight pressure to the caliper as the disc gets very warm. I would appreciate if you could suggest any other tests I could do. Thank You
Good general information about doing some maintenance to your ABS system, but far too long video. The same information could have been offered in a 7...8 minutes long video by editing more the raw version. Like you don't really explain, how to remove a wheel etc... Also, you spent 30 min video time (and maybe 1-2h actual time) to solve the initial problem, and didn't get it solved! The whole purpose of these kinds of repairing videos is to solve a problem! At the end of the video, you give some guesses about what might be the problem. Why didn't you continue the video until the point where the problem finally had been solved? Now the audience doesn't actually know, what caused the problem and how was it fixed. I guess you eventually fixed it, right?
Hi Peter, is it possible when replacing the wheel bearing to install it the wrong way around and hence the abs sensor to send wrong data ? Cleaned the abs sensor 3 or 4 times and still does it. I`ve been told that it might be because of poor instalation and it is really annoying. Thanks
Would this issue make your car fail an inspection, as long as the ABS warning light is not on? I'm curious because I have the same issue myself (no warning light), and my car is due for inspection now...
It seems kinda common issue for this model .. however my 2004 Avensis had the exact same issue fixed completely by replacing the ABS sensor ...in my case it was the right side one cost me new around 40€
i have similar problem to yours. just mine is back right side wheel. abs fails. I checked with computer diagnostic tool. that wheel does not brake as the rest.. i changed the bearing/sensor/sensor cable/ . yet still the same.. I think I need to find spare brake mechanism and replace the whole thing.. mine is 2004, 1.8 manual petrol
ill do that and I will let you know how it goes.. althought once they tried to charge me for backlight bulb replacement £20.. but I did it myself for a (£3). we'll see..

Hi, you must open also rear brakes. Sensor is inside in rear area.
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor Thanks for you reply. Yes, I saw the sensor, but how can I open the connector?
