Scent and memory!I totally understand:)
I have several bottles of both current and vintage formulations, and I have to say the differences aren't drastic to my nose. The vintage has more contrast between the freshness and the deep amber and sandalwood; the sandalwood is also more complex, as Dior used top-quality Mysore sandalwood before it became over-harvested. But the modern version is still beautiful, and still recognizably Dune to me. I wear it happily.
i have it /the vintage one/ I love it... smells like i am in Tunisia or Egypt.. so lovely.
i would be estatic to get a sample of dune original version. i had one, given as a gift to me, from 1997. i love your review, very considered. i love the way you keep showing the bottle close up to the camera, made me smile, so sweet!

You do such a great job at describing the scents. These oldies but goodies bring back so many memories. I loved those heavy, rich scents. Bakir by Germaine Monteil...; and I absolutely loved Maroc by Ultima II. Just don't make them like they used to.

Thank you for your comments. I wanted to love Dune so I ordered it from Dior website. Unfortunately it triggers my migraines. I sent it back and luckily got a refund.
Great review! I wore it in high school in 1996 it was GLORIOUS! Now the reformulation smells like lysol... what a crying shame!

It's so sad! The original formulation was so warm, and gorgeous.
The new one? It's all sharpness, glittery aldehydes, barely a shrug and then it's gone. No depth at all! :-( Boo on that.
I remember when my sister bought this in 1992. Absolutely beautiful. The reformulation is not even a touch on the original. This version smells like a weaker version of Dior Addict

The original formulation works excellently on my skin! It's warm, deep, it lasts. Such a stunner!
The reformulation... :-/ No. It's like reheated macaroni and cheese. I understand it's supposed to be the same, but the magic is GONE! :-D

All I can think of is they wanted to save money, and used lesser quality (or just fewer) ingredients.
It doesn't make sense to me, though. Why mess with it? The original formulation was gorgeous!
Dior wanted a full control of the process and former formulas included materials from other firms like IFF, Firmenich. Demachy had to reformulate all scents.

Hi the fragrance house has been through many changes over the years. You can try and get a sample of the vintage scent at the website called- The Perfumed Court.✨
When fragrances (the rights to make them and use the name) are sold to different companies, the new owners will often cut costs by using cheaper ingredients, making a weaker formula, and also IFRA regulations have decreed that many normal perfume ingredients should be outlawed because someone, somewhere, might be allergic to something...😒and for some reason we all have to listen to IFRA??
I bought the reformulation version.. Yeah so true.. the base not really doesn’t impress me at ALL! Love the vintage version of Dune 😞

I always learn something from you, I have never smelled this or heard of it but I love beachy scents, esp., in the summer, like the BB one and the EL one! I love how you say how it would smell on a man, great review! XOXO

Hi I have seen for sale a dior dune minature and on the box it says Christian Dior and the same on the bottle is it worth picking up I think it’s the pre reformulation because of the Christian Dior on the box

Oh how I love your fragrance reviews, you do the best on YT :) always makes me smile! you are looking good Peg and your nails look so nice, I was wearing acrylic powder on my own nails for a while (no tips) and I got a horrible fungus recently...so now I have nothing on my nails (can't even wear polish for a couple weeks) and everyone including me has to embrace the green and let them heal...LOL. it reminds me of Kenzo Jungle Elephant but not as strong. It annoys me after a while wearing it.
