The C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\ folder is access denied from a fresh install of Windows 11 22H2 as an Administrator. This is can be recreated with every new install of Windows 11. No amount of changing the Security settings for users will grant access even with Windows Defender turned off and Windows Security Active Protection turned off. Clearing the log from Event Viewer does not work either. PS: The only way I could access the Scan folder and delete the History file was to boot into Safe Mode.
when defender is active, i could not come to subfolders of C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\ . i installed malwarebytes program. when it started -This stopps Defender. Than I get access to all subfolders of C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\. I deleted file history.log from folder services. scanned once with malwarebytes. deleted what was in quarantene of malwarebytes. Uninstalled Malwarebytes. restart-> pc clean. Defender runs again.
This helped me a lot, kept getting warning about threats that I've already removed that I know are non existent on my computer and is showing up as a false warning.😃
Hi. Great video. On my new W11 I have the yellow triangle in my taskbar and over my "App & Browser Control" like you in your video. Will the above method remove this annoying yellow triangle and return it to green? Thank you.
Thank you Brian!!! I'll pass this around to my family. I am a great fan and appreciate your guidance, suggestions and ideas how to handle situations!!! BTW, I cleared out over 5K Log Files
Someone mentioned to delete those files only from Safe Boot mode, I forgot that exact word which I used before. After that all the process are same from video. 🎉

Windows 11 23H2 version will appear in “Protection History” even if you delete it in safe mode. When I checked the folder again in safe mode, it appeared in "Protection History" even though the history had been clearly deleted. Is there a way to prevent Windows 11 23H2 from showing in “Protection History”? 😭😭
I only see you comment on what a good guide this is but not with anyone having problem. Like on the event viewer it says you can save the contents on this log before clearing either save and clear or just clear I am not a tech and have no idea what to do ?
Well Brian I have been running ESET for the last three years so I am guessing that I don't need to do the fix. What I assume is that these logs and detection stuff is stored as files and it just a matter of releasing that space taken up by these files. Oh and by the by my log files had only three entries so ESET had been really active eh?
Hej Brian thanks for this videoi know how to do it but very good video walkthrough how to do it so more users will know how to do it because I personally think the protection history is annoying to see. I run Windows 11 Pro 22H2 and it seems that very soon Moment 3 update will roll out to Windows 11 so it will be interesting to see and use the new functions in windows 11 when that update arrives take care Brian and I wish you a very nice day and week.
