Oh wow Rachel!!! I was looking up the Gulf butterflies that you told me about and came across this video. It wasn't even at the beginning so I didn't see you. But I knew your voice. Amazing video. I found eggs on my passion vine a couple days ago, then today I spotted a caterpillar! I was so so excited to find him/her. I'd love to raise some so the kids can watch the process but I don't have a container. I have lots of the sweet potato vine. And yes you can eat the potatoes but they aren't the tastes crop. He just wants to hang around.
I love you hair this length. It's adorable on you!!! I'm so glad I came across this video😊

You are going to have SO MANY Gulf fritillary butterfly adventure now!!!!! Yay!!! - That’s cool about the sweet potato vine! And I still have some growing in the front yard, so it’s nice to know that we have several meals worth of sweet potatoes in the front yard if we ever need them! LOL! - Thanks for the compliments about my hair! It’s in a transitional stage right now. I had it very short and when I would look in the mirror, I would be like, “Oh! That’s cute! But also, where’s my hair?” So I’m trying to find balance with my hair, as I am trying to find balance with all facets of my life, as we all are!

A word of caution to everybody that buys butterfly plants from big box, stores, like Lowe’s or Home Depot, especially milkweed… The growers supply these big box stores often spray, their plants with a systemic insecticide. Systemic mean it goes throughout the whole plant along comes a beautiful butterflies and they take the nectar or to the leaves of the plant and it will kill the butterflies, caterpillars, and other insects. If you can’t find it anywhere else, and I kind of locked into getting milkweed at one of the big box stores, please make sure you set it aside, water it well and quarantine it for 2 to 3 weeks.
Love the rat snake. He’s harmless and very good to control small rodents.
Your little Garden is just beautiful

Great info. I have both of these vines growing wild in my yard. This is an old homestead so there are many native plants here. I just love that about our land. The area they are growing in is a jungle right now but I let it go in the spring through fall for the vines for pollinators. I love the fritillaries "butterflies" actually they are in the butterfly 🦋 family
We also have a lot of fungus and mosses including reindeer moss. I've found over 60 different mushrooms. Some are absolutely beautiful. I love our land. So much diversity. I could walk through it all day if it wasn't so hot 🥵

LOL! Sorry, Lisa! I need to warn people before I show snakes and spiders. I love having them around, but they do give me a start too. Once I know where they are and that they aren’t venomous, I’m able to enjoy them.

@@gulfcoastbutterflygardening I have the short salvia you have. I also have a taller one from proven winners rocking’ the blues. I’ve also noticed that dill is a good thing for the monarchs to lay on. So I have several of those. I love your garden and am inspired to create something similar. I’m in Louth Louisiana zone 9A.

Isn’t spring the best?!? - I bet the caterpillars that you are finding on your dill are Eastern black swallowtail caterpillars. They look similar to monarch caterpillars, but the monarchs have more stripes and swallowtails have more dots. That’s awesome if you have some now! I’m still waiting for some in my garden. I keep looking for them every day!
